Clear Braces: An Overview
by Judy Wellsworth
People face many difficulties with their metal braces as they start to cause many problems after some time of their fixture. People also have problems with their metal braces because they think it looks very awkward whenever they open their mouth to smile or speak. People also avoid the colored braces because of the fact that it looks strange to see colors when someone opens their mouth. This trend is mostly found in the older people. Also some people don't want to wear metal braces because they can not be taken off at anytime until the prescribed time advised by the doctor arrives and finally the braces are removed. All these reasons are justified for the people's dislike of the metal braces. This dislike of the metal braces leads to the people's likeness of clear braces. Clear braces are made up of transparent plastic so that the braces can not be noticed. Hence the use of clear braces gives the opportunity to the individuals to solve the problem of their teeth with the advantages of the clear braces.
Usage of the Clear Braces:
The application and usage of the clear braces is slightly different than the traditional metal braces. The first thing that you need to know is that the clear braces are made up with the mixture of plastic and metal but metal is not actually visible when they are applied. The clear braces are not fixed in the same way as the other kinds of braces are. In order to wear the clear braces you will first have to wear your metal braces for two weeks, after that you can get your clear braces fixed. Unlike the traditional metal braces, the clear braces can be taken off occasionally. Whenever you have to clean your teeth or braces, you can put the clear braces off for a while, without going back to your dentist. The average time period required for clear braces to take effect is approximately one year.
Benefits of Clear Braces:
Clear braces have many advantages to offer to the individuals who do not want to use the traditional metal braces. The most important advantage is that the clear braces can be put off for a while when ever you don't feel comfortable or you have to clean the braces or your teeth. This is the biggest reason why people are inclined towards buying the clear braces. With this advantage you can end up saving some money as you won't have to visit your dentist very often. Therefore you will save dentist's fee that you otherwise will have to pay. Also the cleaning of the braces and your teeth will become a lot easier.
Hence clear braces returns your smile with many advantages that you can not avail using other kinds of braces.

Cardiac Catheterization
Indications:
o This should be performed for coronary angiography studies before AVR in patients at risk for CAD, including men older than 35 years, premenopausal women older than 35 years with coronary risk factors, and postmenopausal women.
o It can be used to assess the severity of regurgitation when noninvasive test results are inconclusive or discordant with clinical findings regarding the severity of regurgitation or the need for surgery.
o Use cardiac catheterization to assess LV function when noninvasive test results are inconclusive or discordant with clinical findings LV dysfuncation and the need for surgery in patients with severe AR.
Qualitative assessment (Aortic Angiogram):
o In mild AR (1+), a small amount of contrast enters the left ventricle during diastole and clears with each systole.
o In moderate AR (2+), more contrast enters with each diastole, and faint opacification of the entire LV chamber occurs.
o In moderately severe AR (3+), the LV chamber is well opacified and equal in density when compared with the ascending aorta.
o In severe AR (4+), complete dense opacification of the LV chamber occurs on the first beat and the left ventricle is more densely opacified than the ascending aorta.
Simultaneous aortic and LV pressure tracing (signs of severe AR):
o Wide pulse pressure may be present.
o LV diastolic pressure increases rapidly.
o Near quilibration of aortic and LV pressure occurs at diastole.
Imaging Studies:
M-mode features of AR include the following.
o Diastolic flutter of the mitral valve (can be both anterior and posterior mitral valve leaftlet)
o Diastolic flutter of the aortic valve
o Premature closure of the mitral valve (severe AR)
o Premature opening of the aortic valve (severe elevated LV end-diastolic pressure)
o Diastolic LV septal fluttering
o LV volume overload (hyperkinesis of the LV walls LV dilation)
o LVESD (>55mm indicates poorer surgical outcome)
On 2 Dimensional echocardiography, look for the following features:
o Flail aortic aneurysm.
o Dilatation of the sinuses of Valsalva (particularly in patients with Marfan syndrome or bicuspid aortic valve problem).
o Ascending aortic aneurysm.
o Incomplete closure of the aortic valve cusps on the parasternal short axis view of the aortic valve.
o High frequency diastolic fluttering of the anterior leafleft of the mitral valve during diastole.
o Reverse doming of the anterior mitral valve leafleft.
o LV volume overload pattern.
o Measurements of LV end diastolic and end-systolic dimensions and volumes. Shortening fractions and EFs - Criticall in determining the optimal time for valve replacement.
o Measurement of aortic regurgitant fraction, reguirgitant orifice size, and regurgitant volumes – Now available with Doppler echocardiography.

Dehydrated Onion: One Of The Most Widely Used Dehydrated Foods
by Judy Wellsworth
When you first hear the term dehydrated onion, you would probably wonder, who in the world would want to use a dehydrated onion? For one thing, whenever an onion is required in a recipe, what you always do is take a fresh onion and chop away. This is also what your mother did, as well as your grandmother. There is nobody you know who uses dehydrated onions in cooking. Furthermore, you do not even know what a dehydrated onion looks like...or so you think.
Practically everybody has eaten something with dehydrated onion in it - maybe as often as everyday, for some people. Unless you are a vegetarian, I'm sure you have probably eaten a McDonald's hamburger at least once in your life. Tiny pieces of dehydrated onions are in this burger mix that America consumes by the millions each year.
Of course, chances are you have never seen what these dehydrated onions look like outside of the burger. And even if you do know what they look like, you probably would not want to eat it or use it in your cooking. They are not very aesthetically appealing, although they are a quite useful ingredient in many fast foods and instant foods.
Speaking of instant foods, dehydrated onions are very much in demand by manufacturers of instant soups. Dehydrated soups are very popular among young people today primarily because of their convenience.
Because of the large volume of instant soups that are produced each year, a large supply of dehydrated onions is also needed. Due to this demand, dehydrated onions are regularly imported from other countries like China and India.
Because of the compact nature of dehydrated onions, they are much more easily imported than the fresh varieties. Shipping of these vegetables is also more convenient and much cheaper.
Even if dehydrated onions are not generally used in home cooking, they are essential in other food industries, and they are sure to be around for a very long time.

The long and short of a story - Rhinoplasty
How would you go about deciding your surgeon? It is an important decision of your life; you definitely don’t want anything to go wrong. You will want to make sure that you choose the best in your budget. Rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to reshape the nose. It can help you reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the tip or the bridge, or even change the angle between your nose and the upper lip. Changes in the structure of the nose can make a big difference to your face. If I had to go through this surgery I think pictures of patients who have gone through the surgery would be my ideal stop. How a person looked before and the difference after the surgery would say the real story. Though it is not always about correcting the defect for perfection, there are other reasons like birth defects which could cause breathing problems for someone to opt for this reconstructive surgery.
Moving away from the technicalities of rhinoplasty or any cosmetic surgery for that matter, I personally feel there is this certain charm to a person with a slight imperfection. Sometimes correcting that takes away that special feeling. Of course eventually it’s all about your confidence. On superstitious grounds people of old school of thought feel that if they change the imperfection they are letting go of all their good luck. Today it’s all about how you feel.
Rhinoplasty has become a common reward for passing college entrance exams. Some even undergo surgery two or three times - at a fraction of the cost of Western procedures - to perfect their profiles framed by the ever-present hijabs, or scarfs, they must wear. I had to just mention this in this article which is by the Chicago Tribune. We really are not aware of the Iranian culture. This just goes to show how far our technology has come and at the pace its moving. There are some of us who would think and think and rethink before taking the plunge and opting for a plastic surgery if its just for a ‘look good’ or ‘feel good’ factor. But of course the above contradicts our thought and tells us that people sometimes even get it done to overcome boredom. What is happening?
The Plastic Surgery Institute of California has qualified plastic surgeons, of course, but what makes them different is they take you through the procedure with sensitivity. They will explain the technique and will also tell you about the anesthesia they will use. They hold your hand throughout the procedure right from the preparations to the post op care.
With our fast moving pace it is not surprising to find teenagers today also opting for these reconstructive surgeries. Their idols are models, and they think to ‘look good’ one must look like a model. It is important that parents have regular discussions with their children and get to know their mind frames. Though today we also have very good weekly magazines which cater to a specific age group and are very informative. These magazines are good reads for teens who need to read for themselves the pros and cons of these surgeries. They need to understand that looking good is not only about perfection or a 10/10 body.

What is Psoriasis and How to treat it
by Ryan Hooper
What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a disease which affects the skin and joints and commonly causes red scaly patches to appear on the skin. The scaly patches are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production. Psoriasis can cause pain, itching, burning and emotional distress. It affects both sexes equally and can occur at any age, although it most commonly appears for the first time between the ages of 15 and 25.
Today more than seven million Americans suffer with psoriasis. Recent studies show that there may be an ethnic link. It seems that psoriasis is most common in Caucasians, slightly less in African Americans and far less common among Asians and Native Americans.
Psoriasis is not contagious. You can't catch psoriasis from another person or give it to someone by touching them, and you can't spread it to other parts of your body.
What Causes Psoriasis?
The cause of psoriasis is not fully understood. Recent research indicates that it is likely a disorder of the immune system in which the excessive reproduction of skin cells is secondary to factors produced by the immune system.
Scientists now think that, in psoriasis, an abnormal immune system causes activity by T cells in the skin. Normally, T cells help protect the body against infection and disease, but in the case of psoriasis, they mistakenly attack skin cells instead. The body then produces other immune system responses, leading to swelling and rapid production of skin cells.
In areas affected by psoriasis, there seems to be a rapid increase in the speed at which skin cells are replaced. Skin usually takes about 28 days to mature and shed, but in areas affected by psoriasis it only takes three or four days. The dead cells build up on the skin, forming thick, flaky patches called plaques.
It is not known what initiates the activation of the T cells.
Several factors are thought to aggravate psoriasis: Infections, Diseases that weaken the immune system, Stress, Certain medications, Smoking, Certain chemicals, Severe sunburn...
Psoriasis treatment
Today, there are many different treatments available to help control psoriasis. No single treatment works for everyone. The goal is to find a treatment that works the best with the fewest side effects. One of the first principles of psoriasis treatment is to not create anything worse than the disease.
There are three basic types of treatments for psoriasis:
1. Topical treatment (medicated ointments or creams applied to the skin)
2. Phototherapy (UVB, PUVA and lasers)
3. Systemic (medications taken into the body by pill or injection)
Alternative Psoriasis treatments
The use of alternative psoriasis treatments are becoming more common as more and more people choose to treat their condition in more nontraditional ways. They have become tired of finding a traditional therapy that works, or may be concerned about the side effects many of those therapies produce.
Alternative psoriasis treatments are in most cases perfectly safe and include:
Acupuncture, Ayurveda, Manipulation Treatment, Osteopathy, Climatotherapy, Diet, Dietary Supplements, Homeopathy, Water Therapies (Balneotherapy, Heliotherapy, Phytotherapy, Thalassotherapy), Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatments, Meditation and Relaxation, Herbology, Hypnosis, Moisturizing Products, Magnets, Epsom salt, Neem oil, Fasting...

Types of Magnetic Bracelets for Pain Relief
By: Kurt Schmitt
You may know by now that magnetic bracelets are used primarily for pain all up and down the arm. You probably also know that golfers and arthritis sufferers wear them, and some people wear them as a preventative measure.
You may also have been exposed to some of the benefits of wearing a magnetic bracelet. What you may not know is what the differences are between the various types.
Although bracelets are made in different ways, there are a few different major styles based on construction. When shopping for bracelets, here are the main types you'll be looking at.
Magnetic bracelets can be made as singles, doubles, triples, or as a magnetic wraps.
Singles - Single bracelets are, like the name says, a single strand of bead. The beads can be either all magnetic, or magnetic with accent beads. They can be either the stretchy type, or non-stretchy with a magnetic clasp.
Doubles - Doubles offer the opportunity to double the number of magnets. They are made with two strands of beads with a magnetic clasp.
Triples - Triples are made of three strands and a magnetic clasp. These can be very powerful as they may have up to three times the number of magnets as a single.
Lariats - Magnetic lariats, also snakes or wraps can be used as a necklace or anklet as well. They are typically 36 or 37 inches long, and are clasp-less. They wrap around your neck, arm, or ankle, using the magnets to stay together. They are very versatile, strong, and popular.
Now that you're familiar with the basic types of construction, you can better make your choice. Style and attractiveness, while important are secondary to the therapy properties. Obviously this is not the case if you're buying strictly for fashion.
One more thing to note: when choosing magnetic bracelets, you want the maximum therapy advantages for pain relief. That means selecting the one with the largest number of strong magnets.

The No. 1 Liver Problem Is Now Obesity
By:George McKenzie
Ask most people what the number one liver problem is, and they'll probably say "cirrhosis."
Until recently, they would have been right.
Health officials and experts in the U.S. and Canada now agree that obesity caused by poor nutrition and lack of exercise has become a bigger threat to liver health than cirrhosis, which is generally caused by excessive drinking.
Obesity is a major contributing factor to fatty liver disease, which is a buildup of fat cells in the liver.
The liver usually metabolizes fat from the food we eat. But when we overeat, eat food that's bad for us, or don't exercise enough, large droplets of fat start to accumulate in the liver.
As these fat droplets build up, the liver starts to produce more enzymes, which can inflame liver tissue. The inflammation can cause scarring and cirrhosis, in which the liver becomes hardened and liver function is reduced.
Figures indicate that 10-20 percent of the American population has fatty liver disease, which is also known as fatty liver syndrome.
Fatty liver disease is now the fastest growing and most common form of liver ailment in Canada, according to Gary Fagan, president of the Canadian Liver Foundation.
There are few symptoms of fatty liver disease in the early stages. So most people who have it don't even realize it unless they have liver function tests. The liver is remarkable because it keeps functioning and doesn't always tell someone they're in trouble.
Therefore it may be important for doctors to suggest liver function tests for those who don't exercise much, have poor eating habits, or drink excessively.

Some Facts About Asbesto
Jennifer White
While tracing the history of asbestos it was found that its usage dates back to 2000 years. The name 'asbestos' was first used by the Greeks, which meant 'inextinguishable'. Though the Greeks also noted the harmful effect of asbestos, yet they did not pay any heed to its dangers because according to them it had magical powers that had to be used to fulfill the daily purposes of life.
The Roman naturalist Pliny and the Greek geographer Strabo also noted the devastating effect of asbestos on human beings but they did not arise any questions considering its several magical uses in their regular life.
Some Facts about Asbestos
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is the term given to a collection of six naturally occurring minerals that are incombustible and separable into filaments. These six minerals are chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, anthophyllite, termolite and actinolite. Among these six asbestos minerals, the first three are abundantly used in manufacturing of industrial and commercial products.
Uses of Asbestos
Asbestos was being used since ancient Greek times and its usage continued till 1700, but it was popularized after the Industrial Revolution. It was used in construction mainly in steel pipes, industries, steam pipes, hand held hair dryers to prevent over heating, household items and in several other industries for various purposes.
Versatility of Asbestos
The reason for the popularity of asbestos was its power of resistance to electricity and its fire and heat proofing capacities. Being a fireproof or incombustible material, asbestos is impervious to every weather effect. This high tensile strength and flexibility makes asbestos very versatile for usage in various products and industries.
Diseases caused by Asbestos
One of the deadliest diseases caused by asbestos is mesothelioma cancer. It has become a threat to human civilization causing pain, suffering and loss of thousands of lives. The mortality rate is so high that eight out of ten mesothelioma patients pass away even before the treatment starts. It is a deadly cancer caused mainly to those who are exposed to asbestos in some way.
The other deadly disease caused by asbestos is asbestosis, a serious form of lung illness. The main symptoms of asbestosis are short breath after exercise or exertion, dry prolonged cough, general malaise or feeling tired and wheezing.
Treatment of Diseases caused by Asbestos
Being a form of cancer, all the traditional cancer treatments are applied to treat mesothelioma. Surgery for cutting out the affected part of the lungs, chemotherapy to attack the cancer cells; or radiation to kill the cancerous cells are the only treatments for mesothelioma cancer. However, newer and better modes of treatments are being worked out to help mesothelioma patients.
Diagnosis for asbestosis is necessary in its early stage as prolonged asbestosis can turn into mesothelioma cancer later in life. Regular intake of the prescribed medicine and check-up can help a lot. But the life span decreases on its own as the disease is diagnosed a long time after exposure to asbestos.
Legal Claims for Asbestosis and Mesothelioma
An asbestosis or mesothelioma legal claim can be filed on your behalf if your disease is caused by exposure to asbestos. An attorney will investigate how much asbestos containing material you were exposed to, who were the employers and what proper safety measures were taken for your health. This claim can be made against the construction company, the asbestos suppliers and even the individuals who were responsible to look after your health safety.

Silicone Gel Implants Offer A Safe And Natural Look
by Dean Forster
When looking into the options for breast implants, there are two general categories, saline and silicone. Within silicone, there are additional options. You can have either liquid silicone or silicone gel implants. Silicone gel implants are the most commonly preferred by women getting breast augmentation or reconstructive surgery.
To find out why silicone gel implants rank at the top, you need to understand some of the characteristics of liquid silicone and saline solution breast implants. First of all, each implant type features an outer shell constructed of hard silicone. This helps protect the inner filling. Saline solution breast implant filling is basically just salt water. This proves to have no health risk if the implant ruptures, but the resulting appearance tends to have ripples and can even make a sloshing sound.
When filled too full, saline implants can get hard; when under filled, the implants tend to wrinkle. Saline filled implants are also more prone to capsular contracture than silicone gel implants. Capsular contracture happens when the scar tissue around the implant contracts and tightens around the implant making the implant hard and sometimes painful. Saline implants are lower in cost than silicone gel implants, though.
Breast implants filled with liquid silicone can also show ripples. Additionally, if the outer shell of the breast implant is broken, the liquid silicone will leak into the woman's body. This can be a serious health risk. It is also difficult to know if a liquid silicone filled breast implant starts to leak because the deflation can be slow and take a lengthy period of time. Silicone gel breast implants will not leak like the liquid silicone because the gel forms a semi-solid bond.
Silicone gel implants result in the most natural feeling and looking of the breast implant options. The high strength of the silicone gel implant helps it to hold its shape better and remain in an upright position. This reduces the complications that can arise with breast implant surgery. However, the risks that are involved with any type of surgery still exist regardless of the type of breast implant you choose. You can find out more about gel implants and associated risks at http://www.salinevssiliconeimplants.com
Like all breast implants, silicone gel implants come in different shapes and sizes. Saline implants are usually filled at the time of placement. Liquid silicone and silicone gel implants are usually pre-filled. Using implants that are filled before the surgery helps eliminate the chance that there are small leaks in the implant. Breast implants can also feature different textures.
When considering breast augmentation or reconstruction, be sure to find a certified plastic surgeon to discuss all of your options with before you make any decisions. Silicone gel implants, as well as, all breast implants have associated risks and benefits which should be well outlined before you decide to go ahead with breast implant surgery. Also, ask about the procedures of the surgery and recovery time. Knowing your warranty and repair options is also important. Surgery of any kind is a big decision, so treat it as such.

Good Night, Sleep Tight, Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite!
By: Trisha Coppley
If your parent or grandparent ever tucked you in at night, you may have heard this common, yet somewhat curious, chant. Most children never see or hear of bedbugs and never have any idea what their ridiculous parents are talking about, drifting off to sleep without any concern of the attack of the so-called ‘bedbugs’. But, what they are blissfully unaware of is that there actually are bedbugs, scientific name cimex lectularius, and they would love to dine on the delicate flesh of a tender young offspring, if given the chance.
These creatures were most common when our ancestors were dwelling in caves, unprotected from the creatures preying on all the common wildlife of the day, but almost unheard of in the modern world of developed society. Approximately the size of a small apple seed as adults, these creepy-crawlies are notoriously difficult to find. They, like the common tick, are thin enough to slip between floor boards, under outlet covers and into the smallest spaces one could imagine, only emerging at night to feast on their unsuspecting prey.
The result of their bite and feast is no more or less harmful than that of a spider or dedicated mosquito – swelling and itching usually – and can only carry live disease, such as HIV, for up to an hour on its mouth parts so is not well know for passing disease in the modern world. And adult bedbugs can survive up to one year without feeding on blood, so their survivorship of hard times is quite amazing.
The last decade has seen an unprecedented increase in reported bites in highly developed countries – Australia in particular, reporting a 700% increase from 2000 to 2004 compared to the previous 4-year period. There however, the vast majority of the cases were reported from lower-end lodging such as back-packer hotels, people camping or in less than standard dwelling. But even here, in the good old US of A, there are increased reports on both coasts and everywhere in between, from hospitals and dorm rooms, hotels and motels, apartments and even town homes, single family homes and on cruise ships - anywhere there’s good eating for these hungry little bugs. The higher density the population, the happier they are with no regard to income or social status.
Immigrants and travelers have been blamed for their recent re-introduction into modern and developed countries in recent years. With no place on earth outside a couple days travel, we could potentially see other interesting parasites make it onto US turf as well, if customs has no way of detecting and eliminating them.
There is one additional variety of bedbug, cimex hemipterus, that prefers tropical settings, that is said to be in up to 65% of homes located in those regions. These have also made their way into Australia, but not yet to the US, most of which were directly linked to travel to Asia and other Pacific countries.
One of the reasons sited, but not confirmed for the recent proliferation of these pesky intruders is their increased resistance to certain pesticides. In the past pest-control chemicals tended to be broad based, aimed at wiping out cockroaches, ants and the like but also wiping out the populations of bedbugs at the same time. Now, as chemicals are refined to target very specific species, the bedbug is not affected by them, even immune to their effects, thusly given the opportunity to breed and flourish.
If you have a concern about bedbugs or even suspect them to be in your own home, the best thing to do is alert a pest-control company. Typically they will make some recommendations to you and even visit to inspect the area and apply some chemicals to eliminate the parasites from the area. Do not be alarmed by them however, because besides the itchy bite mark, these little critters are fairly benevolent to you and your children or pets.

Bipolar Disorder Can Effect Anyone - Do You Know This Person?
By: Guitarjoe
Janie's life was going well until about a year ago when her boyfriend of five years, Jim, suddenly decided to end their relationship. It was extremely difficult for Janie because the two of them had discussed marriage earlier in their relationship, but it came even more difficult when she found out that Jim later married one of her dear friends from high school.
Janie has has steadily gone downhill since that happened and her close friends and family have noticed things about her that they never had in the past. For example, Janie sometimes would talk rapidly where no one else could get in a word. She also began talking "out of sorts" about the faces she would see floating around in her house and how they were telling her that her father, an former active duty marine, would be entrusted with secret government materials that was going to save America in the war on terror. She would also sometimes laugh uncontrollably about small things that others really didn't find funny.
Janie may have been suffering from symptoms of Bipolar Disorder. People with Bipolar Disorder are also often referred to a Manic Depressive. People with Bipolar Disorder can have serious, sometimes even violent moodswings. As in the example above, Janie could just as easily go from laughing, to crying uncontrollably, to even lashing out in violence. Although you may not believe that a person who seems normally gentle could behave in this manner you must realize that people who are Manic Depressive do not have normal personality traits. Their "normal" state of mind may be as gentle as can be, but they can have violent mood swings that they're not in control of. Some Bipolar patients may lash out for no apparent reason at all.
People that suffer from this disorder can sometimes have delusions of doing something great or they may believe they have some type of magic powers or special abilities. They may also go through phases of needing very little sleep. This can also be a sign of drug use such as cocaine or methamphetamines. Bipolar Disorder can sometimes be very difficult to diagnose because of the multiple symptoms that are shared by other disorders, which by the way, may also be present at the same time. A Guide to Thinning Hair Specialists
by John Tulley
Many different specialists deal with the problems of thinning hair. These will include your barber or hairdresser who may be able to suggest new styles and shampoos. They will not of course be able to prescribe medication. Herbalists may have great knowledge on the subject and be able to suggest food supplements that may help. Both Chinese and Indian herbalists have a long experience treating hair loss and thinning hair problems.
Your general practitioner will be able to discuss the matter and eliminate certain causes such as hypothyroidism, or, in the case of a short term cause, such as the end of pregnancy or interaction with a necessary treatment, they will be able to reassure you. They may also be able to prescribe medication or refer you to a specialist if this seems necessary and helpful.
In the case of women who have recently been pregnant your health visitor or district nurse will be able to explain what is happening and why and what you can expect to happen.
There are many companies and thinning hair specialists out there selling hair restoration products. Look at their web sites carefully and you will see that some have available the results of recent clinical trials or feed back from clients who have used their products. There are also independent web sites giving advice on the subject such as that produced by GM television or Alpha7 Hair Care. However some sites which appear to be independant may belong to drug companies or clinics. That isn't to say that their advice is necessarily biased, but read carefully.
The makers of wigs and toupees are specialists in their own right if that is the way you decide to proceed.
It may be that your general practitioner will refer you to a dermatologist - that is a specialist in skin conditions, or to an endocrinologist - i.e. a specialist in the function of the glands.
You may decide on hair transplant surgery in which case there are a number of clinics which specialise in this sort of treatment, and although these will be private clinics, once again your general practitioner will be able to advise you. Modern methods seem to achieve quite good ( though expensive) results without the cornrow appearance of earlier methods.
Some web site writers are specialists of a different sort - they use words such as 'restore the health of your hair' - this does not necessarily imply new growth. They may have complicated facts and figures that do not compare like with like. They may say such things as '6% improvement after 10 months', but if the clients concerned had 80% loss it will still look like a bald head. So read with care.
Hair loss is a complicated business and there are many different causes of thinning hair and many different treatments available. However the most common cause is genetic i.e if your father or mother had hair loss then your chances of having the same are much increased. In this case this is a progressive condition. Beware of spending your hard earned cash with so called thinning hair specialists who offer amazing results. Some treatments may halt loss or even improve matters for a while, but they can prove quite expensive in the long run and hair re-growth is a slow process, because we all know that even in the best of circumstances hair grows very slowly.

Shingles Symptoms - and Treatments
By Ivan Hince
I can remember quite clearly some forty years ago when a friend told me that her husband had Shingles, and how that he was in great pain, and covered in a terrible rash. At this point I thought nothing about it until recently I was reading an article which compared different types of pain, and Shingles was mentioned.
As I write many different articles about medical health I began to check out what caused it, and why it was ranked as one of the most painful things you can get, so I began to investigate what the symptoms were, and what treatment was available.
Shingles comes from the same virus as the well known Chickenpox which lays dormant in anyone that has had chickenpox, or that has had the chickenpox vaccine. It normally affects older people where the dormant virus travels to the nerve endings in the skin area. From there the pain starts, and often patients have described the pain as coming in extreme waves that have been likened to that of an electric shock. After this stage the rash appears, which will blister and become very painful. These blisters can be full of bacteria, and great care should be taken with cleanliness.
What causes Shingles?
Several Doctors have different ideas on the causes of Shingles, but if the truth they don’t know. Some say it can start from stress, while others relate it to Cancer, or HIV. Radiation is another possibility, and also mentioned would be that it could be that part of the skin has been damaged in some way that sets the virus off. The most likely cause in my eyes is that the immune system gets severely run down, and that the virus which is normally kept at bay by our immune system, then breaks out.
Shingles Symptoms.
The things to look out for are extreme sensitivity in the skin, which tend to have a burning sensation, and slight itching. After this stage the skin becomes painful, and if you think that you may have shingles a call to your Doctor must be made, as the sooner an antiviral medication is given the easier for the patient it will be.
Care must also be taken should the patient have a form of rash near the nose, or on any part of the face. This is most important to get immediate medical help, as if the virus reaches the eyes it can lead to impaired vision, or a complete loss of sight.
Medical care.
With Shingles the sooner you get medical care the better for the patient it will be. Pain killers are a must, along with things like Antihistamine can help with the itching. Often the Doctor will recommend creams or oils that can stop the blisters from drying out to fast, and in several articles it is believed that cold water compresses bring great relief, and keep the skin moist.
If possible avoid contact with others that have not had chickenpox, especially if that person is older, and try to wear loose clothing that doesn’t irate the skin.

How to recognize and deal with a lupus flare up?
So, you’ve been diagnosed with lupus, and you’ve no idea where it came from, but you’ve been told by your doctor that the symptoms you’ve experienced are consistent with the lupus disease. It’s time to take stock of what lupus is, what symptoms you might experience, and how to best treat a flare up.
Can lupus be categorized?
As your doctor will have explained to you, lupus is a disease that affects the autoimmune system by making previously healthy cells attack each other and cause a whole range of lupus symptoms to appear on and in your body. You could describe lupus as being opposite to HIV which actually destroys your autoimmune system, one difference being that HIV can be spread and lupus cannot. lupus may just affect your body at skin-deep level or it may make cells in your internal organs swell up too. You may be lucky and your lupus may stick at doing just one thing, or you could experience a growing number of symptoms. If your lupus is consistent, you’ll be able to work out a great plan of treatment which in most cases can make the world of difference to your life with lupus. But sometimes, lupus attacks a new part of the body, or after a lull, decides to flare up. So the thing to know is how and when to treat a new symptom or an autoimmune flare up.In systemic terms, the lupus disease is one that causes inflammation. Lupus has the nickname ‘the disease with a thousand face’ as a mystery disease that continues to keep doctors in the dark. The term lupus masks a whole range of possible symptoms. They can include decreased energy, weakness, fever, nausea, diarrhea, muscle and joint pain, chest pain, bruising, loss of appetite, weight loss, and a distinctive red, butterfly-shaped rash across the nose and cheeks, mouth sores, joint swelling, hair loss, changes in personality, seizures, and a coin-shaped, red skin rash elsewhere on the body that is aggravated by sunlight. Your kidneys, lungs and blood vessels may end up damaged if your lupus is not under control, or if it has been going on for some time.
How to recognize a new symptom or flare up?
Lupus can be controlled, but you have to take fast action to avoid the worst of lupus flare ups; the times when lupus really takes control of your life, and makes you miss work, school, shopping trips, etc. Flare ups can be controlled by identifying and acting on your trigger points. In some, it could be as simple as exposure to the sun that causes the sudden development of a rash, and then possibly other symptoms. In others, an infection such as a cold or a more serious infection does not get better, and then complications arise. As a disease, lupus repeats itself, often displaying the same sequence of symptoms. So if you recall the first flare up, you will be less trouble recognizing the next. Persistent weakness and fatigue, aching and loss of appetite, hair loss and rashes, all point towards a reactive autoimmune system playing tricks on you.How to treat a flare up?
If you think you have a combination of symptoms that adds up to a lupus flare up, go and see your doctor who might offer medications to control inflammation. But just as importantly, you need to care for yourself and avoid stress. It’s easy to become more stressed if you encounter a flare up situation, but the best response is a controlled calm, coupled with the support of friends and family. And there are many natural things you can do to reduce inflammation in your body. Exercise, eat well and avoid direct sunlight. Take vitamins and other health supplements that have been known to limit lupus flare up damage, and above all, get plenty of sleep and be flexible with your daily routine. You need to take time to allow your lupus to get back under control again.Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_194017_17.html

What Everyone Should Know About the Effects of Water on Hair
by Nadine Visscher
Have you ever noticed that wet hair is heavier than dry hair? Why is that? The outer layer of your hair, the cuticle, is made up of tightly over lapping scales for strength and resistance. And then there is the sebum, or the natural oil, that coats the scaly cuticle. Despite these 2 defenses, your hair still absorbs water. In fact healthy hair can absorb more than 30% of its own weight of water. Damaged hair is even more permeable - it can absorb up to 45% of its own weight of water. When the hair shaft is fully saturated, its diameter increases by 15 - 20% and it stretches or gets longer.Effects of Water
What effect does water then have on hair? When the hair shaft is saturated, the cuticle's structure of the tightly over lapping scales is altered significantly. This causes the hair shaft to be fragile and more easily damaged. Add sunshine to this mix and you have very vulnerable hair. With the scales of the cuticle not offering enough protection, the sunshine can more easily damage the melanain - the part of your hair that is reponsible for color. Therefore, swimming on a hot summer day is refreshing for you, but it is very hard on your hair.
Hair Absorbs Water
You don't need to actually make your hair wet (by swimming, showering, or washing it) for it to absorb moisture; your hair can take in moisture from the air. People actually use human hair to make hygrometers (instruments used to measure humidity). Your hair changes in a very predictable way when you expose it to changes in humidity. It is very simple - hair stretches when it's wet and contracts (shortens) when it's dry. This happens at an exact rate and is proportional to the amount of water in the air. This is what makes your hair so predictably difficult to manage when the weather is humid.
Water is necessary to keep your hair clean, but it is hard on your hair by altering its structure and making it much more susceptible to damage.

Signs of Kidney Stones: Naturally Treat Kidney Stones by Prevention
by Joe Barton
A woman has her baby. A man has his kidney stones. Believe it or not, but both people will experience the same level of pain. Kidney stones are not as simple as the common cold and a lot more painful! Though unlike the cold, kidney stones do have a cure, in fact a natural cure! In order for you to take the steps to cure your kidney stones, it is important to know the signs and symptoms of kidney stones. In this article, you will discover kidney stone symptoms and how preventing kidney stones can actually lead to part of the kidney stone natural cure.Signs of Kidney Stones
Kidney stone pain usually originates around your back or side (typically under your rib cage). The pain typically can last for a few minutes up to 20 minutes. As the symptoms persist, the pain will usually move towards the stomach and groin region. Kidney sufferers have also experienced the following symptoms: unusual color of urine (possible blood); persistent stomach aches; nausea; gagging; vomit; fever; chills; and possible need to urinate more often.
Prevention of Kidney Stones
It always is a good rule of thumb when treating any ailment including kidney stones, 'the best way to treat it; is to prevent it'. Therefore you must decide now whether you are going to live your life in constant pain with kidney stones or are you going to live a healthier lifestyle and begin preventing further kidney stones today! If you chose the latter, you can begin naturally treating your kidney stones today! The following list is guidelines which you should begin to live by while you treat and prevent kidney stones.
Kidney Stone-Free Lifestyle: 7 tips to start your cure
1. Greatest cause of kidney stones is dehydration. In other words, drink water throughout the day! Our advice, go to the store and buy a Nalgene water bottle and drink at least 2 quarts per day (maybe 3 quarts). My friend recently returned from the Middle East with pictures and kidney stones. Why? Lack of fresh water and lack of hydration.
2. The Clear Test! This might be redundant but we think you will remember this one! Whenever you urine, your urine should be clear. Therefore, moderate soda, tea and coffee (one choice per day)! Did you know that caffeine will contribute to kidney stones?
3. Avoid Curry! Not really but our main point is to avoid spicy foods. Research shows that spicy foods increase the chance of kidney stones.
4. Don't be Lazy! We're not your coach but we will if you want us to be! In all seriousness, living a lifestyle with little movement causes hundreds of health problems including the formation of kidney stones. Our suggestion: go for a walk, go for a hike, walk the dog, do anything that gets you off the recliner!
5. Lower Dairy Intake by eating less cheese and drinking less milk. However, go to the store and buy a calcium supplement. Low levels of calcium lead to a particular form of kidney stones.
6. Lower sugar intake. Did you know that research shows that high levels of sugar intake leads to the formation of kidney stones? Make a list of your high sugar snacks and think of ways to substitute. Switch a candy bar for a piece of fruit. Though the idea of it does not sound the greatest; in the long run you can actually train your taste buds to enjoy it.
7. Discover what vitamins you should take and how to dissolve and flush your kidney stones in hours. Keep reading!
Make the Change Today!
How long does it take to form a habit? Experts say about 30 to 60 days depending on the individual. With this said, you can change the habits that gave you the kidney stones. You can even change your taste buds to crave foods that are healthy for you. You can even change how you think about exercise. How is all this possible? Discover how you can dissolve and flush your kidney stones in literally hours and become healthier in the process. Thousands have tried it and thousands have succeeded! Chemotherapy Treatment and Hair Loss
By: Tim Bock
In chemotherapy treatment the entire body is affected in one way or another. Unfortunately a side effect of this treatment is hair loss. Chemotherapy is carried out by administering drugs that are designed to kill cancerous cells. These drugs are injected right into the vein or muscle tissue. The drugs flow through the blood stream. Because of this systematic treatment the drugs cannot be taken orally.
Since there are several types of chemotherapy drugs, side effects can vary. These drugs generally affect rapidly dividing cells. Mostly affected are blood cells. It’s important to note that these cells primarily job is to fight infection, carry oxygen to other areas of the body and help clot blood. Cancer patients will be more exposed to infections, bleed easily and become more fatigued.
One side effect for some chemotherapy drugs is thinning hair. It’s also possible that that you could lose your hair all together, depending on the drugs used. Some people take this kind of hair loss very seriously, which is understandable because it’s so noticeable and not easy to hide. It’s a good idea to understand the implications of chemotherapy induced hair loss before it happens. This will make the transition easier down the road.
Depression is often a byproduct of chemotherapy and hair loss in cancer patients. It’s sometimes difficult to deal with the helplessness and embarrassment of the situation. It’s never easy for friends and family either. Cancer, no matter what type, is always serous and often times hereditary. Women usually have a much a more difficult time dealing with this type of hair loss then men do, since a woman’s hair is usually a part of her personally and pride.
Through this difficult time it’s important to never lose hope. Sometimes the best way to deal with the situation is positive thinking. Positive thinking can sometimes lead us through the darkest times, even when things seem hopeless.
In chemotherapy treatment the entire body is affected in one way or another. Unfortunately a side effect of this treatment is hair loss

Strep Throat - The simple facts and the cures
By Robert W. Benjamin
What is Strep Throat: Strep Throat is a severe Infection of the throat and tonsils.
What causes Strep Throat: Strep Throat is caused by the streptococcal bacteria, and is spread by close contact with someone who has the ilness. Usualy the infected person coughs or sneezes, spreading the disease. Untreated patients are very infectious for 2-4 weeks after the beginning of the infection.
Symptoms Of Strep Throat: The most common symptoms of Strep Throat are a very red, sore throat. Often there are white patches on the tonsils, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, fever and headache, upset stomach and vomiting. Often the sore throat comes on rapidly, and the fever can sometimes be greater than 102 degrees.
Treatment For Strep Throat: The best treatment for Strp Throat is usualy Antibiotics. Antibiotics will quickly reduce symptoms, and reduce the chances of complications. Penicillin is usualy given as the antibiotic of choice, but since a lot of folks are allergic to Penicillin, the doctor may prescribe Erythromycin instead. Other antibiotics that are effective include amoxicillin, and cephalosporin. Although Strep throat symptoms may subside within 4 days even without treatment, it is very important to be treated by a doctor, and to complete the full course of antibiotics to prevent severe complications such as heart or kidney troubles. Amoxicillin should be avoided as a treatment of a sore throat if bacterial (swab) confirmation has not been obtained as it causes a distinctive rash should the true illness prove to be Glandular Fever instead of Strep Throat. In most cases, a standard dose of penicillin, taken for 10 days, will cure the strep throat infection without any problems. Relief from the sore throat should come within 24 to 48 hours after you start taking antibiotics. Doctors recommend throat sprays and lozenges to help ease the throat pain until the antibiotics start helping.
Preventing Strep Throat: Strep Throat is very contagious, so the best line of prevention is to stay away from those that have it. Wash all drinking and eating utensils in very hot soapy water. If caring for an infected person, the caregiver should wash hands often after contact. Another way to help prevent strep throat is to try to reduce your stress, get plenty of rest and other things that help keep the bodies defenses strong.

Coffee-The Cure For Cancer?
by: JH Reynolds
Caffeine, the chemical stimulant in coffee and tea, has been found to lower the risk of skin cancer in laboratory mice.
A study suggests that a skin lotion spiked with caffeine or with another compound found in green tea can reduce by more than half the number of cancer tumors on the skin of hairless mice exposed to brutal levels of ultraviolet radiation, said Dr. Allan Conney, a professor of cancer and leukemia research at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.
"We had between 50 to 70 percent tumor formation inhibition in the mice that were treated with caffeine or with EGCG (the other chemical compound)," said Conney, senior author of a study appearing this week in the online site of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers in the United States. The American Academy of Dermatology estimates about a million cases will be diagnosed in the country this year. Among them will be more than 88,000 new cases of melanoma, the disease's deadliest form. Skin cancer generally is curable by cutting, burning or freezing the tumor cells, but untreated it can be deadly.
To test effects of caffeine on skin cancer, Conney and his colleagues exposed 90 mice to high levels of ultraviolet radiation twice a day for 20 days. They used a strain of animals, called hairless mice, commonly used for skin cancer studies.
After the mice got their UVB doses, the animals were divided into three groups. One group were slathered daily with a solution of acetone and caffeine. Another group received acetone and EGCG. The third group got skin applications of acetone only. Acetone is an organic solution often used on the skin.
At the end of 18 weeks, the three groups of mice were killed, and the level of skin tumor formation was analyzed.
Conney said mice in all three groups developed malignant skin tumors, called squamous cell carcinomas, but the number of tumors per mouse was reduced by 72 percent in those treated with caffeine and by 66 percent among those treated with EGCG, compared to the controls treated only with acetone.
The treated mice also had fewer nonmalignant, sunlight-related tumors, said Conney. Compared to the control group of mice, the mice treated with caffeine had 44 percent fewer nonmalignant tumors, the EGCG group 55 percent fewer, he said.
Conney said that although both compounds were effective in lower tumor risk, caffeine has an advantage because it is chemically more stable than EGCG.
Unlike sun screen lotions, which protect against skin cancer by preventing the skin from absorbing ultraviolet rays from the sun, the caffeine's cancer protection works in the cells after exposure to the ultraviolet rays. Rays from the sun can cause genetic changes in the skin that can lead to skin cancer. Conney said caffeine apparently blocks this action by causing abnormal cells to kill themselves, a type of programed cell suicide that prevents development of abnormal growths.
"This is not a sunscreening effect," said Conney. "It is a biological effect."
He said the caffeine acts selectively, causing the abnormal cells to die but not affecting the normal cells.
Caffeine, heavily consumed in coffee, tea and some cola drinks, has been shown in other studies to prompt mental alertness in many people. Some studies have suggested caffeine aggravates symptoms of menopause or intensifies the side effects of some antibiotics. Heavy caffeine use has been linked to miscarriage. Some studies also have suggested that some people can become addicted to caffeine and can experience headaches and other symptoms when deprived of their morning coffee or cola.
Dr. Darrell Rigell, a professor of dermatology at New York University and an expert spokesman for the American Academy of Dermatology, said research like Conney's is needed badly because "skin cancer is a major problem. I hope this treatment can prove itself, because there are more skin cancers than all other cancers combined in the U.S."
He said there is a need for a "morning-after" treatment for skin cancer, a therapy that would reduce cancer risk after excessive sun exposure.
Rigell said that although hairless mice are commonly used for such research, "there is really no good animal model for skin cancer. The hairless mouse is the best of a bunch of bad choices" for testing skin cancer compounds in the laboratory.
As a result, he said, "a lot of things that work in mice cannot be extrapolated to humans."
He said other treatments that showed promise in mice have often failed when tried on humans.
Conney said the next step in studying the topical effects of caffeine will be to use the solution on people who are highly susceptible to skin cancer — people who have a precancerous condition or who already have had skin cancer.

How to Reduce Cell Phone's EMR

By: Lambert Klein
Cell phones and other electronic gadgets produce harmful EMR (Electromagnetic Radiation). This EMR is not natural and vibrates at a much higher frequency than is in nature. Nature, which includes you, the earth and the plants, vibrates at a much lower and random frequency.
We are bombarded daily by EMR from not only our cell phones but by all of our electrical appliances such as refrigerators and computers. The electric lines that enter our homes invade our health with EMR also.
Although we cannot control every aspect of our existence, we can fight back. One thing you can do is to stay away from electrical devices that produce EMR as much as possible.
Salt lamps can help to counteract some of EMR adverse effects by emitting negative ions. There are devices such as cell phone chips that can be placed on your cell phones. These are believed to impede the negative effects of EMR. There does seem to be reports that prove that these chips presently work.
These chips can also be placed on computers, appliances, refrigerators as well as in cars. This could cut down on the negative effects of EMR.
When you are exposed to EMR from your cell phone your cells respond by hardening their membranes. This disrupts their natural jobs of transferring information and also builds up toxic waste.
This can produce more free radicals and interfere with DNA repair. This can be the beginning of disease. The chips that can be placed on cell phones and other electrical devices can stunt the EMR negative effects by altering the quality of the EMR field. The device seems to reprogram both transversal and longitudinal waves to eliminate negative effects of electromagnetic sources.
We do sacrifice our health quite a bit in the name of convenience. Although we can't escape all of EMR negative results, we can willingly help by using good judgment and the tools available to us.
Sometimes we need to retreat back to nature where we can get away from all of the modern interference and pollution. This may be possible by going camping in the country or visiting areas that are far away from modern inventions.
Even though we can't all run away to a deserted island, we can do our part in cleaning up EMR pollution.
For most of us that are stuck in our current position we can at least explore ways to deal the best we can with mans-so-called advances in technology.

Quick and Easy Home Remedy for Ear Infection

What Causes An Ear Infection?
An ear infection is a common side effect of a cold, a sinus infection, and other problems. The small tube that connects the inner ear with the nose becoming blocked usually causes earaches. Moisture builds up in the ear, and pressure increases. Thus, we get an ear infection. There are a variety of options if you are looking for a home remedy for ear infection. Here are just a few of them.
Ways You Can Ward Off An Ear Infection
Many people consume zinc supplements to help act as a home remedy for ear infection, as well as other illnesses. A few drops of three percent hydrogen peroxide solution in each ear, sitting for about ten minutes, will help cure earaches caused by an ear infection.
Onions and garlic are known to have anti-bacterial properties. Warm onion juice can be used as an eardrop. You can also warm up two garlic cloves in a couple of teaspoons of mustard oil until the oil turns black. Once it is cool, this oil can then be used as a simple home remedy for ear infection.
Use Some Oil
If the ear is simply irritated, you may be able to soothe it by applying a few drops of olive oil. Likewise, mustard oil, applied daily, can help to reduce your chances of getting an ear infection or at least speed the healing up if you already have one.
You can put together two drops of lavender oil, two of chamomile oil, and three drops of tea tree oil in an almond oil solution. Use this mixture, slightly warmed up, as an eardrop three times a day. Chamomile is also known to sooth inflammation, and tea tree oil has well documented anti-microbial properties.
Heat Things Up
Holding a warm, wet cloth to the ear will improve circulation in the ear, and help remove wax that is creating a blockage.
Applying heat to an earache can usually reduce the pain. Heating pads and electric blankets can be a useful home remedy for ear infection. Remember never to put anything into your ear to try to remove a blockage. You could injure your ear, or push blockages in further.
Other home remedy for ear infection suggestions include eardrops made from mashed, peeled turmeric root in water, or a one to one ratio of rubbing alcohol and white vinegar. Turmeric has traditional uses as a natural antibiotic, so it's a good choice for an ear wash.
In the other home remedy, the alcohol's drying action will reduce the moisture in the ear canal, and vinegar's cleaning action can kill fungi or bacteria infecting the ear.

The Classes of Malocclusion in Orthodontics
by: Avis Ward
The technical term for orthodontic dental and facial irregularities is malocclusion, which literally means 'bad bite.' Malocclusion involves the misalignment of the teeth and jaws and/or an incorrect relationship between the upper and lower dental arches. Malocclusion can be dental, where the teeth aren't lined up properly and skeletal, which occurs when the upper and lower jaws do not line up correctly.
The way the teeth fit together is extremely important in how well teeth work and can affect appearance and self-esteem and the health of the teeth, digestion, and overall health. Because of the pressure the jaws can put on the teeth, misaligned teeth can also cause chronic pain and soreness. The most common causes of malocclusion are too much or not enough room in the jaw (or jaws) for the teeth.
The father of modern orthodontics, Edward Hartley Angle, created the classifications of malocclusion, based on the placement of the first molars. Malocclusions are divided mainly into three types: Class I, Class II and Class III.
In Class I malocclusion, the relationship of the first molars is normal and the upper and lower jaws are in a normal relationship to each other, but the other teeth are crowded, irregularly spaced, or overlapped. Crossbites and rotations can occur in severe cases of Class I malocclusion.
Malocclusion can range from mild to severe. Most people have some degree of malocclusion, and some people even have different classes of malocclusion on the left and right sides. For most people, bad bites aren't serious enough to require orthodontic treatment, but in those with moderate to severe conditions, eating and/or speaking can be negatively affected. Children and adults who have moderate to severe malocclusions need orthodontic treatment, perhaps even surgical treatment, to straighten their teeth and improve their quality of life.

* True
* False
16. Acne is no big deal.
* True
* False
ANSWER KEY:
1. FALSE: Popping pimples may seem to reduce their size, but it can actually aggravate blemishes by spreading bacteria, causing them to take longer to heal. Not only that, but popping or picking at pimples causes scars and dark spots to form.
2. FALSE: It’s important to have a clean face, but washing your face with force several times a day can cause your skin to produce more oil to make up for the moisture being washed away. Not to mention skin will become red and irritated. Your best bet is to wash once or twice a day with a gentle liquid cleanser that contains Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree extract.
3. FALSE: Pizza, chocolate and junk food have long been labeled “acne magnets,” but there’s very little scientific evidence to back up this claim. However, men should aim to eat a balanced diet full of vitamins from fruits and vegetables, and drink a lot of water for overall well-being.
4. FALSE: When you tan, dead cells build up on your skin’s surface. This can often cause your pores to look tighter and the surface to look smoother. Tanning also masks redness caused by acne. However, once the tan disappears, you’ll be left with greater outbreaks and darker acne scars and marks. Protect skin exposed to direct sunlight by regularly applying sunscreen (especially if using a treatment containing Benzoyl Peroxide).
5. TRUE: Men who work in places that put them in constant contact with grease and oil (restaurants and garages, for example) may find themselves breaking out more because oil creates an ideal environment for bacteria to reproduce. Although there’s no simple way to rectify this, they should clean skin gently at least twice a day and try to keep their hands from their faces at all times.
6. TRUE: Benzoyl Peroxide is an antibacterial ingredient prescribed by dermatologists as the preferred topical medicine for safe treatment for acne. It clears acne-causing bacteria on the surface, absorbs excessive oils and clear pores, while promoting greater cell exfoliation and renewal. Doctors also prescribe Green Tea, Urea and Allantoin to help soothe acne-irritated skin. Because Benzoyl Peroxide has powerful antibacterial and exfoliating qualities, it may take some time for skin to get used to the treatment. Once skin has become accustomed to the treatment however, irritation, redness or dryness usually disappears. The best bet is to apply a small amount only once a day, and then increase frequency gradually over 5 – 6 days. If too much dryness occurs, decrease frequency and gradually increase again.
7. TRUE: Glycolic and Salicylic Acids work very effectively to exfoliate dead skin cells and clear pores. By reducing pore blockage, acne has less of a chance to form and breakouts are reduced. Exfoliation with gentle products that contain Glycolic and Salicylic Acids helps smooth and clean skin, while also reducing instances of ingrown hairs as well.
8. FALSE: During acne treatment, skin often seems to take a turn for the worse before it begins getting better. This is due in part to the need to become accustomed to a treatment and the exfoliating process of shedding dead skin cells. The important thing is to keep usage regular. If, however, skin remains irritated for a long period of time, stop acne treatment and consult a doctor.
9. TRUE: It takes new cells 28 days to form and move through the epidermal layer of skin to finally appear on the surface. This is why results are not always immediately apparent. Using a product with Glycolic Acid may accelerate this process and help clear away dead skin cells.
10. TRUE: Noncomedogenic means ingredients in the product do not clog pores or provoke acne. Although it’s definitely recommended for men with oily skin, you should use non-irritating, noncomedogenic products no matter what skin type you have. All MenScience products have been developed by doctors and are noncomedogenic.
11. FALSE: Perspiration helps flush toxins from the body and maintains body temperature, but it does not cleanse skin at all. In fact, leaving sweat on your body can actually cause acne breakouts. Because of this, remember to take a shower or wash your face immediately after sweating heavily with a gentle cleanser several times a day.
12. FALSE: If only this were true! While acne outbreaks are often strongest during teen years (due to hormonal imbalances and improper skincare), acne can affect men their entire lives. Good skin health needs to be regularly maintained to avoid falling prey to blemishes.
13. FALSE: Acne can affect guys with any skin type, from dry to combination and even normal. Men with oily skin might be more susceptible to outbreaks, but they are by no means alone.
14. TRUE: Bacteria (P. acnes) play a big part in the creation of acne. Once a skin pore becomes clogged, acne bacteria begin to grow, causing blemishes to form. Benzoyl Peroxide is the most effective treatment for acne because it introduces oxygen into the bacteria, which kills it.
15. TRUE: Using a gentle exfoliating face scrub that contains Salicylic and Glycolic Acids can help clear pores of dirt and blockage, cutting down on the instances of acne. However, do not use a scrub if your acne is severe; it could aggravate your skin further.
16. TRUE….and FALSE: Acne is a painful, annoying condition, but it doesn’t need to negatively affect your lifestyle. While healthy skin is something we should all aim for, an occasional pimple or breakout is nothing to freak out about and can be treated with the right acne products. Remember: almost everyone is affected by acne. By using the most effective acne products and skincare techniques, there’s nothing to stop you from attaining a clear, healthy complexion.

Highlights and Lowlights: Your Guide To Hair Coloring Options
by Gia Deonne
Ready for a little color boost? Whatever your natural (or Joico Vero Color) shade may be, hair highlights and lowlights can provide contrast and help you to create a striking, unique look. If you've never experimented with highlights or lowlights, but are intrigued by the idea of these color-treatment options, you've come to the right place. Here is your definitive guide to both of these treatments, presented by Joico: the leading name in the professional, salon-quality hair product industry.
Hair Color Highlighting Defined:
Simpy put, hair highlighting is a way to lighten, brighten, and enhance your hair color. While there are home-highlighting treatments available, your best option for stunning, professional quality results is to have your hair highlighted at your Joico salon, where your expertly-trained Joico stylist will use Vero Color hair products. There are many types of highlights available, the most popular ones being "streaking" which involves multiple, contrasting-hued highlights, and the classic front-of-the-hairstyle highlight method. Whichever highlighting shade and method you choose, keep in mind that the health of your hair will have a direct impact on the overall appearance and quality of your results. If your hair has been severely damaged, due to environmental factors like excessive sun or humidity, or an excess of styling and home-hair coloring products, ask your stylist if Joico K-PAK Hair Reconstructive System- an intense, seventeen-minute salon-only treatment, is right for you, before you have highlights or other color applied.
The Hair Color Lowlight Lowdown:
Hair Lowlighting delivers exactly what the name implies, by darkening and deepening your color with a contrasting shade, providing a unique, striking look. As with highlighting, your lowlights can be abundant, or simply done, and the color you choose should complement, or provide contrast, to your current shade. The health of your hair is also an important consideration when deciding on the type, and frequency of your highlighting treatments, since damaged hair does not hold or absorb color as well as healthy hair normally will. Lowlighting is a trend that many celebrities, including Courtney Cox, and Scarlett Johansson have been seen with, and is swiftly gaining as much popularity as highlighting treatments. The most important thing to remember when selecting a lowlighting shade is that colors that are dramatically darker (black lowlights on blonde hair) may not always turn out exactly as planned, which is why it is so important to have your hair coloring done professionally by a Joico salon stylist.
Joico Vero Color: Coverage You Can Count On
Joico Vero Color, available only in fine salons, provides the full, radiant coverage you would expect from Joico, the leading name in the professional hair care product industry. In addition, Vero Color contains the K-PAK system: a proven formula of vitamins, strengtheners and natural extracts designed to nourish and protect, while adding luster and shine. Increase Metabolism with the Help of Fat Burners
by Ketty Johnson
Many people desire to enhance their metabolism so they can burn fat more successfully. Metabolism is the absolute set of chemical reactions that take place in living cells. These processes are the core of life, allowing cells to raise and reproduce, by keeping their structures, and act in response to their environments. Metabolism is mostly separated into two categories. Catabolism yields energy, an example being the breakdown of food in cellular respiration. Anabolism, on the other hand, uses this energy to create components of cells such as proteins and nucleic acids.
The prime reason that people are get overweight is because their BMR basal metabolic rate (basal metabolic rate) is lower than it should be. BMR is the rate at which our body burns calories to carry out its normal functions of digestion, breathing, circulation etc. Our body needs a minimum number of 1500 to 2000 calories a day to carry out its normal functions. When it does not get its daily requirement it slows down the metabolic rate. This means that they burn lesser calories in a day. That's why at over a period of months, this adds up to stored fat.
To counter with such situation we have take foods which have properties of burning calories like fat burning foods. This foods burn more calories than the calorie content of the foods itself. These fat burning foods or so called negative calorie foods are natural plant foods. Like fruits which is rich in vitamin C which are like limes, lemons, oranges, grapefruit and tangerines have fat burning properties. If you eat these fat burning foods along with some exercise, it will help to boost your metabolism and burn calories.
For fast results we can take some fat burner supplement which is proven by several studies that it is quite effective because Fat burners is help to raise your metabolism so you burn fat faster. Fat burners are essentially medicine which carries certain herbal ingredients such as Ephedra, HCA, Chitosan and Pyruvate, all of which claim to either enhance energy, raise your metabolism and/or suppress your appetite.

Mesothelioma Information
By: Hans Hasselfors
Mesothelioma in itself is one of the deadliest diseases ever to have been discovered by mankind. Medically, Mesothelioma as a word itself means a tumor that is more likely to transform in a fast proliferating cancer which affects the mesothelial cells of an organ, which form the protective thin covering over the organs like heart, lungs and abdomen.
Whatever is the verbal definition given out to this deadly disease, but those can never for sure weigh the deadliness of this fatal disease. It is an absolutely fatal disease which has taken many a people into its deadly grip. The maximum period of survival after the disease has been diagnosed, has come to the most of a year or two. It is worse form of cancer which is not curable. However, recent studies have suggested that if the disease can be diagnosed at a very early stage then the life of the individual who gets affected by this deadly disease, can be stretched till at the most of 5 years. The treatment of this disease is very expensive but the treatment doesn't assure life but a few more days, to procure the huge lump-sum required for the treatment, people also file lawsuits to cover the huge incurring expenses for the treatment.
The main cause of mesothelioma has been detected as to the prolonged exposure to asbestos. Most of the patients that have been diagnosed with the disease, had acquired the disease cause of prolonged exposure to asbestos. The statistics of the mesothelioma patients has revealed the connection between the asbestos and the dangerous cancer syndrome.
And usually this disease is found to affect people and workers who work in industries. Usually, industries use asbestos as an imperative input for carrying on different processes; it is being used in factories, automobile, shipyard and construction. Direct exposure to loose asbestos fibers can develop the symptoms of mesothelioma, but the infected cells can remain dormant in the body for a long period of about 15-20 years.
But the worst par of the disease is the fact that this disease generally gets detected in older days i.e. at the age of 50-60 years and also mostly in the last stage. Thereby, reducing the chances of the individual's recovery. So this is very necessary that people who are likely to take in much asbestos particles should be scanned regularly for any symptoms of mesothelioma.
Government policies have empowered the mesothelioma patients to claim for compensation. They can file lawsuits with the help of their attorneys for claiming such compensation. The mesothelioma victims can sue the company in which he had been employed into, for not being socially rational, but being more inclined towards the flowing profits, and not undertaking any steps to slacken the use of asbestos or using in a more protective way which has resulted in endangering the lives of the employees.

Do You Know What Gingivitis Looks Like? You Should!
By: Taylor Clarke
If you knew that your mouth was headed for trouble, would you want to know? If you could apply the emergency brake and prevent yourself from having to undergo hours of dental work and the insertion of fillings as well as prevent the loss of teeth, would you do whatever it took? The answer is quite probably a resounding “yes!” To this end, the next question needs to be: Do you know what gingivitis looks like? If you do not, you should!
Little is more definitive of dental health than the absence, presence, or extent of gingivitis in your mouth. While the term is frequently bandied about in television commercials for a wide array of different dental hygiene products, very few actually know what gingivitis looks like. Generally speaking, gingivitis is best explained as being a noticeable inflammation – or reddening – of the gums (also known as the gingiva). The area of particular interest to the gingivitis detective is the gum line where gums and teeth meet.
A conspicuous reddening of this sensitive area occurs because of dental plaque that is sticks on to the various exterior portions of the teeth. Plaque itself usually cannot be seen – although there are some dental rinses available that help to color the plaque and thus reveal its locations on your teeth – but it is safe to say that each and every mouth contains it. Over time – within minutes and over the span of hours – it builds up and requires removal. Brought on by bacteria which reside in your mouth, plaque left on teeth will lead to tooth decay and finally necessitate the treatment of dental cavities. When left on the gums, this very same substance is at the root of causation of periodontal diseases, such as gingival recession, loss of connective tissues, and damage to the alveolar bone.
Take stock of the following symptoms that are almost always associated with gingivitis:
- Gums are swollen and bleed easily, such as when biting into a firm apple, while flossing, or simply when brushing with a soft bristled brush.
- The color of the gums is bright red, not the healthy pink that usually characterizes the inside of a healthy mouth, and occasionally may even shift to a more purplish or mottled appearance.
- One symptom sometimes associated with gingivitis is the presence of mouth sores, yet since they are a symptom linked with a large number of ailments and conditions it is wise to not rest a home diagnosis simply on the presence or absence of a sore or any number thereof.
Of course, the final determination about the presence or absence of gingivitis in your mouth should come from a trained dental professional, and visiting such an individual at least two times a year – although a higher frequency of such visits may be indicted if you have had dental problems or treatments in the recent past – will go a long ways to not only recognizing and dealing with gingivitis but to also remove the root cause: hardened plaque!

Elliptical Fitness Trainers - Which One Is Right For You?

By: Kenneth Patrick
Jogging and running can lead to major knee complications especially over years of pounding on the hard pavement. With an elliptical trainer a person can avoid a lot of pain and the surgeon's knife.
But not all elliptical trainers are created the same nor are they all as effective in ensuring one is getting the most intense exercise. Some elliptical trainers today do very little in the way of one getting what the want in terms of overall fitness.
If you are in need of losing fat and keeping your muscle, make sure you keep that in mind when assessing the type of elliptical trainer you need. If you are going to devote a lot of time into a elliptical trainer it will make sense to look at the higher end models so you will get your investment back.
After you have done a thorough assessment of your fitness requirements, it is time to take the following into your further review:
1. One major factor to consider when buying an elliptical trainer is stride length. A good elliptical trainer will have a stride length of 20 inches or greater.
2. All elliptical trainers come with varying levels of resistance. If you find one that does not have a feature that allows resistance levels of 10 or higher, that elliptical trainer is not for you.
3. A good elliptical trainer comes with a set of programs that allow you to workout at different intensity and resistance levels. You want to make sure they have plenty of programs available to choose from.
4. Does the elliptical trainer have options like arm workouts, heart rate monitors, etc?
After doing your due diligence, you should have a pretty good amount of data collected on an elliptical trainer. Now it is time to compare prices. There are many good manufactures out there so look for a good price but don't sacrifice quality. The investment you make into an elliptical trainer will reward you many times over if you make the right decision.

Find the Right UV Air Purifier and Protect Yourself from Influenza
By: Mary Coyle
Influenza is the name given to a family of viruses that take on similar characteristics and symptoms. However, as each year progresses, viruses mutate and slightly varied forms of the virus are formed. In most cases, influenza makes us feel a miserable, but within a few days to a week we feel better and able to resume normal activities. The problem is that as the flu virus mutates it becomes more difficult to manage, and in rare cases such as the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919 or what is now posing a threat to Asia and expected to spread across the globe is the avian bird flu, also described as the H5N1 flu, can even result in death.
Although people in the United States are taking the threat of the avian bird flu lightly, experts say that when a person is infected by the H5N1 flu, the mortality rate is extremely high-between 50% and 65% infected thus far have died. In comparison, only 2.5% to 5% of those infected with the Spanish Flu died.
Anthony Fauci and some of his colleagues wrote in a commentary in the Journal of the American Medical Association, that "pandemic prevention strategies must be based on expecting the unexpected and being capable of reacting accordingly."
Some people want to focus on finding a vaccine to help minimize the risk of an influenza outbreak. However, as people continue to get vaccinations, they are also building up an immunity that may prevent other forms of the vaccine from being effective.
BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, a U.S. based company, is planning on testing a new anti-viral drug called Peramivir in Asia over the next month. In mice and ferrets, the drug is shown to improve survival rates, and experts are projecting that this is the next drug which will combat all types of influenza, including H5N1.
There are already treatments for influenza with drugs such as Tamiflu; however, early treatment, typically within the first 48 hours of symptoms is essential. Because people aren't always able to be diagnosed and treated early-on with medications, we must find a way to prevent the outbreak of all types of influenza viruses. This is critical because as the virus mutates treatment methods are difficult and sometimes impossible to find. Thankfully, UV air purifiers/sterilizers are available to rid the air of viruses and bacteria.
UV sterilizers/clarifiers are far superior to other air purification methods because they utilize the power of AHPCO (Advanced Hydrated Photocatalytic Oxidation) cell technology. Unlike other air purification methods, AHPCO removes particulate matter including pet dander, dust mites, mold and pollen spores, as well as VOC's (volatile organic compounds) which are found in a variety of cleaning solutions, paint, carpet, etc. AHPCO cell technology utilizes the power of a broad spectrum, high-intensity UV light and provides all of the benefits of ozone disinfection. However, ultraviolet air purification systems that emit low-levels of ozone (which are both safe and at a level that is far below what the FDA approves) in the hydrated catalytic cell, create advanced oxidation-a safe and effective method of ridding the air of harmful particulates and odors. This is where certain ultraviolet air purification systems lack. VOC elimination is difficult to come by; however, it is essential in maintaining indoor air quality, and preventing us from contracting illnesses and viruses such as influenza. Due to its effectiveness, it is even believed to prevent mutated forms that could lead to an Avian Flu outbreak in the United States.
Finding a high-quality UV light air purifier is crucial in maintaining good indoor air quality. Since most Americans spend 90% or more of their time indoors, where harmful particulates, illnesses, bacteria, and a variety of allergen triggers surround us continuously, it is imperative that we ensure our surroundings do not support the on-set of illnesses and other health concerning conditions. For this reason, the following items should be considered before purchasing a UV clarifier.
UV disinfection systems are unique and one way to compare one system to another is based on coverage. This is a factor that is primarily dependent upon use and function. Is it being used in a small and confined space such as an office where a smaller unit that covers 500 square feet is efficient? Or do you need something that would provide indoor air purification the size of a typical apartment with up to 1000 square feet of coverage? Or do you feel that the treatment of a full home covering up to 3000 square feet is more suitable to your needs? These are crucial in determining what UV disinfection method is going to give you the coverage and reliability that you need.
Then next thing to consider before purchasing a UV clarifier is cost. One way to view the cost of an ultraviolet air purification system is by considering the health benefits that an effective UV clarifier will be able to offer. Doctor's visits and missed work from illness costs people a lot of money over the course of a year. However, quality UV disinfection systems can cost as little as a few hundred dollars, a very reasonable cost compared to compromised health that could lead to even more serious issues in the long run. In addition, the cost of running the air purification system can cost as little as pennies a day. Because UV air purifiers can rid the air of bacteria (bacteriostatic), mold (mycostatic), viruses (such as influenza and colds), VOC's, odors, and various small particulates that can trigger allergies, the benefits of indoor air purification are far reaching.
The final area of consideration before purchasing a UV light air purifier is noise. Some ultraviolet air purification systems have the ability to keep a fan on or off and still provide clean the air of harmful particulates. Additionally, for some of the better quality UV disinfection systems, they are able to run with virtually no noise.
Since our health is one of the most important aspects that controls quality and length of life, we must protect it. Ultraviolet air purification systems are proven to cleanse the indoor air and remove harmful particulates including mold, viruses, bacteria, and pet dander that can cause illnesses (such as influenza) and allergies.
Clean Air with Ultraviolet offers a variety of energy efficient products that will get the results you are seeking. For more information on indoor air purifiers or the benefits of air purification, please visit Clean Air with Ultraviolet.

Tips On Getting A Good Laser Eye Surgeon

Cindy
You might be tired of searching for lost contact lenses, cleaning your glasses, or simply distressing about where the money will come from to pay for next years supply of contacts. After a long wait, you have finally decided that you want to do something about your eyesight. If you think that laser eye surgery might be something that you want to think about, there are a few things you can consider in order to get the best laser eye surgeon.
Things To Do If You Are Interested In Laser Eye Surgery
Firstly, you should check with your eye doctor to confirm that laser eye surgery is something that is going to do good to you. While there are numerous different surgeries that you might be able to try, there are simply some kinds of eyesight problems that laser eye surgery isn't going to be able to help with. Your doctor is going to be able to tell you what kinds of things will work for you and what kinds of things will not work for you.
If your doctor has told you that laser eye surgery might be able to assist you, another thing that you should remember is to find out whether or not your eyesight has stopped changing or if it is still getting worse. If you know that your eyesight has not altered for several years, there is a good chance that it is not going to get much worse. However, if your eyesight is still fluctuating, you may have to get glasses or contacts again later on down the line after doing the operation. You may also find yourself with more eye problems than you had in the first place.
If you know that your eyesight has stopped changing, then laser eye surgery may be a good alternative for you. For safety reasons, one eye is done at a time in case there are any complications during and after the surgery. However, once the surgery is completed successfully, you are going to be able to see clearly without the help of glasses or contact lenses. This is the desirable prize of going through the trouble of having a laser eye surgery. It ends up being worth it for many people.
The Secret Of Finding A Good Laser Eye Surgeon
The secret of finding a good laser eye surgeon is to ask questions. A prospective patient can ask all of the questions here and the surgeon should be able to reply them all. When you first talk to a laser eye correction surgery professional, you should have a list of questions ready to ask. Here are some of the questions you can ask your potential surgeon:
The first thing you should inquire is if you are a good candidate for laser eye surgery. As discussed above, not everyone can benefit from laser eye correction surgery.
Next, you should query about the doctor's level of experience and how much he or she has done in the area of lasik eye surgery. Surgeons apparently have different levels of experience in varying levels of eye surgeries, so this will be good to know.
It follows that it would also be prudent to know what other areas the surgeon is particularly experienced in. If he/she has performed many kinds of laser eye surgeries, then he/she has seen many cases and should be a good choice for you.
You will also want to find out how much this laser eye surgery is going to cost. Do not get the idea that the cheapest surgeon will make you blind. Sometimes, cheap surgeons are good because the fact that they are cheap means they may have many clients and thus experiences. Eventually, your most important deciding factor is the experience. Look at a doctor's credentials and experience to establish if he/she is the right preference for you. Ask all of your questions at a consultation to get a better understanding of the procedure and you will be better fit to make a choice. However, if you are going to cheaper clinic, make sure that the clinic is using the best and most advanced equipment around to fully make sure that your surgery is successful.
The next question you can ask your laser eye professional is what to do to get ready for the surgery, what to expect during and after the surgery. Find out if there is any downtime or if there is any delay in the results. You want to have as much information as you can so that you can decide if you are making the right decision.

5 Common Ways To Detoxify Your System For Better Health
By: Mike Hirn
There is no question that toxins are more prevalent in today's world than ever before. We are adding toxins to our bodies on a daily basis. It is important to find a safe way to eliminate these harmful chemicals as quickly as we are adding them. Fortunately there are several methods that are effective.
Butylparaben, Benzene, Bentonite, BHA, BHT, Bronopol and Benzoic Acid may not be in our everyday vocabulary but they are in our everyday environment. We are in daily contact with these chemicals and so many more. The bad news is that there are 25 other letters in the alphabet and just as many chemicals associated with each one.
Our bodies do a pretty good job of eliminating toxins by filtering them out in the kidneys and liver then eliminating them through sweat and our excretory system. The problem comes when these natural systems for detoxifying get overwhelmed and cannot keep up, creating toxic overload. The results can cause respiratory, digestive and many other general health problems.
Fortunately we can help our natural systems keep up with toxic overload by using: 1-A change in our diets 2-A system of Herbal body wraps 3-Eating special Herbal supplements 4-An established Cleansing plans 5-Regular use of a Sauna
1-Lots of people use a change in their diet to achieve detoxification. Some maintain these changes on a long-term basis but most use shorter more intense changes to try and cleanse their systems. The theory is that so much of the contamination is introduced through the foods we eat that this is a logical target for change. Most of us are familiar with the reputation highly processed foods have for their unhealthy content. Many are not also aware that "fresh foods" like fruits and vegetables often have pesticides, herbicides and even artificial hormones in or on them.
Fasting, eating organic whole foods, mainly vegetables, and drinking lots of fluids especially water, is a common basis for these detox diets. Periodic use of this cleansing method does "clean you out" but should be used cautiously over extended periods of time. There are many essential elements required in a healthy diet and some of those may be neglected if this type of restricted diet is overdone.
2-Clay, salts, water and other ingredients are often used to produce what is known as a body wrap designed for detoxification. Toxins are stored within the cells of the body. The idea is that the salts in a body wrap tend to draw water from the skin and in the process draw out dissolved poisons.
This generally involves lying in a room covered with this mixture for up to an hour or more. There is an easier way that I will discuss later on. It is important to drink plenty of fluids afterwards to replace the water that has been flushed from your body.
3-Taking pills to supply your body with herbal supplements is another common detoxifying technique. Upping the level of specific vitamins, antioxidants and minerals can benefit the way your body works. More efficient toxin removal through excretion can be a result. Altering the basic chemistry of your body can become a fairly tricky business. Having a thorough understanding of the complete process is important before you start down the path of using herbal supplements to cleanse your body. Consulting your doctor is always a good idea before starting a detoxification program but is especially important when choosing to detox with supplements. Internet research is helpful but no substitute for a doctors advise.
4-There are many spas that offer an established program designed to cleanse your body tissue of toxins. They vary greatly but many are a variation of a daily schedule including enemas, liquid supplements and cleansing drinks. The sequence is repeated throughout the day for a period of a week or more. This certainly takes a commitment and dedication on your part since it is usually "a live" in situation. Many but not all of these spas are reputable so some due diligence on your part is required to find an affordable situation that is right for you.
5-My favorite (probably because it is the easiest) involves using a sauna for detoxification. The excretory system is the main toxin removal system of the body. Most people immediately think about solid and liquid urine removal when they think about the excretory system. The fact is that the sweating process also removes surprisingly large amounts of fluid from your body. Increasing the sweating process efficiently increases the amount of fluids removed from the cell. The toxins are not only flushed out at the same time but the rate at which they are removed increases the more you sweat. This happens because the toxins become more concentrated as the cellular fluids are reduced. Saunas are an effective way to produce the excessive sweating that is required to draw out the toxins.
The fluids for typical sweating (mostly water) come from the liquids that surround the cells not the fluids within the cells. As the non-cellular fluids are eliminated it becomes necessary for the inner-cellular fluids to be removed and this is where the dissolves toxins are most concentrated. They are removed at the same time.
As you can see there are various methods that can be used to cleanse your body tissues of accumulated toxins. They all have good and bad points to consider. The question of which is most effective is important. The answer is that they can all be effective but only if actually put to use. It is a little like the question of which diet is best. Most can be effective if you actually follow them consistently but none of them will work if you don't. Unlike most of the methods mentioned above, consistent sauna use can become a ritual that you look forward to instead of a chore to be avoided. Today's technology has made it practical and affordable for almost anyone to get a home sauna. It is surprisingly inexpensive and easy to set up a sauna at home. Kits or complete units can even be ordered online and delivered right to your doorstep.

Best Vitamins And Herbs For Fighting Infections And Diseases
by: Darrell Miller
People have been using herbs to fight infection since time immemorial, although it was not until Linus Pauling’s 1970 book promoted the view that adults should take 1g of vitamin C a day to avoid the common cold that vitamin supplements were used to fight specific ailments. The book created a storm when published and was responsible far a massive increase in sales of vitamin C supplements.
This view has since been disputed by many medical people, but Joe Public still uses vitamin C supplements to ward off a cold and treat one. The majority believe that the supplement is effective, so perhaps more work is needed on this use for the vitamin. What is known is that vitamin C is a very strong antioxidant, and large doses of it can only help the body to fight the ravages of free radicals.
Today, the use of herbal remedies and vitamins to fight infections is commonplace, and the science behind their use is much better understood. Take vitamins for instance. Vitamin C, again, although promoted to avoid the common cold, is not only a strong antioxidant as previously stressed, but also has antiviral properties and is though to be useful in the prevention of viral infections. It is a very versatile vitamin, and a widely used one.
Vitamin A, and its relatives the carotenoids, are important parts of the immune system that help mucous membranes resist microbiological attack. There is generally sufficient vitamin A in a normal diet, however, so that supplementation is rarely needed, and can even have an adverse effect, especially with young children. It is primarily in developing countries that vitamin A supplements are most commonly needed, and the vitamin has been found to reduce the mortality rate through measles infections.
It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that children with measles should be initially be given a high dose of vitamin A, even in developed countries, but otherwise such a supplement is rarely recommended for children. The two big killers in Third World countries are measles and pneumonia, but unfortunately vitamin A does not appear to have an effect on pneumonia. It is still a huge killer disease.
Vitamin D, long considered the Cinderella of the vitamin world, is now believed to be effective in fighting TB, influenza and HIV as well as colon cancer and the bone problems it has long been associated with. The problem with this vitamin is that it is not found in many foods, and relies on sunlight for its synthesis in the body. Recent studies have found it to clearly be associated with the immune system, to help to regulate the growth of body cells and to play an active part in the human metabolism. The argument for a vitamin D supplement, long been regarded as unnecessary, has suddenly been turned on its head. Vitamin D is now one of the chief vitamins and is under very extensive ongoing study.
Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that has recently been found to reduce the incidence of colds and upper respiratory tract infections in older people by strengthening the body cells. Although a vitamin E supplement has hitherto been regarded as unnecessary, it now being seen as an advantage, especially in the elderly, and it also strengthens cells. Sales of vitamin E are now increasing, perhaps due to the general increase in life expectancy in the western world.
Folic acid is another vitamin that has recently found favor, and is known to protect developing fetuses from spina bifida and other neural tube defects. It is known to prevent the formation of diseases in unborn children, and a deficiency can cause a number of mental diseases including schizophrenia. In spite of this, it is still the most common vitamin deficiency in the world, and folic acid supplements are highly recommended, especially to women of childbearing age, and to pregnant women.
In addition to vitamins, many herbs have specific properties that make them ideal for fighting infections and disease. In fact there is currently an explosion in the scientific study of the medical basis for this use of many herbs. One of the most frequently used is liquorice, and the scientific basis for the use of this plant in medicine has been proved and accepted beyond doubt.
Liquorice root is still one of the most used and most important herbs in Chinese medicine, and is used extensively for urinary and digestive tract problems. It has a very wide range of uses, including the treatment of TB and diabetes as well as the more mundane coughs and sore throats.
Garlic has strong antibiotic properties, and in addition to warding off vampires the herb can be used to fight a wide variety of bacterial infections. The complex polysaccharides found in the herb astragalus boost the immune system, and astragalus is very useful in the event of bacterial infections. A supplement can be used for a number of different infections. The same is true of echinacea, native to North America, and whose proven applications are for sore throats and the common cold. A lot of nonsense has been written about echinacea, but these uses are proven.
Another application for echinacea and garlic is in the treatment of infections such as abscesses and boils. An aloe vera poultice is also effective in drawing and soothing an abscess. Bilberry can also be used for such infections. If the boil or abscess is large, an application of vitamin E oil can help to reduce the scarring. Vitamin E is excellent for the skin, and it aids healing by preventing infection.
If you have a urinary infection, dandelion is an excellent treatment. It is also a diuretic, and gives your whole water works a great clean out. It is also a useful herbal treatment for hepatitis, and the milk from the stems is a good cure for warts. Apply it thrice daily until the wart disappears. You can make a dandelion tea by infusing the leaves or the roots.
The majority of modern medical investigation into the uses of vitamins and herbs in fighting infections is spent on ratifying beliefs, and determining the scientific basis for them. It is doubtful if new uses for herbs are being researched, but what is undoubtedly being done is work on the synthesis of the active ingredients. The cost of herbal remedies could then perhaps be reduced.

It’s Important To Take Your Vitamins Regularly
by: Darrell Miller
It is important to take your vitamins regularly because the beneficial effect of vitamins on your body builds up over a period time, and is not a short-term ‘fix’. However, prior to examining the benefits of regular vitamin intake, let’s have a look at why they are an essential part of our nutritional requirements.
Many people know that vitamins are necessary without understanding what they really are. Vitamins are organic compounds that are essential for regulating the way that the body works. Some of the functions that could not take place effectively without them are reproduction, cell division, digestion, blood clotting, energy production, etc, etc.
The chemical processes of life cannot take place without the presence of vitamins to help them. Some of these are very complex organic chemicals, which is why they are given letters rather than names. Vitamins cannot be produced within the body, and have to be taken in through eating foods in which they occur naturally, or through supplementation.
If you do not maintain a properly balanced diet, then you will not take in the full range of vitamins required by a healthy body. There are at least 13 known vitamins, and every one is essential for a healthy life and to produce the energy needed by some sections of society. The physically challenged, for example, required more energy than normal in order to move around in a wheelchair or to use crutches.
The elderly, whose diets can sometimes be relatively poor, require a balanced vitamin intake to be able to withstand the rigors of advancing years, and everybody needs vitamins simply to remain alive and enjoy a longer life. Without them our life processes slow down, and our bodies are subject to a range of illnesses and conditions. Although vitamins do not provide energy, they allow the body to process foods and create energy.
Pregnant women need a balanced vitamin intake for a healthy fetus and all women of child-bearing age should have a good intake of folic acid . People who drink a lot, especially alcohol, should also take a supplement since they will tend to wash out the water soluble vitamins. Most people fail to maintain a diet that is balanced in respect of its vitamin intake which is why supplementation is so important.
However, it is not good enough just to take vitamin supplements now and again: that does not have the required effect of maintaining a constant satisfactory level within the body. A REGULAR vitamin intake is necessary for the full benefit of supplements to be obtained. Vitamins are not like medicines, to be taken only when you are ill. They must be taken constantly, either in natural food or as supplements.
Modern food processing techniques, including over-cooking, can destroy or deplete some of the natural vitamin content of many foodstuffs. Vitamin C, for example, is leached out of vegetables by boiling water and destroyed by the heat of cooking. Regular supplementing of your diet with vitamins is becoming increasingly necessary to ensure that your intake of these essential substances is constantly maintained at a satisfactory level.
If you need to know more about vitamins and what supplements are available, then you should carry out some online research. Websites such as vitanetonline can give you more information and make some suggestions as to how to begin taking supplements. Generally, however, a good way to start ensuring that you are maintaining the correct vitamin level is to begin with a multivitamin supplement.
This will keep your vitamin intake at a good level while you have time to study your diet, and then decide what specific supplementation is necessary. For example, if you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables but no dairy products, you might need no more than a Vitamin B12 supplement that is available naturally only from meats, fish and dairy products. Some vitamins are water soluble, and not stored by the body. They have to be ingested every day, so if the correct foods are not eaten daily then supplements will be necessary.
The water soluble vitamins are Vitamin C and the B complex vitamins. However, while a regular intake of these is required, that might not be true of the fat soluble vitamins that are stored in the body and used when required. While a sufficient supply of these is recommended, an excess is not. That is why carefully formulated multivitamin supplements are preferred to individual vitamins if you are unsure about what you need or have not been recommended a specific supplement by a physician or dietician.
Because vitamins are ‘used’ by the body, they have to be replaced on a regular basis. In olden days, sailors were given limes to provide the vitamin C that prevented scurvy. This was effective, but once they ran out of limes the scurvy returned. This is true of vitamins today. You must take them regularly in order to replace them as they are used and depleted.
Properly formulated multivitamin supplements take the average life of vitamins in the body into consideration. They allow for the fact that the water soluble vitamins are washed out of the body but that fat soluble ones are stored until required. Their benefit is that you do not have to worry about taking individual supplements at varying periods of time, but simply take the recommended dose at the recommended times.
If you fail to take your supplements regularly, the chemical processes within your body will slow down. You might start to feel ill effects, or you might not be aware of the fact that your metabolism is slowing since the condition could affect your brain cells. Vitamin deficiencies take many forms and are not always noticeable. Long term deficiencies sometimes only become apparent as one ages.
However, in the 21st century it is unlikely that anybody eating a reasonable diet would suffer significantly, though nutritional experts maintain that all adults can benefit from a regular top-up of vitamin supplements. Especially those who live on a diet of burgers and chili dogs! For you it is particularly important to take your vitamins regularly!

Cut the Caffeine

By: Jim Smylie
For many of us, the average morning is akin to being an extra in a zombie movie. Millions of people stumble to work each day with stiff muscles, bleary eyes, and heavy breathing, all punctuated by low, repeating moans.
“Coffeeeeee…”
Once you get that first cup of coffee, the dull-grey world explodes into brilliant color (think office cubicles housing three Bollywood musicals at once) and we become Superman. Alert! Active! Blessedly awake! Unfortunately, a few ticks of the hour hand later we’re once again the Living Dead. The chair’s pushed back, the coffee pot is hit, and the cycle repeats itself.
Way too much of a good thing?
Caffeine, though something of a wonder drug, is getting abused. Taken in moderation, particularly in things like dark chocolate or black coffee, it can have health benefits. ‘Moderation,’ however, becomes an unfamiliar concept when you’re drinking a dozen cups of coffee a day. High blood pressure, anxiety, increased risk for cardiovascular disease, and increased risk of ulcers are a few of the problems associated with overconsumption.
The problem is, we need our caffeine; two thirds of Americans simply don’t get enough sleep, according to the National Sleep Foundation. For many, coffee won’t cut it, leading to increased consumption of energy drinks like Red Bull or the charmingly-named Cocaine. And the stuff is showing up where you’d least expect it: mints, chewing gum, donuts.
But there are plenty of strategies you can use to remain energized while avoiding excessive caffeine. It takes a little more effort than buying that mocha or opening that Coke, but you’re guaranteed to feel better than ever before.
Eat breakfast.
Yes, it’s a cliché, but breakfast remains the most important part of your day. Not only will a proper meal in the A.M. (not a chocolate bar and some soda pop) energize you for hours, it’ll help you keep your weight down—the body uses nutrients less efficiently when it wakes up, meaning you’ll retain fewer unneeded calories by having that food earlier in the day.
Ideal breakfast foods include oatmeal, high-fiber cereals, veggies, and whole-wheat toast. Because they contain so much fiber, it takes you longer to process the sugars inside, meaning your body gets a slow, steady flow of energy instead of one tidal wave. One massive jolt of caffeine will pep you up, sure, but once it wears off you’re left worse than when you started.
Eat when you’re hungry.
Three square meals a day may be neater on a schedule, but it sure ain’t healthier. Don’t be afraid of snacking between meals! Doing this maintains a reasonable amount of energy all day long. As an added bonus, you may lose some weight; counterintuitive as that sounds, spreading out your caloric intake means you’re less likely to overeat during “big” meals.
Bear in mind, this does not mean you should be munching down potato chips and cookies! What you snack on is just as important as the snacking itself.
Good snacks:
Fruit is loaded with energizing fructose, as well as healthy fiber and plenty of antioxidants. An apple with some peanut butter or a cool bunch of grapes can quickly take the place of that midday candy bar, and a yogurt-based fruit smoothie makes a great replacement for your three cans of soda.
Almonds and other nuts are superb snacks as well—they’re filling, crunchy, and bursting with omega-3 (that’s the fat we actually should eat). Yogurt and other low-fat dairy foods, too, provide much needed energy along with nutrients necessary to maintain your metabolism and keep your body healthy.
Eat these foods throughout the day, never overeating (gorging yourself leads to fatigue, like when you nod off at Thanksgiving). In addition, consider foods high in iron like steak once or twice a week; iron is important for energy, too. It’s okay to drink a cup or two of coffee along with all this, but if you find yourself downing seven hugelarge cups of espresso each day: cut back. And finally, most importantly…
Sleep.
Even with new wonder-drugs like Modafinil—which can keep a person up for 40 hours straight with no side-effects—sleep experts reiterate there is no substitute for a full night’s rest. The brain needs it, the body needs it, your very soul needs it. We aren’t machines; no matter what we put into our bodies to keep them running, if we don’t have sleep to go along with it we’ll eventually pay dearly.
So next time you reach for your coffee mug, consider having some fruit instead—and get some sleep once you get home from work!

TCA For Genital Works - Studies Say It Works
by Judy Wellsworth
TCA, or trichloracetic acid, works against genital warts. That's according to new studies by the Mayo Clinic. TCA destroys proteins in the wart's cells, keeping them from staying alive. This is great news for those who suffer from genital warts. But, you still have to have your doctor do it; TCA can kill the cells too if your physician isn't careful. The way TCA works is that it is applied to the warts. It's a clear liquid, and the doctor paints it on. The warts respond by turning white, shrinking and eventually disappearing. This process is not as quick as it sounds. In most cases, it requires weekly trips to the doctor, and it is usually weeks before the warts are gone. And, it should be remembered that TCA is tough stuff; it can hurt your skin if not applied correctly.
The treatment is usually once a week. There is usually a slight stinging when the agent is first applied. Other than irritating the skin, TCA can't do any harm to the rest of your body. A little discomfort is the worst it will do. But, if applied to strongly, it can cause mild ulcers in the layers of skin underneath.
There is no cure for genital warts, but TCA relieves sufferings and finished outbreaks among 60% of those who take this method of treatment.
There are different kinds of warts, and different treatments are called for. TCA works against soft, wet, non-keratinized. If you have clusters of warts over a large portion of skin, TCA is probably not a good option because of the discomfort when it is applied. Have your doctor assess your warts and decide on the best course of treatment.
While you are being treated with TCA, let your doctor do the work. Make sure to make all of your appointments. Don't disappear when the warts start to. In cases where TCA is ineffective, it is often because the patient quit going for treatment when the warts were no longer visible.
TCA treatment works best when there are only a few warts and they are small. Not getting treated in a timely manner may result in the warts spreading. Then, it's a harder problem to deal with. The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends a variety of treatments for most outbreaks of genital warts.
Lots of physicians prefer to use TCA along with other treatments. This approach is most effective in clearing up a wart outbreak. If you find that you have genital warts, talk to your doctor immediately and let them decide which treatment is best for you.

Gynecomastia Plastic Surgery - Is It The Right Thing To Do?
By:John Davenport
Gynecomastia is a cosmetic condition which afflicts a great part of the male population. In fact, experts state that anywhere between 30-40% of men suffer from Gynecomastia to a certain degree.
Gynecomastia is manifested by deposits of excess fat in the male chest area. This makes the male chest to appear fatty and bloated and often causes the nipples to look puffy and distorted. In many cases, Gynecomastia, which is commonly known as man boobs, is so pronounced that the male chest appears similar to feminine breasts. While this doesn't pose any known health risks, it ruins the self-esteem of men who have them. The reason is very simple: most women find man boobs to be far from attractive.
One of the more popular treatments to this problem is Gynecomastia plastic surgery. In this surgery, the excess fat is removed from the male chest by liposuction and the chest is surgically reshaped to appear flatter. This surgery is performed by a plastic surgeon.
If done correctly, this surgery can have excellent results. But is it advisable?
In my view, the answer is a flat NO!
Here are the main reasons :
1. This surgery is very expensive, usually 5,000$ or more.
2. This surgery has many risks, such as leaving scars on your chest, dents on your chest, discoloration and asymmetry between the two sides of the chest.
3. It involves a painful and long period of recovery.
4. There are a number of alternative treatments which cost a fraction of what this surgery does and have remarkable results.
All things considered, surgery may be the way to go, but only after you've tried the other Gynecomastia treatments available.

How To Heal A Cold Sore In Half Thetime
by: Denny Bodoh
Knowing how to heal a cold sore quickly could be critically important if you have an important event in the near future.
There is no good time to have a cold sore. But why do cold sores always seem to happen at the very worst possible time?
Most often, cold sores occur because of physical or mental stress. Anxiety about an upcoming wedding, job interview, or other special event in your life will create stress. This stress will affect your pH balance, your hormones, and your immune system. Quite often illnesses such as cold and flu will also trigger a cold sore.
The herpes virus has an early warning system because it lives in your nerve cells. It can sense the slightest change in your temperature, stress levels, immune strength, and pH balance. When the conditions are favorable, the virus will head to the surface along your nerve fibers. Once at the surface, it will create new virus through its replication procedure thus producing the cold sore blister.
Your body knows how to heal a cold sore and will do so without any additional help or expensive cold sore treatment. Provided you do not get a secondary bacterial infection, the duration of your cold sore could be three to four weeks. If you are like me, you do not want to suffer that long. The quicker you heal your cold sore, the sooner you can get on with your life.
The cold sore virus needs three things to successfully replicate.
1. The cold sore virus needs plenty of arginine in the cell. Arginine is a protein that is a critical building block for creating new herpes viruses. Lysine, another protein, has proven helpful in healing and preventing cold sores. Lysine does this by replacing some of the arginine in the cells, thus reducing or preventing the cells ability to create clones of the virus.
Basically, if the herpes virus gets to the surface and cannot find enough arginine in the cells, it often retreats. Many folks eat high lysine foods prior to or during a cold sore event, and avoid high arginine foods. For many folks, healing cold sores fast has been as simple as taking 1,000 milligrams to 3,000 milligrams of lysine in capsule supplements during an outbreak.
High lysine foods to eat are most meats and dairy products. Cheese, milk and yogurt are excellent. High arginine foods to avoid would be nuts, seeds, grains, and chocolate. You need to find your own personal balance here for healing cold sores.
2. The cold sore virus also needs a warm, moist environment. Applying ice as soon as you feel that first tingle or itch will greatly reduce or delay the cold sore. Delaying the cold sore just a few days can get you through that important event. Any cold object will do - such as a can of Coke. The quicker, the better.
3. The herpes virus prefers an acid environment. When in tip-top health, your pH balance should be around 7.4, which is slightly alkaline. When it drops below 7 on the pH scale, then your system is turning acid. Any stress, flu, colds, or too much sun will cause your body to move toward the acid side of normal.
Avoid eating acid foods, such as tomatoes, citrus, carbonated soda or anything with vinegar if it will touch the cold sore area. You want nothing acid around that sore. Following this rule alone for healing a cold sore, along with continual cleaning of the wound with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, could cut your cold sore healing duration by 50%.
You are unique and you must take what works for others and fine tune it for your particular needs. Hopefully, now that you are armed with the knowledge of what works for others, you now have a better idea on how to heal a cold sore.

Easy Heart-Rate Trick Gets You Fit - and Skinny Too!

Howard McGarity
Every evening in the gym, the ladies (and a few guys) can be found working purposefully on bikes, treadmills and elliptical trainers. The whir of machinery fills the air and determination is fired by visions of losing weight and getting in really good shape.
Some casually browse the pages of old magazines, read the latest thriller or chat with friends as they dutifully put in their "forty five minutes" of "slow and steady". They are well-intentioned but clueless. I question the results of their efforts but decide it is unwise to offer unsolicited advice.
One lady, however, is focused and pays attention to what she is doing. She periodically refers to the treadmill's glowing red display and adjusts her pace accordingly. Good for her! She is monitoring her heart rate.
What she knows, that the others don't know, is that your Heart Rate is a dead accurate indicator of just how hard your body is working. This is the best way to make sure that you are exercising vigorously enough to improve your fitness level but not so hard as to overexert yourself.
This is also a great way to lose weight and get really fit in the shortest amount of time. What you have to do is exercise at the correct intensity within an optimal range. This is your Target Heart Rate (THR) which is expressed as a percentage of your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR).
You can calculate your personal Target Heart Rate, but this gets a bit tricky. You have to know your Resting Heart Rate (RHR) and plug it into a couple of formulas: (MHR – RHR X (50% - 80%) + RHR = THR) where (Age – 220 = MHR).
You also have to know how long to exercise, at which point in the optimal range (50% to 80%) and you have to monitor your heart rate while you are working out. There are charts that estimate your THR for you but their accuracy can vary, up or down, by as much as ten percent.
Confused? Don't be. Dump the math and take a low-tech approach. You already have a simple, built-in heart rate monitor that is perfectly calibrated to your body.
And, you already know how to use it because it's as simple as watching your breathing. Your respiration rate is how you monitor the intensity level of your exercise and it relates very closely to your actual Heart Rate. You can use this method with any piece of gym equipment and while walking or jogging outdoors.
WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER is that, as your workout progresses, you may exercise at any one of three levels or zones. I will describe each zone and relate Heart Rate to how hard you will be breathing.
ZONE 1. (50% - 65% OF MHR) Breathing is normal at this level and you can easily carry on a conversation with a workout partner. This is your warm-up and cool-down zone which will do little to get you fit unless you are very overweight, very out of shape or have been ill.
ZONE 2. (65% – 80% OF MHR) Your breathing becomes somewhat to very noticeable. This is your training zone where you will do most of your work, develop cardiovascular fitness and burn calories. At the lower end of the range (65%), you will be able to speak to a partner easily but your speech is somewhat broken as you deliver phrases between breaths. At the top end (80%) you will be breathing very hard. Though conversation is possible, breathing may be your priority.
ZONE 3. (ABOVE 80% OF MHR) Entering zone three, you begin panting and gasping for breath. This level can be hazardous for many of us and is best reserved for competitive athletes.
TO GET FIT IN THE SHORTEST AMOUNT OF TIME, DO THIS:
1. Tell your doctor that you are going to begin exercising at a level where you will be breathing vigorously. Ask if, based on your physical condition, you should limit your effort and if so, to what level.
2. Warm up at a conversational pace and then increase your speed or intensity level to 70% - 75% of MHR (breathing strongly) so that after about five minutes you feel fatigue setting in. Back off and catch your breath at 65% of MHR or below.
3. Now really pick up the pace (fit walkers find a hill) and push to 75% to 80% of MHR (breathing vigorously). Hold it there, from one to three minutes, until your body is asking for a break and then slow down to 60% of MHR, or below, until you recover.
Repeat, gradually increasing the number, duration and intensity of intervals as you are able. If you challenge yourself to work hard your workout should, at most, take no longer than thirty minutes.
Cool down and have a refreshing drink of water. These interval workouts, using your breath to gauge intensity will work very effectively to burn calories and get you in shape.
And always remember "Be Strong…. Be Lean

Find Out How To Lose 100 Pounds Easily Without Weight Loss Pills And Potions
by: Rika Susan
You are staring at your umpteenth bland plate of salad or bowl of cabbage soup, while hubby and the kids tuck greedily into steaming, mouth-watering dinners. Does this sound familiar? How about the frustration of seeing the pounds you have just lost, reappearing overnight accompanied by a bunch of unwelcome friends? What if you could discover how to lose 100 pounds in one year and keep it off forever, without once taking a peek at a diet book or popping a weight loss pill? These 9 tips are all you need for a running start.
1. Learning The Right Moves
Every extra bit of activity helps you to lose weight and revs up your metabolism. Get going now! You don't necessarily need an expensive gym membership, an elliptical cross trainer or a stair climber. Why not try a dancing, yoga or pilates class? Or what about a swimming session, a brisk walk or a fun bicycle ride? Any activity is acceptable. Just choose something you will enjoy doing, otherwise you will soon be coming up with excuses to skip it. Exercise for half an hour daily, five times a week and you will be burning roughly 98,800 calories extra every year (around 380 calories per day). The calories burned will vary according to your body weight, the workout you opt for, and the level of intensity. This vital step will make up to 28 pounds disappear over a period of a year.
2. Stop Sneaking Sugar
Are you dumping teaspoon after teaspoon of sugar into your beverages without thinking? By reducing your sugar intake by one teaspoon in three cups of tea or coffee per day, you will save 75 calories daily. This adds up to 27,375 calories every year, or around 8 pounds of body weight. Your taste buds will soon adjust. In fact, within a week or two, you will begin to detest overly sweet tea and coffee.
3. Hop From Whole Milk To Skim Milk
While on the subject of tea and coffee: Did you know that whole milk has a fat content of 4%, whereas skim milk comes with less than 0.5% fat? This reduces one cup of skim milk's calorie count to 86, compared to whole milk's 149 calories. Switching to a cup of skim milk a day will reduce your calorie intake with 60 per day. In one year, this is a further 22,000 unnecessary calories. This translates into 6 pounds weight-wise.
4. Feast On Fat-Free Tubs Rather Than Full-Fat Yogurt
Why not exchange the 6 ounces of full-fat yogurt for 6 ounces of the fat-free variation? This will take away another 100 calories every single day, without a noticeable change in taste. Taken over a year, the count is a whopping 36,500 calories. There goes yet another 10 pounds of flab.
5. Minimize The Mayonnaise
You don't have to cut this delicacy out completely. Just be somewhat less generous with it. If you can reduce your daily intake by 1 tablespoon, you will bank another 90 calories a day, or an astonishing 32,800 calories per year. Who's game for dropping another 9 pounds of body weight? All this while you still indulge in your regular, healthy recipes.
6. Turn Wine Into Water
Say no to 4 fluid ounces or roughly 120 milliliters of wine a day, and you will reduce your diet and nutrition plan's calories by 100 a day. Tot these up and you reach 36,500 calories per year. That is another fairly easy to maintain 10 pounds in one year. Learn to sip water instead.
7. Say No To Sugar-Laden Soda
While on the subject of beverages, you may want to take a look at those cans of sweetened soda guzzled down without a thought. A single 12 ounce (355ml) serving daily comes at a yearly calorie cost of 65,700! Breaking this habit will take care of 18 pounds of flab and fat. In fact, these numbers are likely to be even better, as many servings these days are more in the 20 ounce or 42 ounce region. Measure out 250 cups of sugar, and you will see what you or your kids gulp down in a year. Is that a scary thought, or what?
In addition to the weight you will lose, your digestive system is likely to function more efficiently. You will also have a less acidic body, making your insides less of a breeding ground for ailments. Your wellbeing will improve drastically once your body's PH gets into a more normal range. You will also support your dentist less regularly. Don't worry, you won't die of thirst. How about drinking some ordinary water, fresh veggie juice, or one of the refreshing, unsweetened iced teas on the market? You body will see this as much needed health news.
8. Have A Spread With Low-Sugar Jam
Another simple to implement change is to swop your twice-a-day two teaspoons of sweetened jam or preserves for one of the tasty low-sugar alternatives. This trims another 64 calories a day, or 23,360 calories yearly. Do you choose a jam jar body, or 7 pounds less in the flab department?
9. Opt For Popcorn Pleasure
Every time you crunch through one small bag (1 ounce or 28 grams) of potato chips, you add 150 calories, with loads of fat and no fibre. In contrast, 1 cup of air popped Sour Cream & Chives popcorn is fibre-rich and fat-free and weighs in at only 50 calories. This is another massive saving of 100 calories. If this swop happens just 3 times a week, you have taken off 15,600 calories in a year, or 4,5 pounds.
None of these changes are huge, but the results can be life-changing. Best of all, they can be sustained without hardship. By taking a look at what you eat, you should be able to dream up at least another 10 tips to cut calories. By doing so, you will be creating your own easy-to-manage weight loss diet plan. You will also be setting a sensible example for your kids, demonstrating that the diet-treadmill isn't the one they should be trying out.
So, stop doing the diet. Just do the math. Implement a few smart, sensible choices and you will have a workable, long-term weight loss plan.

New Hope for Female Balding
by Anthony Pearce RN
Australian Trichologist* Tony Pearce is promising new hope - and confidence - to thousands of women afflicted with 'genetic' balding. Through his own research, experience, and collaboration with two of Australia leading researchers - Mr. Pearce has identified two forms of so-called pattern hair loss in women.True genetically inherited female androgenic alopecia is an autosomal recessive hereditary trait affecting numbers of women within an extended family. The woman will recount a family history of her mother, grandmother/s, sisters, aunts or female cousins with a comparable thinning hair problem. These women tend to exhibit the condition after puberty or in their early twenties - particularly following childbirth.
Mr. Pearce has found the majority of women in the 30-50 years age group present with what he has termed 'acquired pattern alopecia'. These women usually reveal a dual picture of female pattern thinning with an underlying diffuse ('all over') hair loss.
Acquired pattern alopecia occurs in susceptible women due to those perennial nemeses - insufficient iron and low metabolic (thyroid gland) activity.
Symptoms of low metabolic activity are familiar to many women: fatigue, thinning hair density, weight gain - particularly around the central abdominal area and thighs; 'foggy' thinking or poor memory, continuously-cold hands and feet, diminished sex drive, and disturbed sleep.
When iron levels are too low to 'furnace' mitochondrial ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate) formation, a compensatory response will increase testosterone (TT) production which is then utilised as an alternate energy source for the body. Mitochondria are the 'power houses' of cells from which we formed. Metabolic activity and liver detoxification pathways are ATP dependant, whilst other active cells such as those found in muscle and kidneys, consume ATP at a very high rate.
Some of this 'free' Testosterone is up-converted from weaker male hormones (produced in the adrenal glands) to DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which has a miniaturising influence on 'androgen-sensitive' hair follicles across the top of the scalp. Male hormones are collectively known androgens.
Increased facial/body hair (hypertrichosis) often accompanies female pattern thinning because these follicles are stimulated in the presence of male hormone. Alterations of mood are also not uncommon - presenting as increased aggressiveness, impatience, intolerance, or a low level agitated anxiety.
Mr. Pearce's mentor on hormonal issues - Dr. John Lee - found iron storage levels should be at least 125ug/L to generate sufficient quality ATP. Dr. Lee is recognised as one of Australia's most prolific thyroid researchers.
The usual reference range for iron storage (termed 'ferritin') is 20-300ug/L**, but women of child-bearing age often reveal levels of only 10-60ug/L - or less.
"Lack of available iron to 'drive' a woman's body compounds her hair loss problems" says Mr. Pearce, "for in terms of nutrient supply the hair is a non-essential tissue, and the body will divert iron and other nutrients away from the hair to supply more vital tissues".
The wonderful news for women is acquired pattern thinning is totally manageable if not potentially curable! The answer lies not in medicating with unpredictable anti-male hormone drugs or contraceptives, but in raising iron levels and metabolic activity. Aside from the improvements in hair quality and density, a woman's 'quality of life' will also return as she gains greater energy, hormone balance, is able to maintain her weight, as well as other numerous positive outcomes.

Simple Tips for Fibromyalgia Sufferers Trying to Claim Disability

By:Hailey Harris
At the moment of writing this article, there is not an entry in the Social Security Disability Listing for Impairment for the condition Fibromyalgia. Nor is there for its other names commonly used such as fibromyositis or Myofacial Pain Syndrome. Getting denied of claims is quite common ground for Fibromyalgia patients, but this doesn't have to be the case.
There is hope for the fibromyalgia patient who needs to claim disability. Many fellow sufferers have gone on to win their cases, you likewise can. The trick is to pursue the claim of disability through the appeal process.
After a person files at the Social Security Office, the case is transferred to DDS, an agency responsible for making the decisions on Disability. Once it is in this agency, the claim is assigned to a specialist who then makes the determination to approve or decline the disability claim.
So why is it so hard to get approved for disability when fibromyalgia is so disabling? Well, the reasons are many. SSD will generally give very little weight to this condition because the condition is not well understood. Your chances get even less when there is not another condition that is accompanying it such as arthritis or some degenerative disease.
Part of the problem is also that the causes are not fully understood and symptoms can range from mild to severe, from one patient to the next. This is why it helps if Fibromyalgia is diagnosed in conjunction with another diagnosis. This is because Fibromyalgia will be seen more legitimately and logical if it is an extension of another "more real" diagnosis.
Another factor is who makes the diagnosis. A diagnosis coming from a Rheumatologist will hold much more weight than if made by a family practitioner or an internist. The label of a specialist holds more umph when it comes to decision time.
This, of course, is no fault of the fibromyalgia sufferer, but there are some tips you can follow to increase your chances of winning your case. The chances of winning are improving as more information about fibromyalgia comes out. So let's get to the tips for a winning case.
If you want to claim Fibromyalgia for your disability make sure that it has been diagnosed and is in your medical records. If a doctor merely mentions fibromyalgia as a possibility without diagnosing it and charting it, you could be out of luck. So, make sure it is in your medical records.
Make sure that you have been diagnosed by a specialist. If your family doctor makes the diagnosis, have a specialist such as a rheumatologist give you the same diagnosis. Like previously mentioned, diagnosis from a specialist will hold more weight.
This sounds brutal but try not to be diagnosed with Fibromyalgia by a mental health worker. Psychiatrists and those in the mental health arena sometimes overdiagnose patients with Fibromyalgia and so it does not look valid to the SSD agents. If you are diagnosed by a mental health provider, make sure that you are also seen by a specialist such as a rheumatologist to validate the diagnosis.
Be informed and know what's in your records. Make copies of everything. It is well known that social security disability cases are decided on records. This holds true for all levels of administration that your case will flow through. By obtaining copies of your medical records before you apply, you will have an idea of how your case looks to the decision makers and help you know if you need to see another doctor before applying.
These simple tips will help you in your fight to win your disability case. Fibromyalgia disability cases can be won and the more that do the easier it will get for our fight.

Extagen - A Review Of The Male Enhancement Supplement Extagen
by Jason Cromwell
So you've come here looking for information on this pill you heard about called Extagen eh? Perhaps you want to try one of these so called penis enlargement products, or maybe you're just curious because you saw an infomercial. Well let me tell you a little bit about it then.First off this little tablet is great; it's gaining popularity in the penis enlargement/male enhancement industry, and getting good all around reviews. After doing a little research, I couldn't find one top 10 list it wasn't on. So what is making it so popular? One thing; results.
Doing some forum scavenging I found many reviews, on the Extagen site itself, and a few on some independent review sites as well. Ongoing results I found ranged from one inched gained, all the way to five inches gained. Not only was the size gained aspect that impressed me, it was the speed at which it was gained. Frequent results were .5 to one inch gained per month.
Besides the obvious benefits Extagen gives, it provides a bit more for your swallowing pleasure. It also helps those with a less than great libido. Which to me is always a plus, and a possible a plus, or curse, for the girlfriend.
The one big thing that lead me to buy Extagen, is the 120 day guarantee. So basically you can try this supplement for 4 full months, and get your money back if you are unpleased. Sounded great to me, and so far I'm not unpleased. Never found such a long trial period for a product like this.
Yea, good news is always, well... good; but are there anything bad things you should know about this pill? So far I haven't found any, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Always be cautious and thoroughly research a drug you consider buying.
One question that I come across often: is Extagen safe? While Extagen doesn't require a prescription, all drugs should be taken seriously. If you have any pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, or are taking any other drugs, you need to consult your doctor.
Here's a list of ingredients in Extagen, just in case you're being curious again:
L-Arginine, Yohimbe Extract (Pausinystalia yohimba)(bark), Maca Extract (Lepidium meyenii) (root), Catuaba, Muira Puama (aerial), Nettle (leaf), American Ginseng, Korean Ginseng, Siberian Ginseng, Zinc (oxide) Gluconate-200% DV
All in all, I love this product, and in the next few months will keep everyone informed with my own experience. If you're looking to buy a penis enlargement/male enhancement product, this is one I'd recommend.

Good Posture and Deep Breathing : Headaches

By: Alien
There are countless causes of headaches, but one that is often overlooked is posture. Take a minute to think about how you sit and stand. Now consider how your body feels when you are lying down. Do you experience aches or discomfort around your neck and back? Are there certain positions that seem to cause tension and trigger headaches for you?
Poor posture can result in muscle tension within and around the shoulder and neck joints and muscles. It can also exacerbate headache pain stemming from other causes. Some people find that during stressful situations, posture suffers and breathing patterns may become shallow and tensed. For this reason, it can be helpful to focus on correct posture alongside deep breathing. This will allow you to alleviate physical discomfort from a hunched over posture, for example, while also utilising deep breathing exercises to ease the bodily tension that can occur from anxiety and stress.
Consider How You Sit and Stand
It makes sense to maintain good posture by paying attention to the way you move your body. Poor posture can result in painful and chronic tension in your neck and back, leaving your muscles tensed and possibly triggering headaches. If you do find that your headaches are related to tension from poor posture, try to develop an awareness of how you hold your body during daily activities and in particular, how your sit and stand. Some of the ways you can encourage and maintain proper posture are:
* Avoid sitting or standing in one position for prolonged periods of time.
* Sit up straight and use any cushions or back supports for your lower back as needed.
* Consider a special headset if you spend a lot of time on the phone. Holding a telephone between your shoulder and head, especially for prolonged periods, can strain muscles and result in sharp tension headaches.
* Adjust computer screens so that your neck is not strained.
* When lifting anything, especially if it is quite heavy, lift with your arms and legs, not your back.
Mind Your Breathing
Breathing is obviously necessary for existence, yet many of us tend to take shallow, laboured breaths. Rarely do most people breathe deeply on a regular basis, but by consciously focusing on breathing and replacing superficial breathing with deeper breaths, you can better oxygenate your body, ease tension and help headache pain.
The effects of deep breathing can be quite powerful and it may feel unusual at first, as it is very different from the shallow superficial breathing most people perform.
Deep, slower breaths relax the nervous system and provide wonderful physical and emotional benefits for tension, which can really benefit headache pain management. It's also important to learn deep breathing as it assists in releasing tension. Try taking a slow deep breath in to a count of three, and focus on any issues in your life that are stressful and may be triggering headaches and muscle discomfort. Then, release very slowly to another count of three, and imagine your worries dissolving and releasing with your breath. The mind can be a powerful tool when used with deep breathing and may help alleviate headaches triggered by stress.
Bringing it all Together
Combining good posture with deep breathing exercises not only provides immediate stress and headache relief, but when performed consistently, it can prevent headaches as well. If you regularly work on deep breathing, you may find that eventually, you are breathing at a deeper level without conscious intent. What this means is that you have integrated more relaxed and deep breaths without having to 'force' yourself to breathe differently. Try to find a comfortable standing or sitting position that maintains correct posture and use deep breathing to release tension and stress. The benefit of these techniques is that they can be performed virtually anywhere and you can obtain immediate calming relief.
So the next time you experience a headache, consider your posture as a cause and check to be sure you are sitting, lying or standing comfortably. If you find your posture is poor, try adjusting it and also consider adding in deep breathing to provide headache relief.
In addition, you may want to consider visiting a physical therapist, who can help you to identify and correct any postural problems that may be triggering or causing your headaches. Keeping your spine and posture healthy as well as using deep breathing for relaxation is all part of headache management.
Poor posture can trigger headaches and when corrected, you may find head pain relief. Combining good posture with deep breathing exercises may also help your headaches.

Exercise Bikes - Good Option for Workout
By Sharon Mirin
Although we pride over the fact that human is the most developed of all species, we have to admit that we are also very lazy. Most of the time we blame our working environment for making our lifestyle so hectic, but in reality most of us are just too lazy to walk that extra mile or exercise. We have bad food habits, relying mostly on junk food. It is true that the job situation demands such a lifestyle, but can’t we be more responsible towards our own health?
People often find it impossible to jog or run outside in the parks. Maybe the lack of empty spaces and time constraints are the reasons for this. Therefore, the next option is to perform the same exercises in the closed doors. Bicycles are known not only as a means to travel but also for its good effect on health.
This feature, that bicycles are good for health is used in exercise bikes. Exercise bikes are used for workout of the whole body. They resemble an ordinary bicycle and perform the same function, only difference being that they are stationary. Even normal bicycles can be used as a stationary machine if they are placed on rollers or trainers.
How it works?
An exercise bike is provided with a seat where you can sit jus as in a normal bicycle. There are two pedals provided with a chain. You have to keep your feet on the pedals and start the circular motion. You can increase or decrease the resistance of the pedals at your will. The resistance is the key to developing muscle strength in the hips, calf and legs. Magnets, as well as friction are used to increase the resistance. Different people are advised to use different levels of resistance based on the training they need.
Benefits
In most multi-gyms, exercise bikes are must. They are very good for body “warm-up” or toning the body before one starts hardcore fitness training.
Exercise bikes help to tone up the muscles in the hips and in the calf region of the legs. Changing resistance levels help to build a better impact on the muscles. People who are suffering from obesity are generally advised to use exercise bikes. It helps to increase body metabolism and thus excess calories and fats are used up.
Exercise bikes also give a very good cardiovascular workout. In medical clinics and rehabilitation centers, patients are advised to workout on these bikes.
These are also low-impact machines. Low impact means that using these machines will not affect the bones of the body. Unlike in a treadmill where you have to run, jog or brisk walk, here you do not have to exert that much pressure on your feet. As a result, there is little possibility of your bones being jarred and in turn sustain damage.
Balancing is also easier in exercise bikes. It is very unlikely that a person on an exercise bike will lose balance. Even if he does, he will not be injured, unlike in a treadmill The new generation bikes provide recumbent seats. Prolong use in normal seats can damage the bones in the spinal chord. Besides, it can cause neck pain. Recumbent seats are thus more comfortable to be used.
So, what are you waiting for? Stop complaining about busy work schedule, stop cribbing over lack of parks, hit an exercise bike now and get a completely toned up body.
Exercise Bikes are great for abdominal workout, learn how you can start getting Great Abs and a flat muscular stomach at http://abdominalexercisezone.com

What Is Best For Me: Alternative Medicine Or Conventional Medicine?
Before we can understand the term: Alternative Medicine, it is necessary for us to first understand what Conventional Medicine is. Now Conventional Medicine is the current medical system of hospitals, doctors, medicine and chemists. In short, the general accepted health care system of any country. Doctors go to university, study for seven or more years, do an internship at a hospital, and then join or start a medical practice. When you are sick, you go to a doctor, who will prescribe some medicine, send you to a hospital, and/or do an operation.
Under the term: Alternative Medicine, we understand that it contains practices and medicine not recognized by conventional medicine. This is medicine that is not taught at universities and not available at hospitals. Sometimes they are used together with conventional medicine. We then call it: Complimentary Medicine. Alternative medicines include some of the following: acupuncture, Chinese medicine, chiropractic medicine, folk medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, faith healing, naturopathy, new age healing, massage, and music therapy.
Why do people visit Alternative Medicine practitioners?
Statistics show that more people visit Alternative Medicine Practitioners than visit Conventional Practitioners, preferring to pay out of their own pockets rather than use the healthcare system. Why is that? It is perhaps because Alternative Medicine is more traditional, for example, Ayurvedic medicine, which is traditional Indian medicine, has been practiced for the past five thousand years and traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced for over three thousand years. Alternative medicine believes in the body's natural ability to heal itself, and just helps in the process. In addition to that, most alternative medicines are natural and non toxic.
By further comparison we see that alternative medicine excels in the treatment of chronic diseases. It strives to find the cause for the disease and is also more focussed on prevention. Conventional medicine, by contrast, focuses on the relief of symptoms, and rarely looks at prevention or the cause of the disorder. Alternative medicine sees the person as unique and focuses on a holistic approach to healing him. Conventional medicine focuses on the organ that has a problem; hence you get cardiologists, neurologists, etc.
Alternative medicine concentrates on gentle, long term support. Contrast this with the aggressive intervention of conventional medicine.
Alternative medicine views the body as energy, and an imbalance in energy causes illness. Conventional medicine views the body as a mechanical system, and any illness is a chemical imbalance, to be treated with chemical drugs.
With alternative medicine, patients work with the practitioner in the healing process. Conventional medicine, by contrast, prefers that the patient takes a passive role in his healing.
Alternative medicine concentrates on gentle, herbal remedies, whereas conventional medicine is tied in with the whole pharmaceutical system which concentrates on making a profit.
Alternative or conventional medicine? Or a mixture of both? You decide.

Natural Teeth Whitening Systems
by Masni Rizal Mansor
Our teeth are basically pearl-white. Over the time, depending upon our habits and what we ingest, the color changes. If you would ever ask a dentist, he/she will tell you that he/she would have seen teeth in all colors possible, i.e. yellow (the most common), grey, black, green, among others. Each of the deviation in colors indicates some deviation done in the diet and habits. The doctors as well as the dentists are always using some type of chemicals on the teeth for whitening; for those who believe in naturopathy, good or bad there should be no chemicals used for whitening of the teeth. True, this is why this article will point towards natural therapy. Promoting the natural teeth whitening methods is an excellent idea, which can definitely result in pearl-white teeth without having too much trouble or chemical intervention.
Choices for You to Consider
1. Stop smoking instant - drinking coffee, tea and smoking are the major reasons for the discoloration of the teeth. Smoking in particular, is very harmful for the color of the teeth, as the nicotine is deposited on the teeth causing ugly grey-black stains all over. These stains are very stubborn and often would require the intervention of a dentist and laser whitening system to get back the original color, if at all. This interferes directly with the best natural teeth whitening systems you may like to introduce, preventing it from giving the best possible results.
2. Use home off-the-kitchen-shelf ingredients - some of the most popular natural teeth whitening ingredients in the leading brands of the teeth whitening products are bamboo powder, calcium carbonate and silica - these can be used separately or in combination to brush teeth for making them white. When and if you do so, please ensure that the powder is not abrasive. If the powder is abrasive, then discontinue its use immediately as this would harm the teeth's enamel.
3. Use the correct mouth hygiene - ordinarily you should brush your teeth after every meal you consume. This is common knowledge, though this seldom followed by the ordinary man. Usually, people brush twice a day, once in the morning and once in the night - and many times, the night brushing is forgotten. Unless you have a constant and regular mouth hygiene routine, it is not possible to have white teeth for a long time.
4. Use salt at regular intervals - plain salt is a great natural teeth whitening agent. Once in a while if you brush your teeth with salt, say once a week, you will not need any more help with your teeth. Use of the salt also improves the strength of the gums. The only thing that one has to watch out is that the salt be powdered extra fine so there is no abrasion action on the enamel of the teeth.

Chemical Peels | Chemical Skin Peels | Facial Chemical Peel
by Alien Sheng
Chemical peels are used for the removal of skin blemishes or wrinkles. The skin becomes smooth and the skin texture and appearance will improve with the solution used by the chemical peels. It does so by stripping away the damaged outer layers of the skin.In this process of stripping away, chemical peels can lessen, and in some cases, even eliminate blemishes, hyper-pigmentation and wrinkles. Acne scars and the occurrence of acne can also be reduced with the help of chemical peels.
It is very important that, first of all, that you get proper assessment on your current skin condition. By this you can properly understand your skin's needs and proper skin treatment.
Some people are under the myth that chemical skin peels are the cure for their skin problems. The proper chemical peel will target your particular problems provide the sufficient solution.
Types Of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are of three types. You may choose one according to your needs and circumstance. The available chemical peels are divided into three categories:
* Alphahydroxy Acids (AHA) * Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) * Phenol
Each of these categories of chemical peels, vary in their use, potency and inconvenience. You can take the help of your dermatologist in deciding the right kind of chemical peel for you.
A dermatologist will help you determine which peel program is right for you. He may suggest a customized solution for you. Make sure you understand what the dermatologist is about to do before actually agreeing to the procedure. Make sure to clarify all your queries.
Alphahydroxy acids
The mildest of the chemical peels are the Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). Usually, these chemical peels are made of fruit, glycolic, and lactic acids. These chemical peels may not show as impressive effects as the other peels.
However, these chemical peels are best for those who do not have time to recover from the other chemical peel procedures. Depending on your dermatologist's advice these chemical peels are applied weekly or periodically. But they do result in smoother, finer looking skin after a few treatments.
Some dermatologists will incorporate AHA into the daily skin care regimen of the patient. This may be in soaps, facial cleanser, etc. Commercial AHA facial care solutions are also available that can be applied everyday.
Trichloroacetic Acid
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is an intermediate chemical peel. These chemical peels are useful for those who wish to have the effects almost as impressive as phenol chemical peels but cannot dedicate too much time to healing as in the case of those who prefer AHA peels.
You can require more than one chemical peel to achieve the desired effect. This skin treatment is ideal for medium depth peeling. It is also the ideal peel for blemishes and fine lines, which are not that severe.
Phenol
The most effective of the chemical peels is the Phenol. These types of chemical peels take some time to heal. They are recommended in cases that feature coarse wrinkles and severe blemishes such as blotching, coarse skin, etc.
Phenol is also a strong whitening agent and this may be an aspect in considering whether to choose this sort of treatment. Phenol chemical peels are primarily a facial treatment. It may result in scarring if the application is used for other parts of the body.
Side Effects Of Chemical Peels
The possible side effects of chemical peels is that the possibility of demarcation lines, lines that show which part of the face received skin treatment and which did not, redness, irritation, and other side effects.
Post Treatment Instructions
Because of the usual state of newly peeled skin, the redness and irritation is normal. Your dermatologist will advise you on the care and upkeep of tender skin. It is generally recommended for those who have undergone this skin treatment that they stay out of the sun for several months as to protect the newly formed skin.
But that is to be expected from such procedures. All in all, chemical peels are safe, although they may cause some inconvenience. The risks for scarring are low. However, a certified professional must perform the procedure to ensure safety.

Help! I've Got White Spots
By: Debra
Fungal infections of the human body are very common, and are often quite bothersome. One such example is a condition known as tinea versicolor, a superficial yeast infection that produces white spots on the skin that are difficult to remove.
How do I get it?
Pityrosporum orbiculare, the yeast that causes tinea versicolor, is present in small numbers on normal skin; regular washing rids the skin of dead skin cells as well as excess yeast. But it can grow in great amounts – during the summer months when humidity sky-rockets or when a person's immune system is weakened – and interfere with the normal pigmentation of the skin; resulting in unsightly spots in both light and dark colors.
Teens and young adults, regardless of skin color, are the usual victims of tinea versicolor, and those with oily skin may be more prone to it than those with dry skin. In tropical countries, where humidity and temperature are persistently elevated, people of all ages can suffer from these spots all throughout the year.
What are the symptoms?
Flat spots that range in color from white to pink to tan and brown appear over the upper arms, chest, back, neck and face. They vary greatly in size, from as small as four to five millimeters in diameter to large areas of confluence. Scaling may not be readily evident, but scales may easily be obtained by scraping the affected areas. A mild itch may be present, particularly if a person is sweating or feels hot. When the spots involve the neck or face, it can be very disconcerting.
What can I do about it?
If you think you have white spots or any discolorations of the skin, see a dermatologist. The appearance of the skin is often all that is required to clinch a diagnosis, but microscopic examination of the fine scales can be performed if necessary. When viewed under a special light or chemical preparation, the presence of the yeast can be confirmed.
How it is treated?
Tinea versicolor responds to either topical or oral forms of treatment. Topical antifungal creams, ointments, or shampoos – containing selenium sulfide, keteconazole, zinc-pyrithrone, imidazole, or other medications – applied directly to affected areas once or twice daily have proven effective. Sulfur soap and salicyclic acid have also been used to rid skin of the yeast. Oral antifungals have been used to treat tinea versicolor resistant to topical applications. In both topical and oral forms of treatment, however, restoration of skin color should be expected several months after yeast has been destroyed. Consult your dermatologist before using any of these medications.
Recurrence is common and medicated cleansers may be needed to prevent relapses. Ask your dermatologist about them. To discourage overgrowth of fungus, keep skin dry and wear thin, loose clothing.
Fungal infections on the skin can cause a great deal of discomfort and embarrassment to the sufferer. But that is no reason to shy away from proper treatments. With proper topical and/or oral medication, the problem may not be as serious as you think.

Warning: Bird Flu Spreads
By: Bogdan Epureanu
The Avian Flu virus, also known as the Bird Flu virus or as H5N1, is a sub-species of the Influenza A virus which causes severe illness and death in humans and animals. Since 2003 this deadly virus has been spreading globally causing fear and panic in countries all around the world. First recognized in Vietnam, to date the virus has 291 known cases and has claimed 172 lives as well as permanently changed thousands more in 11 countries globally including China, Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkey. Most recently the British government has pledged to spend £200 ($400) million to import enough Tamiflu and Relenza to vaccinate approximately a quarter of the population against the Bird Flu.
With a 60% death rate recorded from infected patients of the H5N1 virus, it’s easy to see why being prepared for such an event is highly recommended by professionals and scientists like world-renowned virologist Robert Webster who has published an article titled "The world is teetering on the edge of a pandemic that could kill a large fraction of the human population". Webster urged for adequate resources to fight a major world threat that could kill anywhere from 5 to 150 million people and even possibly billions of lives over the course of just a few years.
The resources Webster is talking about are Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) and Relenza (Zanamivir), the only two effective antiviral drugs that are to be used in the treatment of the H5N1 Virus which causes the Bird Flu. Unfortunately for Tamiflu and Relenza patients, in order for these antivirals to be most effective they need to be administered at the early stage of infection which in turn has caused many countries to stockpile in preparation for the pandemic. This global stockpile has resulted in a major shortage for these life saving antivirals leaving many private citizens without access when these will be needed the most. Drug companies, manufacturers, and scientists are scrambling to come up with a vaccine to protect the world against the H5N1 strain of influenza, but currently Tamiflu and Relenza are the only antivirals that have shown promise in fighting the virus to date.
With the knowledge and warnings that have been provided to us it is just common sense to realize that this is a global problem and you need to be prepared. Act now to protect your family because with the current demand for these medications it may soon be too late. And we strongly believe that every family deserves equal access to Tamiflu and Relenza life saving antivirals - not just the governments who stockpile only for the health care workers and whoever they deem are suitable for treatment during a pandemic. Don't delay - protect your family today.

Hair Transplant Surgery - What Options Do You Have When Considering Hair Transplant Surgery?
By Chris Andersen
Hair Transplant surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures chosen by men today.
A hair transplant is when hair in an area that is not prone to balding (such as the sides and back of your head) is taken and transplanted into the balding or thinning areas. This hair then continues to grow throughout your lifetime and can give you a full head of natural looking hair.
A hair transplant is the only real permanent solution for hair loss and balding. However it is a big decision to make and you should have all the facts before deciding to have hair transplant surgery.
So just what are your surgery options? Here's a brief review of the different types of procedures offered by hair transplant surgeons. (Note that not all surgeons offer all options.)
Options For Hair Transplant Surgery:
In general there are 2 types of transplantation surgery: The FUSS and the FUE method.
Not all doctors perform the FUE method as it is fairly new and much more time-consuming (as well as expensive for the patient).
Some surgeons also offer scar repair surgery (which is surgery to improve the look of a previous hair transplant scar) as well as hair transplant repair (for example to fill in density on a formerly poor transplant or to redo the hairline, etc.) Again, not all surgeons perform this type of surgery so you might have to look around for specialists in each area.
Whichever procedure you choose will also depend on the extent of your personal needs. Your doctor can inform you of the risks, advantages and disadvantages of each method.
#1) FUSS - Follicular Unit Strip Surgery
A narrow strip of hair is taken from the back of your scalp (where you aren't prone to thinning). The grafts are then implanted into the balding area and most will continue to grow throughout your lifetime. The donor area is closed up with sutures or staples. These will be removed in several days or absorbed.
Depending on several factors (including the skill of your surgeon), only minimal scarring will occur in the donor area and approximate downtime can run from 1 week to a month, depending on the situation.
One of the main advantages to FUSS is that it allows many grafts to be transplanted in one session (i.e. up to 4000) so the results can be dramatic. While your surgeon can recommend which method is best for you, in general, the FUSS method works well for medium to large areas of balding.
#2) FUE - Follicular Unit Extraction
This is a new technique that a few surgeons are starting to offer. It mainly consists of harvesting each hair follicule separately from the back and sides of the head (that aren't prone to thinning). Then each follicule is transplanted into the balding area. There is no scalpel cutting or any deep surgery with this method.
The scarring tends to be less when compared to the FUSS method. Also, according to some surgeons, the recovery time can sometimes be shorter with the FUE method (because there isn't the deep surgery as with the FUSS).
While your surgeon can recommend which method is best for you, in general, the FUE method works well for those people who do not wish to have a scar, don't need a lot of grafts, or who want to wear their hair very short.
#3) Other Procedures - Scalp Reduction
This surgery is much less common and fewer surgeons still offer it. A scalp reduction is where areas of balding are surgically removed with the rest of the scalp skin pulled together to eliminate the balding skin. Depending on the size of the balding area, this is usually done in stages.
This is probably the most expensive procedure and can run you into the tens of thousands of dollars. Plus there's also risks like tightness of your scalp leading to thinning of the skin and improper scarring.
Conclusion:
Whatever you decide to do, it's important to talk to your doctor before making any decisions about your health. Hair transplant surgery is always evolving and improving so it's also important to interview as many surgeons as you can to get a good idea of what each can do for you.
Keep in mind that doing your research beforehand can ensure you get the most amazing, natural results that you want.

Otoplasty (ear surgery)
by Lynn Fugaro
Protruding ears is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after facial plastic surgeryotoplasty (ear surgery). This cosmetic surgery, though gaining popularity with youngsters, can be performed at any age as long as the ears have reached their full size. Even if the ears are only mildly distorted, this physical condition can lead to extreme self-consciousness and poor adaptation and functioning in school. Children with protruding ears are often called names in school like "Dumbo" and would do just about anything to end the constant teasing they endure. Now there is a safe and highly effective cosmetic surgery solution to their problem. techniques in recent years. Children with protruding ears are quickly becoming some of the more common seekers ofWho is a Candidate for the Surgery?
Though most popular in children, adults may also benefit from this procedure, and, often, adults choose this procedure in conjunction with other facial cosmetic surgery procedures. Ears can be pinned back, reshaped, reduced in size and made more symmetrical.
Otoplasty is not recommended for everyone, and your plastic surgeon will discuss options, risks, and costs with you at the time of your initial consultation. General good health and realistic expectations are prerequisites for a successful otoplasty experience. Otoplasty does not improve your hearing or alter your hearing. The goal of a successful otoplasty is to adjust the ears to make them proportionate to the size and shape of your face and head.
Having your child's best interests at heart is also very important. A positive attitude is crucial when committing to ear surgery, especially when the patient is a child or teenager. A consultation with a plastic surgeon will help parents decide what is best for their child aesthetically, psychologically, and physically.
The Surgical Process
Otoplasty begins with an incision behind the ear in the fold where the ear is joined to the head. The surgeon will remove cartilage and skin required to achieve the desired effect. In some cases, the cartilage will be trimmed and shaped into a more desirable form. The cartilage will then be pinned back with permanent sutures to secure the cartilage.
After the surgery, soft dressings will be applied for a few days. You cannot sleep or put any pressure on your ears, and you may experience some discomfort. Headbands are sometimes recommended for a couple of weeks to hold the ears in position.
Otoplasty risks are minimal, and the scar is barely noticeable as it is hidden behind the ear. As with any cosmetic surgery, if you experience any unusual symptoms after surgery, you should call your surgeon's office immediately.

The Symptoms of Pregnancy with Twins
By:David Viniker
If your pregnancy symptoms are earlier and more pronounced than you'd normally expect, you may be carrying a twin pregnancy. However, only a health professional can tell for sure.
1. You just feel that you are carrying more than one baby. Some mothers of twins (or higher order multiples) say that they knew right from the start that they were carrying more than one baby.
2. You experience more nausea and/or morning sickness. If you are having more than one baby, you may have an elevated hCG level (hCG is a pregnancy related hormone). This hormone is the one associated with morning sickness.
3. Other typical pregnancy symptoms may be exaggerated. Many women -- but not all -- who are pregnant with twins have more intense pregnancy symptoms, probably related to the extra hormones circulating through their system. You may find that your breasts are extremely tender, you have to urinate frequently, you are hungry all the time and you are always very tired.
4. A higher than average weight gain in the first 16 weeks may be your first clue that you're carrying more than one baby. Good weight gain in early twin pregnancy is associated with a favourable outcome.
With each additional fetus a woman carries, the range of weight gain will increase. For example, a woman who starts a pregnancy in a healthy weight range might expect her weight gain to be as follows:
One fetus, 11 kg (24 lb) to 16 kg (35 lb)
Twins, 16 kg (35 lb) to 20 kg (44 lb)
Triplets, 20 kg (44 lb) to 23 kg (51 lb)
Quads, 23 kg (51 lb) to 25 kg (55 lb)
5. Your uterus seems large for gestational age. If your last menstrual period indicates an eight-week gestation, your uterus may feel more like 10 to 12 weeks to your obstetrician. This may prompt a request for an ultrasound examination.
6. You are told that you have elevated levels of AFP. AFP is one of the chemicals tested to screen for Down’s syndrome and spina bifida abnormalities. AFP levels are higher in twin pregnancies.
7. Your health care provider hears two fetal heartbeats. Two separate heartbeats can be distinguishable with a Doppler in your care provider's office from around 18 weeks. At around 28 weeks, it may be possible to differentiate two fetal heads and multiple small parts when doing an abdominal exam.
8. You have a positive ultrasound. If you believe you are pregnant with twins, an ultrasound can be performed quite early in pregnancy. With a skilled ultrasonographer, two gestational sacs, two embryos and two distinct fetal heartbeats can be seen six weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. Many twins have been diagnosed as early as five weeks -- when you're just one week late for your menstrual period.
9. In later pregnancy, you may experience difficulty catching your breath, swelling (oedema) of the hands and legs, an unusual rate of weight gain and abdominal enlargement and excessive fetal movement. Anaemia or low iron (decreased haemoglobin) is also common with twin and multiple pregnancies.
10. There is considerable disagreement among medical professionals as to whether a woman carrying twins is more likely to feel movement earlier. But many mothers do claim that those early flutters and flips were their first clue that they might be having more than one.

Propecia or Rogaine: Which is Better?
By: Tim Bock
Debating Hairlines
There are two main drugs that people (mostly men) use to prevent baldness from occurring. One is Rogaine, the other is Propecia. These are the only hair loss drugs that are approved by the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of hair loss. They are also the only drugs that have shown any effectiveness against baldness.
The Hair Loss Drugs: How They Work
Propecia: The New Drug on the Block
Propecia (finasteride) is taken in the form of a pill, and it is ingested once daily. It prevents baldness by inhibiting a hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which most experts believe cause the majority of hair loss. Statistics show that Propecia showed results for 80% of men who ingested it, by either stopping hair loss or even allowing some hair to grow back. Propecia is a powerful drug and is only available by prescription.
Rogaine: Old Faithful
Rogaine (minoxidil) is the other drug that is extensively used for hair loss. Unlike Propecia, it usually comes in the form of a liquid that is applied to the scalp twice a day. It prevents baldness by revitalizing shrunken or dying hair follicles, in the process increasing their size. Used daily, Rogaine may begin to produce longer and thicker hairs than would otherwise be the case.
The Verdict
Most people who have used both these drugs maintain that Propecia is the more effective of the two. Even more effective than simply using Propecia, however, is using both Propecia and Rogaine. The combination of the two drugs will give you faster, longer lasting results than would be otherwise possible.

Treating My Crohn's Disease
By Jeff Foster
This chronic and inflammatory disease of the bowel which leads to a cacophony of life altering symptoms including pain and rectal bleeding, Crohn’s Disease is a battle many face today.
Unfortunately there is no currently no cure for Crohn's disease, but there are many treatment options available that have been successfully used by many in the long term treatment and management of their thiss disease.
There are various Crohn's disease treatment options. Many patients find that a combination of therapies work best at controlling their symptoms. Options include prescription medications, nutritional supplements, and in extreme cases, surgical intervention.
Currently there are several categories of prescription strength medication used in the treatment of Crohn's. Medication classes such as anti-inflammatory medications, steroids, immune system suppressors, antibiotics, and even anti-diarrhea medications or fluid replacements have all been used successfully in the battle of thiss disease. Patients often find a complex combination of these drugs best control symptoms.
Because of the inflammation of the GI tract which goes hand in hand with Crohn’s disease, the anti-inflammatory drugs work well since they reduce inflammation. There are several common anti-inflammatory medications used in the treatment of Crohn’s, such as Sulfasalazine, Pentasa, Asacol or Dipentum. Some of these have rather nasty side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and wicked heartburn. If the side effects are too much, then another drug can be tried instead.
Medications used to treat Crohn's disease may also include steroids. Typically patients begin steroids at a high dosage when the disease is most active and then the dosage is lower as symptoms become more controlled. Steroids have a great reputation for helping to control it. One of the more negative side effects unfortunately is that this drug makes you much more susceptible to an infection.
Another exciting promise in the field of drugs used to treat Crohn’s disease is a medication by the name of Remicade. This drug is showing lots of promise because of its reaction. It is the first in a group of drugs that block the body’s inflammatory response. Remicade is FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe Crohn’s that has not responded to the traditional therapies.
Anti-diarrhreal medications are also used in the treatment. These drugs are helpful since the abdominal pain and diarrhea associated with Crohn’s is one of the toughest things to handle.
Prescription medications designed to suppress the human immune system are also used to treat and manage Crohn's disease. These amines suppressing drugs work by blocking the body's natural immune reaction that contributes to the inflammation of the G.I. tract. Some patients report side effects such as diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Often patients are also less able to fight off an infection.
Some patients with Crohn’s disease are treated with antibiotics since these medications can target bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.
Drugs to treat the disease are a must in the battle for control and for a more positive outcome on your long term health. Ignoring the symptoms of Crohn’s disease or choosing to be non-complaint with your prescribed medication treatment is a poor choice and one that should be avoided.
So get together with your doctor and work it out. Together you can make the best decision about the right drugs for you in treating this disease.

Cryosurgery – Freeze Your Foot & Ankle Pain Away
by: Marc Katz
Advances in Cryoanalgesia for Foot and Ankle Pain Relief
Foot and ankle pain has become an epidemic in our society. Diabetes, arthritis, weight gain, injuries and other medical conditions are known contributing factors. If you suffer from chronic foot and ankle pain, relief may be at your doorstep!
When people live with pain on a daily basis, they have difficulty performing simple daily activities. Some have difficulty sleeping or simply walking. This often leads to depression, weight gain and stress. The cycle continues, leading to further distress and life changes that are difficult. The conditions worsen as people don’t know where to turn for relief.
Cryoanalgesia, also known as Cryosurgery, has been used for almost 20 years to relieve chronic foot and ankle pain by freezing the painful. Newly developed techniques and improvements in the CryoStar technology have led to excellent treatments for relief of pain.
Dr. Marc Katz, a Tampa Podiatrist, has performed hundreds of procedures for relief of foot and ankle pain. He has made it his goal to find a successful treatment and has refined the procedure through extensive training, advanced technology and experience. He found that many patients either lived with foot pain or had multiple types of treatments from many medical specialties with little to no relief. Many people had been told that there was nothing else that could be done to provide them with relief.
So where do you turn when you can’t get relief from chronic foot and ankle pain?
Cryosurgery!
The procedure is minimally invasive and takes 15-30 minutes. During a typical in-office procedure, local anesthetic is used so that the cryoprobe can be introduced without discomfort. The probe is inserted through a small skin opening which will require no sutures. The doctor uses a stimulator to locate the nerve. The freeze cycles are then initiated to give long-term pain relief and produce an anesthetic effect.
The patient may perform most of their regular tasks immediately, however . they are advised to decrease their normal level of activity over the first 48 hours. Postoperative discomfort is minimal.
In some cases more than one treatment is needed to obtain optimal results. “Success rates have been around 80 percent in most patients”, says Dr. Katz. “As with any treatment, results will vary. However, most patients get significant relief with the Cryosurgery treatment. Some patients may require treatment of several nerve areas to get relief and may need the procedure repeated to gain additional relief.”
The latest more specialized Cryosurgery procedure takes advanced skills and is more time-intensive, but allows for localization of the abnormal nerve using a stimulator probe. Also, the area is checked for motor nerves. Those are the nerves that control muscle movement and should not be frozen for pain relief. “It is a more exact and precise procedure, so there is little to no guessing. When freezing the nerve, I am more confident that the actual nerve is freezing and not just an area close to the nerve”, says Dr. Katz.
The Cryosurgery procedure sounds fairly straightforward, but it’s more than technique and technology. Another important step in obtaining pain relief and success involves the correct diagnosis and finding the source of the pain. This can be a challenge because many patients have a hard time describing the type and location of their pain. The pain may also vary from day to day. Specialized protocols are used to locate the nerve causing the problem and to diagnose and prove the painful condition prior to performing any procedures. Dr Katz believes that this extra step is critical to good outcomes. “Spending individualized time with each patient makes a world of difference.”
So what should my expectations be from the Cryosurgery procedure?
The majority of patients get significant pain relief for at least 6-8 months. The relief can be long-lasting if the underlying problem that initially caused the pain is treated. Not all patients treated with Cryosurgery will get relief. Some may require more than one treatment and others may not get relief at all. Also, after treating an area there may be numbness that can be long-lasting. Other previously unidentified pain areas may become more apparent after pain relief in another area. In those cases, the other involved nerves can also be treated. Complications are rare, however with any procedure, they can occur. This should be discussed with your Cryosurgeon prior to the procedure.
So don’t give up, Cryosurgery may be the answer for relief of your painful foot and ankle problems.

The Facts About Wellbutrin
by Jim Pretin
Wellbutrin, also known by its scientific name Bupropion, is a very popular antidepressant. It inhibits the reuptake of both dopamine and norepinephrine. If you have never used Wellbutrin before, you need to familiarize yourself with the drug interactions and the side effects associated with it.Wellbutrin is metabolized by the liver. In lab experiments performed with rats, the drug was found to cause hepatocellular hypertrophy when administed in high doses (hypertrophy is an increase in the size of the cells). Common side effects include agitation, dizziness, hypertension, dry mouth, tremors, anxiety, loss of appetite, headache, excessive sweating, increased risk of seizure, and insomnia.
Although with the recommended dosing of the drug the probability that a seizure will occur is extremely small, patients using it should still be screened for any health factors that could contribute to or increase the likelihood of a seizure. A doctor may also review other prescriptions the patient might be taking and recommend an appropriate dosage based on that information.
Also, suicidal thoughts and attempts have been reported in children and adolescents. Bupropion has been shown to increase the incidence of suicidal thoughts amongst children and adolescents. When treating major depression in this group of patients, clinical benefits should be weighed carefully against the potential hazards. Usually, Bupropion is not intended for patients under the age of 18.
Another potential side effect is an improvement in sexual function. Bupropion, unlike serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Prozac, does not appear to reduce the libido of the patient, and more frequently enhances sexual desire. Patients who complain of an impairment in their sex drive as a result of their SSRI have sometimes been prescribed small doses of Wellbutrin to correct it.
One controversy associated with Bupropion is its propensity to lower the seizure threshold. In combination with other medicines, it has been suspected to cause seizures in some patients who have never had a seizure before.[12] While this is not common, an increase in the number of such cases around the globe probably merits further discussion and investigation.
It is not uncommon for patients to receive treatment with other antidepressant prescriptions in combination with Wellbutrin. For this reason, a doctor should be careful when prescribing it with other medications prone to lowering the seizure threshold. Bupropion has also been known to produce seizures in combination with non-illegal drugs such as cocaine and recreational drugs such as alcohol.
I hope you have found this information helpful. Be sure to disclose to your physician any other drugs you might be taking before requesting a prescrtiption for Wellbutrin. Although some of the side effects and drug interactions we have covered are rare, they can happen unexpectedly to even the most healthy individuals.

ADHD Signs and Symptoms
By David Rossy
The diagnosis and treatment of ADHD is such that many people have to find the methods and medications that worked for them on their own. Often the biggest experts in attention deficit disorders are the sufferers themselves - but why should this be?
Unfortunately this disorder is difficult to diagnose and many leading medical authorities still cannot agree on a reliable method of testing for ADHD - never mind agreeing on suitable treatments!
There are two sides to the attention deficit disorder story. On the one hand many children ( and some adults) have been labelled as outcasts, freaks, truants, annoying, hyperactive, class jokers, and in general, badly behaved and unruly. When in fact they are suffering from attention deficit disorders. On the other hand we have many children in the USA today on prescription Ritalin ( a common adhd treatment drug) when in fact there is little likelihood of any attention disorder affecting them. Some junior schools are reporting almost 60% of some classes are on prescription medication for ADHD - we know from statistics that it is unlikely ( to say the least) that these children are all suffering from a genuine clinical attention disorder.
One of the reasons for this diagnosis/misdiagnosis problem is the fact that most (if not all) of the classic symptoms of ADHD are present in all children at some point in their development, for instance bad behaviour and lack of interest in school and activities is a major symptom of ADHD - how many children do you know that have never suffered from these symptoms?
The lists of typical problems and symptoms go on and on. In fact, for the usual ADHD sufferer is afflicted with many symptoms or maladies at any given time. They interrupt; blurt; intrude; have problems with social interaction and organization/timekeeping; are impatient, cant sit still or relax, are irritable, impulsive, hyperactive, and defiant of authority.
So the main difference between genuine sufferers of ADHD and other children who simply suffer from "growing up" seem to be the number and severity of the symptoms - not the actual symptoms themselves. Unfortunately many parents now assume ADHD (or occasionally autism) at the first sign of trouble and pressure their doctors into prescribing medication. While at the same time many children with ADHD are simply labelled as "bad" or "naughty" so are denied treatment.
Once ADHD is identified, there are many treatments, however, the two most used treatments by far are:-
Amphetamines: Ironically, even though a child with ADHD is normally hyperactive and speedy already, giving him or her amphetamines(speed) as an ADHD treatment has the opposite effect. Scientists are not sure exactly how it works, but it helps ADHD sufferers to focus, organize, pay attention, and generally perform well socially and academically.
Ritalin: Ritalin is the grand daddy of ADHD treatment drugs, again working again in ways the scientists cannot exactly understand but apparently in a very similar way to amphetamine usage. Ritalin is also still debated over constantly, especially with regards to children. Do we simply drug children who misbehave?
The author has suffered from attention deficit problems since childhood. He now researches latest developments in adhd. To find out more about the diagnosis, treatment and symptoms of ADHD and what you cab do to help yourself or your children, please check out ADHD alternative therapies and treatments or the authors new squidoo self help ADHD page at ADHD the alternatives

Thyroid Disease and Headaches
By: Alien
Thyroid disease is considered a comorbid condition for headaches and migraines. This means that although it occurs independently of the headaches it still can intensify them and can also make treatment much more complex. A comorbid condition may have an enormous effect on the provision and success of medical treatment.
Thyroid diseases, including hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, are among the conditions now known to often coexist with headaches and migraines.
Female Hormones
A great deal of research focus in headaches involves the connection between headaches and female hormones when, in fact, endocrine hormones are also extremely important in headache aetiology. Genuine migraine headaches are not directly caused by thyroid disease. The abnormal high and low levels of thyroid hormones that are characteristic of thyroid disease can, however, intensify migraines. Any disease of the thyroid gland can impact virtually every organ in the body so it is not surprising that headaches are often intensified when a person also suffers from thyroid disease.
Thyroid disease is also much more likely to occur in women than men and when you take into account the effect of female hormones on headaches, women can be hit particularly hard with intense headache pain. The effects of thyroid disease on menstruation itself further compound the problem and can alter headache and migraine patterns.
Hypothyroidism results from an under-functioning thyroid gland. Some of the symptoms of thyroid disease include:
* Fatigue
* Weight gain
* Weakness
* Altered menstrual cycle
* Constipation
* Hair loss
* Muscle pains
Hyperthyroidism results from an overactive thyroid gland. Migraines may be prompted through an increase in oestrogen levels noted in people who suffer from hyperthyroidism. Eye problems experienced with a hyperactive thyroid can also lead to headaches and migraines, with pain centred around the eye area. Other symptoms that may be present in hyperthyroidism are:
* Fatigue
* Weight loss
* Sweating
* Altered menstrual cycle
* Greater frequency in bowel movements
* Anxiety
* Fast heart beat
Handling Headaches and Thyroid Disease
If you suspect that your headaches may be related to thyroid disease, you should see your doctor. He or she will likely have blood tests performed to determine endocrine hormone levels and to rule out any other disease states that may be causing or affecting your headaches.
For hypothyroidism, treatment usually involves a daily dose of synthetic thyroid hormone. For hyperthyroidism, there are a couple of anti-thyroid drugs available that your doctor will likely prescribe for you. Treatment depends on the level of the disease as well as other factors such as your age. If your periods have been irregular due to thyroid disease, correcting your hormones will likely help get your menstrual cycle regulated and this may also help to improve your headaches. Beta-blockers may be prescribed in addition to a primary thyroid drug, and these are also effective in treating headaches.
Immediate Relief
For immediate relief, you can usually safely take over-the-counter drugs such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen but do check with your doctor first. Although alternative therapies that are focused on relaxation may be helpful, if it is determined that you have thyroid disease, you will most likely have to take medication. Any treatments for stress can still provide benefits but can't replace synthetic hormone thyroid medication. Fortunately there have been enough advances in thyroid treatment that you can generally expect to get your symptoms under control, including your headaches.
Thyroid disease involves over or under-stimulation of the thyroid gland and can intensify headache patterns. If your headaches are a symptom of thyroid disease, controlling your thyroid through medication should help.

Tattoo Precautions: Better Safe Than Sorry
In this generation, there is no arguing that tattoos are among the coolest things; it makes one more popular, more interesting, and it gives you a certain boost in confidence as you go around town sporting it, or even when nobody sees it. Although, there still are negative issues about having tattoos, they are becoming more and more mainstream and it is showing no signs of backing off. No, I am not talking about social issues.
In getting a tattoo, safety should always be vigilantly observed to avoid medical issues. These include preventing diseases such as HIV, AIDS, hepatitis and other diseases that can be acquired through sharing of needles, use of unsterile equipments and sloppy procedures. You can do this by only going to tattoo shops and tattoo artists that are fully licensed. And you, yourself, have to make certain that everything that pierces your skin is new and sterile.
Another thing that could pose a health problem are those large tattoos such as full length dragon tattoos and elaborate Celtic designs. While they can be reproduced on skin in smaller versions, dragon tattoos are much more impressive-looking when done in large sizes, which heal much slower than smaller tattoos. Slower healing means greater risk for infection. And infection is one thing you don’t want to have with your new tattoo.
Some people who are either into the art of tattooing or into elaborate tattoos like dragon tattoos, which is a perfect example, prefer to have a full length dragon inked on their body with the tail of the dragon starting from their foot or ankle, coiling its way up ending with its head in an elaborate back piece. Dragon tattoos such as these are done in segments in different sessions to allow gradual healing. Lower foot tattoos are also prone to infections, which is why most tattoo artists are more careful when it comes to foot tattoos.
Getting a tattoo means a needle will be stuck in your skin multiple times, deep enough to make you bleed a little. Yes, it is painful. And if a person with a low pain threshold decides to get large tattoos like dragon tattoos, he could go into shock because of the pain. But pain thresholds vary for different people. Just make sure you are prepared for it mentally and physically.
Before getting a tattoo, it is better if you had your tetanus shots completed, just to be on the safe side. If you have diabetes, known allergies, skin infections, and low immune system, you might want to think twice about getting a tattoo. Also, if you are a keloid-former, it’s better not to have the tattoo at all, be it small tattoo or a large one. Either way, you’ll only be getting a chunk of scar tissue in the end.
A made up mind is not enough when deciding to get a tattoo. Your decisions must also have the blessings of your doctor. No matter how much you want one if your body’s saying no, then maybe in another lifetime if your body decides to permit it, you can have as much ink as you want.
Damage Caused By Anorexia Symptoms
by Sandra Kim Leong
You probably already know something about anorexia symptoms. Thisanorexia can completely overtake your normal thought process. Another one of the anorexia symptoms is that it can make you feel worthless and miserable. If you are a female with anorexia, one anorexic symptom is that your menstrual period could be interrupted by this eating disorder. You may still get an irregular period but either losing or irregularity is not good for your body. If you plan to have a child later on, you will probably have problems with fertility because you have starved your body for a while.
If you are at the beginning stages of this condition, then your anorexia symptoms could be showing up in your bones. This is tragic because your body is probably still growing. Now is when you really need proper nutrition. If you do not give your body proper nutrition then you could have decreased bone growth and osteoporosis. This is when your bones will become brittle and frail. You should know that if you do not allow your bones to properly develop then they will never be as strong as they should be.
This is not the most damaging of the anorexia symptoms though. The most damaging effects are done to the heart. The heart of an anorexic decrease in size because it is a muscle. This will cause the heart to grow increasingly weaker. As such your pulse will slow and your blood pressure will sink. This will cause you to have an irregular heartbeat, which is life threatening.
Studies show that 5 to 20% of anorexics will die because of these anorexia symptoms. If you do manage to recover completely, you will face significant health problems. This is because the damage that anorexia does to your body is permanent.
Of course, your mental health will also suffer. This is because you are so obsessed with the way that you look. As such, you will be depressed and have low self-esteem. You may even feel so isolated and alone with your struggle that you feel tempted to commit suicide.
You probably did not realize until now all of the consequences of your eating disorder. Alternatively, if you know someone who is anorexic you should be there for him or her. They need your support, compassion and kindness. This is what will help them through their recovery process.

Delicious Low Purine Foods For Gout Sufferers
Under normal circumstances, the purines you find in many foods are broken down into uric acid, and the body gets rid of it without any problems. However, for someone with gout, getting rid of this uric acid is problematic, and the result is painful crystals forming in the joints – leading to gout pain. When this happens, there are medications that can help with the pain, but one of the best things a person can do it to is to find low purine foods and make them a major part of their diet. This can offer much-needed relief for most.
There are some general directions for a low purine diet, but always listen to your doctor’s advice in addition to this information. A low purine diet is going to contain almost fifty percent carbohydrates each day, and no more than thirty percent of the diet each day should be made up of fats. The rest should be healthy and lower purine protein sources. Drinks that are normally not allowed on many special diets are actually encouraged. These include soda and coffee. The reason being as that they act as directics, helping your body to flush out the excess uric acid. It’s important to drink plenty of water as well to keep your body well hydrated. Alcohol, however, in most forms is not something you should be drinking.
When looking for low purine foods for your diet, you can find a great variety of things you can have that won’t cause any issues with your gout. If you love thick soups, you can have them as long as they are made with low fat milk. Cheese and milk are fine, but again, they should be low in fat. You can also enjoy things like gelatin and a great variety of fruits and fruit juices. Most sweets are just fine, but remember to watch the calories if you are attempting to get your weight down. You can also enjoy things like pasta, and peanut butter is okay for a treat.
When choosing your low purine foods, you can have some medium purine rated foods with them about once a day if it does not bother you. Those would include some meats like beef, pork, and possibly chicken. Some seafood choices are relatively safe as well. You should experiment to find what bothers you and what works out well. As long as you work at limiting the purines, you are going to feel much better each day. You might want to have lobster bisque on occasion, as long as you limit your portions, and don’t have any other medium purine foods for the rest of the day.
You may have a hard time finding new foods to eat at first, but after a while you will get used to reading labels and figuring out what works for you and what does not. Any special diet requires a little thought and work, and the low purine foods diet is no exception. After a while though, reading and deciphering items in the store by reading through the ingredients list will become second nature, and you will become accustomed to knowing how to build your own menu with little thought. Feeling better should be all the motivation you need.

Other Imbalances That Can Affect Thyroid Hormone Replacement Treatment
by: James Lowrance
Patients who are diagnosed with hypothyroidism and are being treated for it with hormone replace therapy, can sometimes have other imbalances that hinder the effectiveness of the treatment. Things such as adrenal hormones being low, ferritin/iron, Vitamin B-12 etc…, can cause thyroid hormone treatment, to be less effective in patients with imbalances of these and is why thorough blood and saliva testing of all levels may need to be done, to find any problems that prevent the treatment from working as well.
That is a phenomena, that happens commonly to thyroid patients who start hormone therapy but some people in the medical field act as if they don't know this happens and some people attribute it just to your body adjusting to the meds.
Mild to moderate symptoms from adjusting, should be expected but severe reactions, especially ones that last for weeks and longer, in my opinion, can mean you have other hormone imbalances or chemical imbalances (like low ferritin, cortisol etc...) needing addressed and if they are not, the thyroid hormone will just serve to intensify the imbalance. For example; even the thyroid med makers have notations on their medication-inserts, websites etc..., that states "untreated adrenal cortical (cortisol) insufficiency, can worsen after beginning thyroid hormone therapy". This just means that it too needs addressed in order not to create an even more severe imbalance. I don't believe when patients have a bad reaction to their thyroid med, that they necessarily have CFS or Fibro but it can mean they have a degree of hypoadrenalism/adrenal fatigue (sub-clinical) or some other hormone or chemical imbalance that also needs corrected. For some patients, it can even be something like a B-12 deficiency (pernicious anemia).
My Endo only concluded CFS in me for example, through a combination of tests, symptoms/manifestations and a process of elimination. I not only had consistently low cortical but also an unreliable TSH, in correlation with my thyroid hormone levels, constantly swollen lymph nodes, an EBV (virus) count that was 10 times the upper normal cut off, etc.........
I feel for most thyroid patients, they are experiencing a more easily correctible problem, like adrenal fatigue or low ferritin, low B-12 etc..., rather than it always being co-occurring CFS but I also believe if the problem is severe and ongoing, they need to consider all possibilities.
Sometimes we need to get blood chemicals tested, B-12 levels, adrenal hormones, sex hormones etc..., tested, to zero in on what a problem might be, if thyroid treatment is not relieving severe symptoms. Mild to moderate symptoms commonly happen to thyroid patients but ones as severe as those of CFS/Fibro, definitely need investigated, otherwise it affects the patient's quality of life.
When you go through a Dr. Office or Hospital Lab, to get tested for “adrenal fatigue", they seldom ever check for anything other than true "adrenal insufficiency" because most simply do not believe in the existence of "adrenal fatigue", which is a sub-clinical form and much more common. If they want to rule out adrenal insufficiency, they usually do so with what's called an "ACTH Stimulation Test" and if this test reveals that your adrenal glands still respond to stimulation by the ACTH hormone, they believe this rules out any low adrenal problem. The fact is however, that very few people with adrenal fatigue, will fail the ACTH Stimulation Test but they still have adrenals that are not functioning normal and need to take supplements to correct it.
Tests that can reveal adrenal fatigue, are both blood cortisol and saliva cortisol tests, that are taken at several times during a 24 hour period. Another adrenal hormone; "DHEA", can also be tested because it and especially cortisol, are the major adrenal hormones.
If you hear saliva tests are not as accurate as blood, this has been proven repeatedly by research, not be true. Saliva tests, are as accurate as blood, for testing the "free levels" of the hormones and have been used in US Gov., hormone studies and are also recognized by major Insurance companies including Blue Shield, as accurate tests for hormones.
There are companies that offer these tests on the web but many Pharmacies also offer these.
When thyroid hormone replacement therapy does not seem to be working as it should, these other possibilities should also be considered and tested for.

Why Is Clenbuterol Mistaken For A Steroid?
By: iSteroids
Clenbuterol is a very remarkable and amazing compound, which is not a steroid hormone but a beta-2-symphatomimetic. Clenbuterol is prescribed to those suffering from breathing problems. Clenbuterol is recommended as a decongestant and bronchodilator. People with unrelieved asthma make use of Clenbuterol as a bronchodilator to make inhalation easier. Normally, it is available in salt form as Clenbuterol hydrochloride. Due to its illegitimate utilization in athletic competition, it is often mistaken for a steroid.
Clenbuterol is close to ephedrine, but its consequences are stronger and enduring as a stimulant plus thermogenic drug. The other benefits of Clenbuterol include CNS stimulation, enhancement in aerobic capacitance and an increase in blood pressure and oxygen transportation. Clenbuterol also boosts up the rate at which fat and protein is consumed inside the body simultaneously as slackening the glycogen storage. People use Clenbuterol because of its muscle relaxant properties, which mean it’s a bronchodilator and tocolytic.
As it is a bronchodilator, Clenbuterol is also used for treating allergic respiratory infection in horses. Ventipulmin is a well-known brand name, which can be taken in oral or injection form. Its capacity to tempt weight increase and a greater proportion of muscle to fat makes its illegal use in livestock popular.
Possible side effects of Clenbuterol comprise fidgetiness, quivers, hand tremor, vexation, increased sweating, sleeping troubles, possible muscle spasms, amplified blood pressure, and nausea. All these side effects are temporary and habitually lessen after 8-10 days, even with continuation of the product.
Several athletes use Clenbuterol after steroid treatment to balance the ensuing catabolic stage and therefore attain maximal power and muscle mass. An additional facet of Clenbuterol is its distinctive fat-burning upshot. Clenbuterol burns up fat without dieting as it raises the body temperature to some extent, coercing the body to blaze fat for this course of action. Due to the higher blood heat Clenbuterol amplifies the outcome of anabolic/androgenic steroids taken at the same time.
Jocks, runners and body-builders normally take 100-140 mcg of Clenbuterol in a day. In case of women, a quantity of 80-100 mcg per day is sufficient, but it is significant that the jocks start by taking a single tablet on the first day and then mounting the quantity by one tablet each of the following days until the desired maximum amount is achieved. Clenbuterol is frequently taken over a period of 8-10 weeks. Clenbuterol is also liked by women because it is not a hormone compound and has no fallouts typical of anabolic steroids.

The Benefits Of Vinpocetine
By: Michael Rupkalvis
Poor circulation of blood in the brain is one of the most significant mechanisms responsible for the cognitive decline that accompanies aging – typically, problems remembering directions, names and appointments. Memory lapses and episodes of disorientation are also frequently experienced.
The research indicates that Vinpocetine may help reduce the occurrence of such developments by increasing blood circulation in the brain. This is particularly true for people already experiencing mild age-related cognitive impairment.
Vinpocetine is a derivative of an extract taken from the periwinkle plant, an evergreen undershrub. The shrub is native to Europe, where it has been under examination since the 1950s for combating stroke and age-related decline in brain function. Only recently has Vinpocetine become available in the United States, and not as a prescription drug like in Europe, but as an over-the-counter dietary supplement.
Vinpocetine also enhances the brain’s use of oxygen by increasing the amount of ATP (adenosine triphosphate, the body’s cellular fuel). People suffering from dementia caused by numerous tiny strokes appear to benefit from an increased oxygen-rich brain environment. This condition can cause memory problems that closely resemble those of Alzheimer’s disease. Vinpocetine may be able to protect the brain from damage caused by strokes.
Extensively studied in Europe, Vinpocetine has also been used to treat symptoms of acute stroke, motor disorders, and dizziness. Some studies indicate a possible value for improving visual acuity and hearing as well. Even otherwise healthy people experienced improved short-term memory with Vinpocetine.
In addition, research indicates that Vinpocetine may also:
• Increase ATP (energy) levels in the brain
• Enhance use of glucose by brain cells
• Stop or prevent blood from becoming sticky
• Enhance memory and learning
• Increase levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters
• Increase the tolerance of the brain to lack of oxygen supply to the brain
• Enhance cerebral metabolism
• Improve vision
• Help with depression/mood changes/sleep disorders
• Aid with tinnitus and other causes of hearing impairment
The long term benefits of using Vinpocetine as a nutritional supplement may outweigh the short term benefits, by enhancing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to one’s brain over several regenerative cycles.
Vinpocetine is nontoxic even in doses several times higher than those used normally (Vinpocetine is 50 times less toxic than a cup of coffee at recommended doses) and has a low risk of side effects especially when taken with food. Vinpocetine supplements should be avoided by women who are pregnant or who are nursing, and by those with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. Also, prolonged use of Vinpocetine may lead to slight reductions in blood pressure. Reported adverse reactions include dry mouth, nausea, drowsiness, facial flushing, dizziness, transient hypotension and tachycardia, headache and insomnia.
Vinpocetine seems a useful supplement for promoting the proper functioning of the brain – one that may increase in use and popularity as its benefits are more widely recognized by our aging American public.
About the Author:
Michael Rupkalvis manages http://www.clearer-thinking.com website. The website discusses improving memory, stress reduction and increasing concentration by employing a product known as Think Straight, which is a supplement containing natural ingredients designed to maximize how the brain functions.

Human Hair Wigs for Chemotherapy Patients
By Anne Clarke
Not only do human chemotherapy wigs look good—but they help people going through very difficult times. The concept of chemotherapy wigs made of donated, human hair is almost heroic. Perhaps even more than any other kind of wig, human hair will look the very best.
