Introduction To Multiple Sclerosis
By: Jeanie Smith
1. Multiple Sclerosis:
Multiple Sclerosis is one amongst the widely afflicting diseases today. It can be interpreted to be a disease of nervous system where it worsens over a period of time with loss of feeling and loss of control of movement and speech.
So, MS attacks the individual's central nervous system that is constituted of different nerves and nerve fibers. It involves a threat to his brain, spinal cord and eye or optical nerves. Basically MS hampers or destructs the protein that safeguards the nerve fibers. This protective protein is known as myelin and it aids in the communication between nerve cells. Once myelin gets burnt up, a breakdown occurs in the nerve cells' co-ordination. Its effect is visible in the behavior (that drifts from normal to abnormal) of the individual. Along with this there appear lesions and plaques occur on that part of the body where demyelination takes place. But this is not all. Most often the cells that help in regaining myelin are even eliminated. The individual's body then succumbs to damage and disability.
2. Invoking and Provoking Multiple Sclerosis: Various conditions are deemed to invite multiple sclerosis.
• An individual's genes are the first and foremost factor that contributes to the risk of developing MS at any stage of life. Medical research reveals that the kids born of those parents where either of them has a history of MS, are largely prone to it.
• Apart from the genes, an environment change is also instrumental in causing MS.
• Viruses of diseases such as herpes, measles, flu etc. have proved to be quite effective in invoking multiple sclerosis.
• Hormones, especially the sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone have weakened the immunity system and instigated MS.
3. The Indications:
MS may be exposed differently in different people or a single person may face various symptoms. Actually, the time MS strikes the nervous system, it becomes manifested via some or the other indicator. For instance, as soon as demyelination begins, the individual may experience lack of balance of his body, tremors, a paralytic attack and so forth. Gradually, these symptoms translate to outburst of the disease.
4. The Varying Features:
According to doctors, there are differing types of multiple sclerosis. The primary is the Relapsing- Remitting MS. As the name suggests, relapsing MS is that where MS dissolves or disappears but only initially, it recurs after a span of time. After relapsing, the disease begins to catch pace and so injure the spinal cord and brain. If the nervous system starts worsening right after the inception of the symptoms, it is Progressive-Relapsing MS. Similarly there are Primary-Progressive and Secondary Progressive stages of Multiple Sclerosis. At the onset of this disease, the doctors by studying the symptoms determine or adjudicate which form it will take.
5. Diagnosing and Medication
Right after the perception of MS indicators, in order to confront the actual status of multiple sclerosis, doctors ask the individual to undergo different tests. MRI and blood tests are commonly advised to estimate the actual status of the disease. Besides the tests, medicines too are prescribed. There are quite a few good drugs available in the market such as Avonex, Rebif etc. However, MS does not seem to be cured by any of these measures then chemotherapy is the final resort. It is an extremely difficult treatment but it entails positive results.
6. Precautionary Measures:
• The best possible defence against all diseases is the intake of a rich balanced diet that strengthens the immunity system.
• If an individual has a background of diseases like hypertension, kidney issues and fluid retention etc. then the doctor ought to be ultra cautious prior to recommending any medicine. For there can be many serious hostile effects of these antibiotics.
• Those who fear MS due to appearance of some similar symptoms must go for an instant check up. Otherwise also, the people born of any of the MS parents must pay extra heed to their health ad consult doctor time and again.
• The effects of an environmental change should be carefully studied before making any trip to a foreign place.

The Cancer Cure/Resveratrol Link
by Paul Rodgers
If you're interested in the cancer cure/resveratrol link there's good news. Science is on the way to showing the beneficial effects on cancer. But don't wait 10 or more years to try it for yourself, take the worlds best nutritional supplements with 32 mg of resveratrol per tablet.
It is not only the Resveratrol and prostate cancer link which is cause all the excitement but many others too such as helping with Alzheimer's and diabetes. All this is especially great news for men, that we can potentially fight off this increasingly common disease.
Research suggests resveratrol not only reaches its intended target, injuring the nexus of malignant cells, but at the same time protects normal tissue from the harmful effects of radiation. Yes, you have a double therapeutic gain as it makes tumor cells more sensitive to radiation, and makes normal tissue less sensitive!
One study concerning Resveratrol prostate cancer treatment and prevention combined the antioxidant with other phytochemicals found in the skins of muscadine grapes. They called it muscadine grape skin extract or MSKE for short.
Muscadines (Vitis rotundifolia), are a particular grapevine species native to the present-day southeastern United States that have been cultivated extensively since the 16th Century.
Muscadine grape vines are largely immune to fungus, nematodes and bacteria and insects rarely cause any damage. Resveratrol from muscadine grapes is widely believed to cure prostate cancer. Resveratrol has many healing properties and Muscadine grapes, where it is found in abundance, were used in laboratory tests.
The antioxidant properties of the muscadine grapes have now come to the fore. It is perhaps the best fruit made available to humans for protection against a dozen ailments.
In addition, there are a group of nutrients that work in "synergy" with resveratrol to provide the greatest anti-cancer effects. These same anti-cancer affects can help protect the body from heart disease and other life-threatening diseases, in which chronic inflammation plays a role.
You should also look for a prostate health supplement that contains saw palmetto, lycopene, nettle root, zinc and red clover, both of which support the prostate's health. In order to get the most from Resveratrol and prostate cancer prevention provided by it, be sure that the supplement has an enteric coating to protect it from stomach acid. Keep watching for more Resveratrol prostate cancer news and learn about other interesting phytochemicals.
For example, Resveratrol combines well with green tea extract among others, and it is this beneficial interaction or synergy that greatly amplifies its power to fight cancer, and many other diseases. Perhaps in the future, as we become more and more aware, we could help to eradicate this deadly disease by taking preventative steps, rather than looking for a cure.
Since the resveratrol and prostate cancer benefits are often not negligible with drinking red wine, it is recommended that a multi-vitamin supplement that contains this nutrient is the best way to consume it.

The Season Of The Sneeze : Avoiding Allergies
By: William Babette
It’s that glorious time of year where the days are getting longer and the flowers are blooming. It’s been a long cold winter. There’s a palpable sense of joy as people walk down the street wearing shorts , and there’s not a jacket to be seen. But you can hear the sneezing a mile away. Spring is the season of the sneeze. It’s the price we pay for the lovely weather as trees and budding plants of all types bloom their flowers and spew their pollen for all the world to inhale. Itchy eyes and throats, runny noses and even headaches and coughs run rampant through the ranks of anyone who displays just the slightest allergy to plant borne particulates.
Even though allergies are not commonly life threatening, they can have an acute effect on quality of life. Mild allergies like hay fever are highly prevalent in the human population and cause symptoms such as allergic conjunctivitis, itchiness, and runny nose. Allergies can also play a major role in conditions such as asthma. Perhaps the most common allergy is rhinitis, or sneezing and runny nose. But in some people, severe reactions to environmental or dietary allergens or to medication may result in life-threatening anaphylactic reactions and potentially death.
Like the common cold, there is no known cure. Allergy shots can sometimes go a considerable distance to relieve symptoms, but generally speaking, shots - which desensitize the body's response to a given allergen - have a mixed record of success. Most treatments out on the market today primarily deal with the alleviation of symptoms, and not the essential cause of allergies.
The Cause of Allergies
The casual mechanisms that bring out allergic reactions are very complex and beyond the bounds of this article. But simply put, an allergy is your immune system overreacting. At its most basic level, an allergic reaction occurs when a given allergen comes into contact with the body’s mast cells and basophils. If surrounding T and B white blood cells have been sensitized to this particular allergen, the mast and basophil cells will release histamine and other inflammatory chemical mediators (cytokines, interleukins, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins) into the surrounding tissue, causing several systemic effects, such as vasodilation, mucous secretion, nerve stimulation and smooth muscle contraction. This results in rhinorrhea, itchiness, dyspnea, and anaphylaxis. Depending on the individual, allergen, and mode of introduction, the symptoms can be system-wide (as in life threatening classical anaphylaxis), or localized to particular body systems. For example, asthma is localized to the respiratory system and eczema is localized to the dermis.
Allergies can come in a broad array of categories from food allergies to drug /medication allergies as well as insect stings to even jewelry. Perhaps the most common allergies are reactions to dust, mold, pollen, and animal dander. These are also among the most difficult to control as they permeate so much of our environment. After all, we have to breathe, don’t we? But when these allergens are trapped inside a house or business their effect can be intensified. Even people who are not overtly prone to allergies can have their immune systems compromised by mold, dust mites and particulates that can remain trapped in a house. Carpets pose a particular problem, as they are notoriously difficult to keep clean. Try and vacuum carpets as often as possible. Better yet, consider hiring a professional carpet cleaning service . Professional services are markedly more effective than consumer vacuums, as they tend to use highly pressurized steam cleaning techniques, combined with very high pressure vacuuming to rid the carpet pile of built up particulates and residue.
Whether you suffer from seasonal allergies or down and dirty carpet buildup, taking a few simple, preventative measures can make the world of difference, and boost your quality of life for pennies on the dollar.

The Relationship Between Being Obese And Diabetes
By: Jeanie Smith
Health is a big asset which requires proper care and nurturing. A fit and trim body gives inner and outer confidence whereas an obese physique makes you dull and pessimistic. Obesity breeds other diseases and makes our existence uncomfortable and unpleasant. It also results in emotional suffering which is one of the most painful parts of obesity.
Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem. It's a health hazard. Someone who is grossly overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as compared to an average-weight person. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions such as diabetes and strokes
A weight increase of 11-18 pounds doubles the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in comparison to individuals who have not gained weight. According to studies, over 80 percent of people with diabetes are overweight or obese. This may account for the newly invented word, diabesity, which signifies the close association between obesity and diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes, one of most prominent ailment found in obese people reduces body's ability to control blood sugar. It is a major cause of early death, heart disease, stroke, and blindness. Overweight people are twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes compared to normal weight people. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use sugar. Sugar is the basic fuel for the cells in the body, and insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells.
The chances of its occurrence can be reduced by losing weight and exercising more. If you have type 2 diabetes, losing weight and becoming more physically active can help control your blood sugar levels. Increasing your physical activity may also allow you to reduce the amount of diabetes medication intake. Losing a small amount of weight can also reduce your chances of developing heart disease or a stroke and make your body ailment free.
Studies show that you can improve your health by losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds. Weight reduction can decrease your chance of developing several fatal ailments like heart disease, blood pressure, and levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides. So take your first step towards weight loss and make your life a healthy and energetic one.
