ป้ายกำกับ: , ,

by Wesley Beck

The meal a lot of people skip is breakfast but if you want to keep your body healthy and help you in your efforts to keep your weight in check then taking a few minutes in the morning to eat a healthy breakfast is a necessity.

When we awake each morning our body has not had food from 6 to 10 hr and has depleted nutrients it is unable to store, like protein. The body needs to be replenished and so the name break fast is a correct name for our first and most important meal. Breakfast is a very good source of energy we need to get started and function correctly through the day. Eating breakfast aids in disease prevention such as diabetes by helping maintain a balanced sugar level. It places some thing in our stomach so we are not as hungry at lunch and overeating helping prevent obesity which leads to heart disease and many other problems.

Healthy foods for breakfast like eggs, fruit, and whole grains provide important vitamins and minerals your body needs through the day. If you do not get these in the morning it will be hard to make up their loss later. Remember a body with the proper nutrients functions properly. When you eat a healthy breakfast it will help you choose healthier foods through the day continuing to provide proper nutrition.

Taking 20 minutes in the morning to eat a healthy breakfast each day can really make a hugh difference in your diet, aid in weight control and help provide nutrients you need to maintain a healthy body and function properly through the day, The best breakfast will include at least 3 food groups bread (like whole grain toast) protein (peanut butter) fruit (banana). Milk to drink will add a fourth group to your meal. Breakfast does not have to be a heavy meal every day to be healthy even a piece of fruit or a muffin is better than completely skipping our most important meal.

A quick workout to start the day will also do wonders for you. We will discuss that later.

What Are The Best Foods To Eat For Breakfast?

ป้ายกำกับ: , , , , , ,

When you eat breakfast you want to include foods from at least three of the four food groups. When combined this meal should make up about one-quarter to one-third of your total day's nutrients.

Some days you might notice that breakfast is the only meal you eat at home. This means that your breakfast should be loaded with good amounts of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Most importantly, your meal should also contain some of the following:

Milk and Milk Products

From this group choose low-fat foods like a tall glass of skim or 1 percent milk or a cup of low-fat yogurt. As an added bonus you can easily add these ingredients into a blender along with some fresh fruit to create some amazing and healthy breakfast drinks. Low-fat cheese can also be considered as a serving from this group.

Meat, Fish, Poultry and Alternates

Once more, choose a low quantity of fat food and be bold. The egg isn’t the only protein food that you have to place on the breakfast table, even though it’s a popular favorite for many families. It’s important that you watch your egg-yolk intake because of the cholesterol content, but you can easily extend your intake by incorporating plenty of egg whites, particularly in omelet’s and scrambled eggs.

Bacon and sausages should be eaten in moderation as well. You should keep an eye on the fat content of the bacon as well as the sausages.

Side bacon is pretty much saturated fat, salt, and nitrites. Back, or Canadian, bacon is a much healthier and leaner choice. It’s okay to eat this bacon occasionally. The same principle can be applied to sausages, which are high in fat. A great cooking tip to know when you’re cooking these meats is to cook them so that the fat drips off.

Have you ever tried fish for breakfast?

If you want some great fish with Omega 3 fatty-acids try different fish like kipper, or albacore tuna. Combined with a thin layer of cheese, or a whole-wheat pita they make an excellent breakfast meal.

Breads and Cereals

As always choose the whole-grain breads and cereals whenever you can. If that’s not an option your second best choice would be to get the enriched versions of refined breads.

Here’s a quick word of word of advice when you’re selecting muffins, quick breads, and breakfast pastries. That mouth watering Danish that you see in the cake section is probably overflowing with fats as well as sugar. This can also be true with many store-bought granolas and for the ridiculous amount of butter you might be tempted to smear on that healthy piece of whole-wheat bread.

Remember, breakfast is supposed to rejuvenate and give you loads of energy for your day. Consuming lots of fat and sugars will get your day off to a sluggish start.

Fruits and Vegetables

A piece of fresh fruit is the supreme choice from this food group. Raw fruit is actually better than juice because of the fiber that you’ll get. If you really can’t start your day without a glass of juice then it’ll be your second best choice. Dried fruits are great to add as toppings to hot or cold cereals, especially for women who are trying to boost their iron intake.

Why it is so Important to Eat Breakfast?

Why eat Breakfast?
Let’s dissect the word ‘breakfast’. When you take it apart you find two words with an all-important hidden message. Break – Fast. I can hear your wheels spinning on this one! That’s right, breakfast is the meal that breaks the fast that your body goes into each and every night when you sleep.
When breakfast is skipped, your body continues to fast until you eat later in the day.

This is a problem for two reasons.

Problem #1: Your brain needs fuel to function at its peak. This fuel comes in the form of glucose derived from food and is needed to walk, talk and perform all other activities. When you skip breakfast your brain is forced to work extra hard in breaking down stored carbohydrates or to turn fats and proteins into usable forms of glucose. Eating breakfast has been proven to improve concentration, increase your problem solving capabilities, enhance overall mental performance and even boosts your memory and mood.

Problem #2: Your metabolism will go into ‘famine’ mode. Three to four hours after you eat, your metabolism shuts down and acts as if it needs to store food. This is a great function to have if a famine were to break out, leaving you without food for days. Since this is likely not the case for you, it is pretty annoying when your body starts packing on the pounds in an attempt to protect you from starvation! Eating breakfast communicates with your body the fact that you are healthy, well fed and not in need of extra fat storage.

What about the cut calories?
“Skipping breakfast is how I cut calories out of my diet.” I can’t tell you how often I hear this response when I encourage people to eat breakfast. What these “calorie cutters” don’t realize is that they are the ones who turn to snacking later in the day in an attempt to ward off low energy levels. Allowing your body to become over-hungry leads to distorted satiety signals, and leaves the door wide open for overeating later in the day.
Start your day with breakfast and then continue to eat smaller meals and snacks throughout the day for optimal calorie burning.

What’s for Breakfast?
Now that you are convinced that breakfast is worth your time, it’s time to decide what to have! A recent study done by FoodWatch, a Minnesota-based consulting firm that watches food trends, revealed that most people are basically eating dessert for breakfast, due to the high quantities of on-the-go breakfast foods that are processed, packaged and pumped full of refined carbohydrates. Another study recently proved that high fiber, low fat breakfasts promote healthy weight control much more effectively than highly refined breakfast foods.
Try the following On-The-Go Breakfast Selections for a blend of hearty carbohydrates, protein and fat and experience optimal morning energy.

• Low Fat Yogurt with Fresh Fruit
• Low Fat Cottage Cheese and a Cherry Oatmeal Muffin
• Hard Boiled Egg and Whole Wheat Toast
• Scrambled Egg White on Half a Bagel
• Whole Wheat Tortilla rolled with Scrambled Egg Beaters and Salsa
• Soy Milk with Whole Grain Cereal and Fresh Fruit
