MS or Multiple Sclerosis is in the first place a life long chronic disease. Many people have been victims of this disorder. According to some studies, MS is an autoimmune disease triggers the immune system to attack the body's myelin. Myelin is a fatty protein that acts as an insulating matter for nerves. When this protein becomes damaged, messages from the brain and spinal cord get "short-circuited". Inflammation then occurs in various areas of the body, and when this occurs, symptoms worsen and at time, new symptoms develop.

As mentioned earlier, many people suffered form this disease. It was reported that twice as many women as men have multiple sclerosis. There is actually no evidence that MS is directly inherited, but there is considered a predisposition to the illness among the family members.

Being so serious, MS gained interest from a number of people around the world. Both those who suffer and non-victims of MS were encouraged to find out some facts about multiple sclerosis. Inhalant Variations in Managing COPD

ป้ายกำกับ: , , ,

By Chrissy & Company

As the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) is a significant health concern for many adults. In most cases, individuals who are diagnosed with COPD commonly experience a pre-existing history of asthma and tobacco smoke exposure. For individuals diagnosed with COPD, it is important to pursue medical treatment early so as to offset the long term health complications.

Medications are the primary source of treatment for the COPD patient. Because COPD is a progressive disorder of the lungs, the use of prescription medications is important in the early stage of disease and adherence to dosing regimens is also important. Without proper medication management, and compliance in treatment, the complications of COPD will progressive rather quickly.

If you, or someone you love, suffers from complications of COPD, it is important to understand what your treatment options will be. In most cases, treatment will begin with either a short or long-acting inhalant. Dosed as an anticholinergic, most COPD patients use long-acting inhalants such as Spiriva. If, however, you engage in more regular physical activity, and need assistance with sleeping complications, a short-acting anticholinergic may also be prescribed.

In addition to anticholinergic inhalants, physicians are also prescribing Beta 2 agonists as part of the COPD treatment program. Unlike anticholinergic, when using Beta 2 agonists, the use of short-acting agents is often more effective. If your physician is considering the use of this type of inhalant, in treating your COPD, be certain that you discuss the risks and potential complications associated with Beta 2 agonists as they may lead to cardiovascular complications.

Corticosteroids are also quite common in the inhalant form for COPD patients. While corticosteroids are generally limited to those patients with severe COPD, many physicians consider prescribing this inhalant to reduce the complications when secondary health complications exist. For example, in COPD patients with upper respiratory infection, the use of corticosteroid inhalants is usually associated with illness.

As with any form of treatment when managing a progressive and chronic disease, it is important to understand your treatment options and role of each prescription medication. With COPD, the use of inhalants is quite common, although types are varied. Understanding the implication for each inhalant will serve to improve your long term health outcomes through compliance and management of symptoms. If you suffer from COPD, ask your healthcare professional about the effective use of inhalants and the basis on which each is prescribed for your lung condition.
