DIM - The Key In Preventing Estrogen-Generated Cancer in Both Sexes
Did you know for decades the FDA has allowed estrogens in your food?
Sure estrogens may preserve our food, kill insects and make farm animals grow big and fat incredibly fast. But these benefits are for the food producer but neglect your health the consumer.
In women, this excess amount of estrogen causes anxiety, worsens premenstrual symptoms and increases risks of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts and breast cancer. It's also responsible for the dramatic worsening of menopause symptoms in modern times.
For men, the excess amount of estrogen relentlessly signals their prostates to grow. It causes feminization, weakness and fatigue and worsens the loss of virility that occurs with age. It appears to be nature's plan to gradually withdraw masculine capabilities as we grow old. But now men are living longer yet losing virility younger than ever. This combination of trends is creating a whole generation of "avirile" tired old men. And some of them aren't that old. The fast pace of this trend occurring in younger and younger guys is alarming.
If I look at the list of clients I saw last week, I'll bet at least 10 had problems related to excess estrogen. For some the level was so high and the medical consequences so severe that prescription medications were necessary and those clients were referred to their primary physicians. (The pharmaceutical industry developed these medications to treat estrogen-dependent breast cancers.) But for most, I used a nutritional solution.
This nutritional solution is the same one I've been using for years, it's safe and simple.
The first step to combat your involuntary dosing with estrogens is simply to eat more "crucifers". Crucifers are a group of vegetables including broccoli, Brussels's sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage.
When you eat a vegetable like broccoli, your body breaks down the broccoli's glucobrassicin into a compound called indole-3-carbinol (I3C). I3C plays an active role in flushing your body of cancer-causing chemicals. I3C is naturally broken down in your digestive tract to DIM (diindolylmethane). DIM is a key to prevent estrogen-generated cancers in men and women.
DIM clears rogue steroids into your urine. These steroids cause cancers to grow in both men and women. Breast, cervical, and prostate cancers all fit this scenario. We have known that these cancer cells grow slower in the presence of DIM for several years. Many animal and human studies have focused on breast, uterine, and cervical cancer. All have had positive results. Cancer cell growth slows down when introduced to DIM.
But the most impressive result is from a recent Journal of Biological Chemistry. University of California, Berkeley researchers discovered that when DIM was administered to prostate cancer cells, they stopped growing. And the cancer cells were reduced by 70%.
The most natural way to get DIM is through eating cruciferous vegetables. They have an abundance of I3C, vitamins, and other nutrients. Try to eat cruciferous vegetables at least daily. I find this easy to do if I plan my meals ahead of time.
You can also take DIM as a supplement. I usually start clients with a 100 mg DIM capsule. 2 capsules can provide the DIM equivalent to a pound of vegetables. DIM can be purchased at your local health food store or online.

How to Deal with Hot Flashes Without a Prescription
By uncgrad
Hot flashes are a common part of menopause. It has been estimated that 60% of women will experience them. There are ways to deal with hot flashes, however.
Hot flashes are vasomotor symptoms, meaning biochemical events resulting from your body's temperature control being "off". Basically your body thinks it's overheated but it's not. Your blood vessels then quickly discharge what your body perceives as heat.
Fabrics You Wear
Nylon, spandex, and close-knit polyester trap body heat, which is definitely not what you want to have on when you get a hot flash. Avoiding nylon pajamas and satin or polyester sheets will help with night sweats.
Exercise
Regular exercise may reduce the number of hot flashes you get. It can also decrease how long each one lasts.
Cold Compresses or Water
Cold compresses or cool water can help stop a hot flash. This can also help keep one you just had from coming back. The inside of the wrist, inside of elbows and the back of your neck are good places to apply a cold compress. Applying to either side of your groin can help with a hot flash too.
Stay Away from Hot Water
Hot showers and hot tubs raise your body temperature, which can stimulate a hot flash, so steer clear of these.
Paced Breathing
When in the middle of a hot flash, paced breathing can be key. The North American Menopause Society has shown that women who practice steadied breathing had many fewer hot flashes - 50% less.
Smelling Flowers
Even smelling flowers can help. Some scents calm the body, like roses, vanilla, lavender, lemongrass, geranium, ylang-ylang and clary sage.
Don't Smoke
Smokers may also experience more hot flashes, especially for thinner women. Cutting down on smoking will help but quitting is even better. Smoking triggers body changes that cause earlier, more frequent, and more intense hot flashes.
Herbal Supplements or Vitamins
Incorporating herbal supplements or vitamins into your diet can help, but you should consult your doctor before making a diet change. Vitamin E has been used to help with hot flashes but there's no concrete evidence it helps and it may be linked to breast cancer. Bioflavinoids have some of the same benefits as estrogen. Black Cohosh, an herb, may help with hot flashes.
Stay Away from Caffeine, Spicy Food or Alcohol
Some women have found that caffeine, spicy food or alcohol trigger their hot flashes. Avoiding these may help. Adding soy to your diet can help as well, but it may not be a good option for those at risk for breast cancer. As always, check with your doctor before making a serious diet change.

Hormone Disorder Could Be Caused by Sugar
By Patty Oh
Here's another reason to reduce the amount of sugar you eat. Researchers have determined that if you eat too much sugar, the gene that regulates your levels of estrogen and testosterone can be turned off. In a recent press release, the BC Children's Hospital Foundation said that this discovery would help physicians when they are diagnosing hormone disorders. Common hormone disorders include PCOS, and type 2 diabetes.
Prior to this discovery, doctors assumed that insulin contributed to the reduction of the gene that regulates our hormones, SHBG, in our bodies. Physicians had come to this conclusion because pre-diabetic, overweight people typically had both a low level of SHBG and a high level of insulin.
This groundbreaking study proves that how our liver metabolizes sugar is what affects SHBG, not our insulin level. Researchers said that physicians can now use the SHBG amounts in our blood to monitor how our liver is functioning.
Armed with this information, physicians can intervene long before problems become apparent.
How the liver is involved
Sugars are metabolized in the liver. When someone eats too much sugar, their liver changes the sugar from sugar into fat (a lipid). When our bodies have too many fats, SHBG gene shuts down.
About the SHBG gene
Our bodies have a gene referred to as the SHBG, or sex hormone binding globulin gene. This gene regulates the amount estrogen and testosterone that our bodies produce.
When the SHBG gene shuts down, our body senses that it does not have enough hormones, and produces more testosterone and estrogen, regardless of the current levels of testosterone and estrogen currently in our system.
Having an excessive amount of these hormones puts us at risk of infertility, uterine cancer, acne, and polycystic ovaries.
Abnormal amounts of SHBG genes are also implicated in several other diseases, including cardiovascular disease and a person's risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
"We discovered that low levels of SHBG in a person's blood means the liver's metabolic state is out of whack - because of inappropriate diet or something that's inherently wrong with the liver - long before there are any disease symptoms," said Dr. Geoffrey Hammond, the scientific director of the Child & Family Research Institute in Vancouver, Canada, and professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of British Columbia.
Sugars
Both fructose and glucose are sugars. Fructose and glucose are used to make table sugar. Fructose is also a common ingredient in hundreds of food products, including syrups, low-fat products, and sweetened beverages.

Ovarian Cysts and Endometriosis Treatment
Endometriosis is a condition caused by excess estrogen created each month in the female body. Endometriosis affect an estimated 89 million women (usually around 30 to 40 years of age who have never been pregnant before) of reproductive age around the world. Endometriosis can also cause scar tissue and adhesions to develop that can distort a woman’s internal anatomy. It is estimated that 30-40% of women with endometriosis are infertile. Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (the endometrial stroma and glands. Endometrial cells are the same cells that are shed each month during menstruation. The most common symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain. Other symptoms may include diarrhoea or constipation (in particular in connection with menstruation) ,abdominal bloating heavy or irregular bleeding and fatigue.
Ovarian cysts are enlargements of the ovary that appear to be filled with fluid. The ovaries are two organs — each about the size and shape of an almond — located on each side of a woman's uterus. Small cysts are formed outside of the ovary, which enlarge and produce endometriosis of the ovary. Hormone stimulation during the menstrual cycle produces many small cysts that eventually occupy the normal ovarian tissue. Ovarian cysts can be categorized as noncancerous or cancerous growths. All of the following are noncancerous ovarian growths or cysts. A woman may develop 1 or more of them.Cysts are painful and potentially harmful conditions. They are an important cause of pain in the lower abdomen ( pain in area below the belly button).
Treatment options for endometriosis can depend on your age. Surgery is one of the most effective methods of treating endometriosis so long as all the endo has been removed from the offending areas. Danazol therapy should be started when the patient is menstruating. Testosterone derivatives are another medication that was developed just for endometriosis. Hysterectomy – the uterus is removed, along with endometrial implants, cysts and adhesions. Major Surgery. For severe cases of endometriosis, major surgery used to be the mainstay to remove thick adhesions and excise endometriomas (endometriotic cysts of the ovary). Surgery to remove most of the endometrial patches followed by hormone treatment may be better at long-term easing of symptoms than just surgery alone. Some women with endometriosis who want to have children may need fertility treatment.
Endometriosis Treatment Tips
1. Surgical treatment is the preferred approach to infertile patients with advanced endometriosis.
2. Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) suppress LH and FSH and prevent ovulation.
3. Gestrinone is similar to danazol, but you only need to take it twice a week rather than daily.
4. Birth control pills help shrink endometrial tissue and improve pain for most women.
5. Stronger hormone therapy such as therapy with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a), high-dose progestin.
6. Caffeine, sugar and alcohol are the three most often cited items that women have removed from their diets.

Balance Estrogen Naturally with Diindolylmethane (DIM)
By: Darrell Miller-1603
Have you ever noticed the difference between men and women’s ability to lose weight? A man can simply stop eating junk food and two weeks later will have lost ten pounds. On the other hand, after hours in a gym and weeks of calorie counting many women will have not lost a pound. The main reason for this huge difference is an imbalance of too much estrogen as compared to lower levels of progesterone, which is called estrogen dominance. This imbalance leads to weight gain and obesity, as well as cervical dysplasia, breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers. Up until now, women have been told that the only way to treat a hormone related health problem is to take additional hormones. However, the correct answer is finding a balance of hormones, which can be done by using diindolylmethane (DIM), a powerful nutrient that is found in broccoli, cauliflower and other vegetables that have a direct effect on hormone balance. This does not mean that eating broccoli will eliminate estrogen dominance. When broccoli is chewed, plant enzymes are activated that release healthy compounds. However, many of these compounds are too unstable to constantly provide health benefits. In turn, these unstable compounds lead to the release of diindolylmethane, which is a very stable compound. Although broccoli is a very nutritious vegetable, we would have to eat at least two pounds of broccoli each and every day in order to get the adequate amounts of DIM. Thanks to ongoing research, the development of a stable pure DIM dietary supplement with special absorption enhancing formulas has been created. These DIM supplements can easily and efficiently restore hormonal balance and eliminate the symptoms of estrogen dominance.
The estrogen hormone tells cells in the body to grow. Throughout our lives, estrogen has important a vital functions such as orchestrating menstruation from the time we reach puberty through the time we reach menopause, keeping our bones strong, and maintaining low cholesterol levels. Estrogen is made in our ovaries and then sent through our bloodstream, where it comes in contact with every cell in our body. However, only certain cells with estrogen receptors will respond to its presence.
Estrogen dominance is characterized by an abundance of symptoms. Some of these symptoms include: mood swings, feeling anxious, painful periods, sore breasts, hot flashes, night sweats, foggy thinking, low libido, problematic PMS, and stubborn weight gain. It can begin by exposure to estrogen mimics (xenoestrogens), which are certain chemicals in the environment such as pesticides, plastics, soaps, emulsifiers, household cleaning products, and even car exhaust. These estrogen mimics look and act enough like natural estrogens that our body accepts them as estrogen. They latch on to estrogen receptors on cancer cells, and signal the cancer cell to grow and divide, making the cancer spread. They can also latch onto estrogen receptors on healthy cells and send false signals, or block the natural estrogen hormone from binding to its receptor, causing more estrogen to circulate in the bloodstream. Estrogen dominance can also be caused by a slow estrogen metabolism. If the rate of the metabolism that breaks down estrogen after they complete the activity on their target cells is too slow, an excess of unmetabolized estrogen is left circulating the body.
Researchers have also discovered that estrogen can be metabolized in two different pathways in the liver, which results in two different kinds of estrogen, “good” and “bad” estrogen. “Good” estrogen metabolites are released into the bloodstream there they cause many of the benefits estrogen provides, such as prevention of heart disease, and strong, healthy bones. “Bad” estrogen, in large quantities, can result in many health problems including autoimmune disorders, breast cancer, cervical dysplasia, clinical depression, fibroid tumors, infertility, magnesium deficiency, osteoporosis, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, and zinc deficiency.
When dealing with estrogen dominance, it is not a good idea to take more progesterone to even out hormonal balance. Taking more progesterone won’t necessarily restore hormonal balance. Rather, it might be metabolized into more estrogen, resulting in an even greater hormonal imbalance and greater estrogen dominance. Instead, one should take the DIM supplement, which improves hormonal balance and eliminated estrogen dominance by shifting the way that estrogen is metabolized in our body. This creates more “good” estrogen metabolites and less “bad” estrogen metabolites. Although it does not increase or decrease estrogen levels, it directs how the estrogen is metabolized.
Research has suggested that DIM may also help to prevent breast cancer. After studying a group of women for periods up to nineteen years, the women who developed breast cancer were noted to have a significantly lower ratio of “good” estrogen metabolites as compared to “bad” estrogen metabolites. In comparison, those who did not develop breast cancer had a high ratio of “good” estrogen metabolites to “bad” estrogen metabolites. Scientists have determined that DIM actually inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It enhances the activity of enzymes found in certain pathways of the liver, which are important for the healthy estrogen metabolism that reduces the risk of cancer development.
When buying a DIM supplement, it is suggested that you read the label of the DIM product you’re going to buy. Be certain that you are getting 120 mg of DIM complex, which is standardized to 30 mg DIM per dose. Because DIM is very hard to absorb, the products needs to be in a specialized complex that improves bioavailability. Although most women only need one dose of DIM per day, women suffering with a large amount of estrogen dominance symptoms may find greater relief by doubling the dose and taking DIM twice a day. Because some women may have a minor stomach ache after taking DIM, taking the supplement with food will eliminate the problem. Research of DIM’s safety has shown no harmful effects, even when the doses were at hundreds of times the amount provided in the supplements. A common side effect of DIM is a harmless changing of the color of your urine. Because these changes can occur when you eat a large amount of broccoli or asparagus also, drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day will solve the problem.
If you have estrogen dominance, adding more hormones will only put you at a greater risk for cancer. Instead, restore your hormonal balance by taking the powerful, all-natural DIM supplement. DIM can be found at your local Health Food Store or Internet Health Food Store.

Anti-Aging Supplements are great nutritional vitamins, start repairing your body so you can start living a new healthy lifestyle
In the past many people believed that as long as you ate a healthy diet you would not need to buy and take any anti-aging supplements. Most people tend to think that they will get all of the minerals and other vitamins that they need from their diet; however, there are actually very few people in the world who actually get all of the nutrients that they need just by eating a healthy diet. Most people do need anti-aging nutritional supplements to help them get the nutrients and vitamins that they need in order to fight of various diseases and help to slow down the aging process. Taking these anti-aging nutritional supplements can actually help your body to have the right levels to help protect yourself from toxins and other free radicals that may speed up the aging process or lead to diseases.
When your body starts to age there are a variety of things that begin to change. Bones begin to get more brittle, you start losing some of your muscle, and you also may have a harder time fighting off diseases and injuries probably occur more often. It can be difficult to get the anti-aging nutrients that you need by diet alone, which is why most people can benefit from taking anti-aging vitamin supplements. When you take these supplements no doubt you will benefit from having more energy, a clearer mind, and better moods as well. They will also help you to avoid getting various illnesses and diseases as well, which will improve your chances of living longer.
Benefits of Anti-aging Supplements
Many people are searching for ways that they can stop aging from occurring. One way that can help the process from going so quickly is to take anti-aging nutritional supplements. However, it is important to realize that your body will age and that you can only do your best to get the nutrition that you need to help make the process a graceful one. There are a variety of different supplements that you can take that will help your body such as flax seed oil, fish oil, green tea, omega 3's, and even grape seed extracts as well.
As your body begins to get older, there are some things that you can do to help your body out. One thing that your body produces is DHEA. This is the basic building block of both estrogen and testosterone within the body. It also helps to build up the brain and the immune system too. Other hormones also provide you with strong bones, healthy skin, and even a healthy sex drive. You may also have to help out your thyroid as well. Many people find that as they age their thyroid does not work as it should and they have to see their doctor for medication to help. The body also creates what is called HGH, or the human growth hormone. This hormone is important to the entire body and helps to stimulate growth. As you get older these levels tend to decrease, but there are now new HGH anti-aging supplements that have been designed by scientists. These new anti-aging nutritional supplements can actually stop the aging process and some problems may even be reversed as well. Much of the damage to your body can be reversed if you take this anti-aging supplement, such as the low energy, wrinkles, weight gain, and even loss of muscle mass.
Choosing the Right Anti-Aging Supplement
It is important that you make the right choice when you are picking out an anti-aging nutritional supplement. There are a variety of different supplements to choose from, but you will want to look for one that offers you a variety of different vitamins and minerals in one pill supplement. A good anti-aging nutritional supplement should include all of your important B Vitamins, such as B12, B2, B6 and folic acid. It should also include Vitamin D and Vitamin K as well. Also look to make sure that the anti-aging supplement also contains Selenium, miacin, Zinc, iron, copper, and magnesium.
A Few anti aging Tips
The following are a few important tips when you are picking out your anti-aging vitamin supplements.
Tip #1 - Make sure that the supplement you choose gives you between 100-300% of your daily value of the nutrients that are included in the nutritional supplement.
Tip #2 - Avoid purchasing vitamins that are chelated, time release, or colloidal minerals. These usually will cost you more money and may not do what they are supposed to.
Tip #3 - Avoid purchasing vitamin supplements with extra ingredients that you do not need, such as lipoid acid, enzymes, or inositol. These things will cost you more money and offer not value to you.
Tip #4 - Be sure to take extra calcium and magnesium as well. Most anti-aging nutritional supplements will not have enough of these ingredients in them.
Tip #5 - Potassium, phosphorus, and choline can be ignored when you are choosing an anti-aging supplement because most people actually get enough of these nutrients from diet alone.
Remember that taking care of your body is important. You can help out your body in a huge way by taking a variety of anti-aging vitamins and minerals and making sure that you get plenty of Vitamin E and Vitamin C, which can greatly help you get rid of toxins and free radicals. Exercising, eating a great diet, and making sure that you take your anti-aging nutritional supplements on a regular basis can help you feel great, have more energy, and improve the way you look.

The Best Thing About Supplements for Healthy Skin

By: Lac Tran
It’s funny that we spend our teen years trying to look older, and then when we get older, we want to try and look younger. Many people don’t realize that with a little attention to details, they can slow the onslaught of aging and health deterioration by eating right, exercising daily and taking care of overall health.
Taking nutritional supplements of vitamins, minerals and some herbs go a lot further to providing anti-aging benefits than many expensive face creams and ointments.
Take Vitamin A for example. This handy vitamin treats acne and contains anti-aging benefits in the form of Retin-A, and smoothes out wrinkles and improves skin texture by plumping skin cells and revitalizing growth of collagen. Vitamin B-complex is also great for skin care, as is Vitamin E. Vitamin E and A should be taken together to provide optimal benefits, for their both work and react together to keep skin tissues healthy. In addition, Vitamin E has been found to drastically reduce the number of wrinkles and improve skin texture in guided laboratory tests in recent years. And believe it or not, Vitamin C is not just for colds. This vitamin packs a punch and enables the body to fight inflammation, prevent free-radical damage (the bad stuff that causes cell destruction) and acts as an anti-oxidant that helps create collagen. No need to get those injections, just get your vitamin nutritional supplements!
Many women fighting the battle against aging are also taking estrogen nutritional supplements, which helps to reduce dryness of the skin and reduces fine wrinkles. One of the best things people can to do prevent skin conditions and premature aging is to resist the urge to sunbathe and to always wear sun block with outside, especially during the hot summer months. Nutritional supplements that contain the right mixtures of many vitamins and minerals help to protect the skin against many free radicals that can cause skin damage, and even some cancers. Free radicals are also the enemy to youthful, fresh looking skin, and causes accelerated rates of aging in many. Vitamins and minerals like Vitamins E and C, as well as the mineral Selenium help to decrease the harmful effect of the sun on skin cells and can help to prevent further damaging.
In fact, doctors have noted that the use of selenium nutritional supplements shows promising results in the fight against skin cancer as well as several other types of cancer. Taken orally, supplements of 50 to 200 micrograms daily can offer interior protection against those damaging rays. Be advised however, that taking some nutritional supplements, while helping to protect the skin, are not by any means to be considered as a replacement to sun block lotions or creams, nor as an anti-cancer drug.
Because today’s generation is more aware of the damages of sun worshiping than our parents and grandparents were, it is possible that, due to the use of skin protection and proper use of nutritional supplements and minerals that this generation may actually see a reduction in the number of melanoma and other skin cancer cases diagnosed and treated this decade.
Proper skin care means watching the health of your skin, and protecting and nourishing it on a daily basis. A good nutritional supplement such as a multi vitamin can do wonders not only for your insides but your outsides as well.
