How to Prevent the 8 Deadly Diseases of the Western World

ป้ายกำกับ:

A warning is definitely needed for the Western world, particularly for people eating food out of grocery stores and restaurants. Know anyone like that?

Like the aristocrats of ancient Rome, many Americans are literally eating themselves to an early death. I feel that with a little bit of basic knowledge, supported by statistics and research from the cutting edge of health and science, people can take some simple steps and put the odds of living a longer healthier life back in their favor. There are 8 major diseases that have been sweeping the land since the 1940's. All of them were virtually unheard of at the turn of the 20th century.

I started to do some of my own research, because I am one of those 77 million baby boomers born between 1946 and 1964, that is quickly aging & I want to preserve my health as long as possible.

There is a lot of contradictory information available, which is why so many people are confused about what to do to maintain their health. I've heard people say things like: "there's so much contradiction out there, who knows what to believe anymore--I'll just eat what I want and take my chances".

Incredibly, some of the so-called studies I read were funded by the very industries that were directly affected by the results! For example, how serious do we take a study on the effects of pesticide use, when it is funded by a pesticide manufacturing company? Or how about a study on the effects of dairy products on asthma and allergy patients that was funded by the Dairy Council of America?

I call this "junk" science. They start out with a proposition to prove, and then they find a way to manipulate the data in order to prove it! I decided to sift through the science and only qualify studies where the funding source was disconnected from an interested party.

In addition, I started studying people who were healthy themselves and maybe had overcome personal illness through holistic healing or natural remedies, people who had experienced definite, verifiable results (like me), using alternative medicine. There has always been something about our "drugs and surgery" approach to health care that never made sense to me. During my research I found a huge number of people that supported the idea that good health resulted from right choices with regard to food, nutrition, water, exercise and rest. Using a combination of carefully filtered scientific studies, stories, and good old common sense, I found that if the body is given those five elements in the proper form and amount, the body can solve almost any problem.

Most of us assume we are living longer, because the longevity stats have gone way up in the last 100 years. But the sad truth is that because these 8 diseases are growing so fast, we are actually living shorter...but taking longer to die. Our technology keeps us alive longer, but we sacrifice the quality of life in the process. Can there really be dignity when our elderly spend months or even years in a vegetative state hooked up to a machine?

What about the economic impact of this trend?

I used to think that normal aging was the same for everybody. You get one of the eight deadly diseases, and then you slowly die. Imagine my surprise when I learned that heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, is a relatively new disease! The first modern cases were reported in 1912, and even then it was extremely rare. Today heart disease kills four times as many American women each year as breast cancer. For 300,000 people each year, the first and only symptom of heart disease is sudden death. How did it go from almost non-existent to the number one spot?

What about cancer? Only 3% of us died of cancer a hundred years ago. Today, almost 30% of us will succumb to it. The 1909 edition of the standard U.S. textbook, Principles and Practice of Medicine, devoted only 15 pages to cancer. Breast and prostate cancers were not even mentioned; colon cancer received 2 lines. In contrast, the 1994 edition of Principles of Internal Medicine devoted 174 pages to this affliction.

Stroke, which killed only a very few people a hundred years ago, is today the number three deadly disease killer of Americans.

Alzheimer's wasn't even diagnosed until 1907. Today, 40% of those over 85 are suffering from it.

Diabetes has increased 600% in just the last generation. Each year, Diabetes kills more than twice as many American women as breast cancer.

Over 40 million Americans suffer with some form of Arthritis or Osteoporosis. Ask any American woman what disease she fears most and she'll probably say breast cancer. Yet hip fractures kill more women than cancers of the breast, cervix and uterus combined.

Finally, there are the auto immune disorders like chronic fatigue syndrome, Epstein-Barr virus, lupus, fibromyalgia, and AIDS. I lump them into one big category, and this group is growing like wildfire in the US right now. 20 years ago, they didn't even have names for most of this stuff and many of them were written off by doctors as psycho-sematic. But the harsh symptoms of these auto-immune disorders are currently wreaking havoc on the health of tens of thousands of Americans, and in the case of AIDS, are killing people at an alarming rate.

Obviously, something has gone terribly wrong here, and it's happened in our lifetime. But we're acting as if all of these diseases are just a part of the normal aging process! Not so! There is nothing normal or natural about degenerative disease. We have convinced ourselves it is normal as a way of dealing with the terrible new reality of sickness and disease in the modern world.

Many of these deaths are totally unnecessary.

And that's the tragedy. When a plane crashes and a few hundred people die, it makes the front page news for days. But when a million people die of heart disease or a half a million die of cancer, you would think there would be more of an outcry. It's the equivalent of a jumbo jet full of people crashing every single hour of every single day of every single month for an entire year, year after year.

How long do you plan on living? To what age? 70? 80? 90? 100+? What do you think is reasonable? Now, take that figure and add 10 extra healthy years to it. What if you could live to 100 and beyond without the pain and disease that most people think comes with old age?

Today the average person lives to about 76. That's 79 for women and 72 for men. But in certain areas of the world centenarians are common. We have only lately started to uncover why.

Today, the risk of dying of any thing before you are 40 is really very small. But starting at 40, you enter the zone of the 8 deadly diseases. How deadly are they? They kill more than 80% of us, which is sad because the majority of the time they are preventable.

In summary food, nutrition, water, exercise and rest are the keys to enjoying the highest level of optimum health for many years after we thought possible.

See you at my hundredth birthday party, will you be there?

Preventing and Treating Allergy Symptoms with Medication

ป้ายกำกับ:

Do you have allergies? Whether you have seasonal allergies or you are allergic to certain situations, such as being exposed to animal dander, coping with allergy symptoms can be quite difficult. Not only are allergy symptoms uncomfortable, they can slow you down during the day and interrupt with your sleep cycle. Therefore, it is important to know how to recognize allergy symptoms and to know what to do in order to alleviate the symptoms you experience.

Recognizing Allergy Symptoms

Since there are so many different types of allergens and because everyone's body reacts differently to these allergens, allergy symptoms can differ from person to person. Nonetheless, there are several different signs and symptoms that are commonly associated with allergies and may signal that you have allergies.

Some of the most common allergy symptoms include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Congestion
  • Cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Dizziness
  • Itchy and watery eyes
  • Itchy skin
  • Mental confusion
  • Problems breathing
  • Rash
  • Vomiting

Whether or not you experience these symptoms will depend upon the type of allergy and how you make contact with the allergen. Physical contact with an allergen, for example, is more likely to cause rashes and itching, while inhaling the allergen is more likely to cause breathing problems.

Coping with Allergy Symptoms

Depending upon the type of allergy you have, you may be able to prevent allergy symptoms by taking certain types of allergy medicine. If you have seasonal allergies, for example, you might want to discuss the issue with your doctor and begin taking a prescription allergy medicine that will help prevent allergy symptoms from developing. If you are allergic to animals, on the other hand, you may want to talk to your doctor about prescribing an allergy medicine that you can take before being exposed to the known allergen.

Of course, you can't always prevent an allergic reaction. Sometimes, you may find yourself unexpectedly exposed to allergens. In this case, you will need to treat the allergy symptoms after they develop. It is important to keep in mind that you can only treat the symptoms when they occur rather than "curing" the allergy. Therefore, you should search for medication that will help alleviate the symptoms you are experiencing. If you have a rash, for example, you will need to use a topical ointment to treat the rash. If you are experiencing diarrhea and vomiting, on the other hand, make certain to stay hydrated and to seek medical attention if you cannot get the symptoms under control.

What Are Clinical Research Trials For Cancer?

ป้ายกำกับ:

By Laura Guthrie

For many people the very word cancer conjures up images of an incurable disease, possibly one that is terminal. Worse still it is commonly believed that many of the treatments for cancer are almost as bad as the disease itself. The most often applied medical interventions include medications, chemotherapy, radiation treatments and surgeries. While cancer is nothing that any of us wish to have to face it is important to know that there are many treatment options available and that at any time there are also a significant number of clinical trials that are going on that are working on developing promising new treatments for the disease.

When medications or other treatments are developed there is a long process before the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) releases the treatment or drug to the general public. Strict laws govern the testing and development phases to insure the safety of the consumer. Before any new medication or medical technique can be tested on humans in clinical research trials it will first be tested on animals and with other lab techniques. These techniques can include in-vitro and tissue testing, among other methods. Many potential treatments never make it past this stage for a variety of reasons.

Those that do, however, will be slated for a clinical research trial. Clinical research trials involve human participants who are willing to be given an experimental treatment. The hope is that not only will the trial participants benefit from this treatment but that it will be successful and consequently benefit untold numbers of other patients in the future. There are three different phases of clinical research testing.

In Phase 1 the new drug is administered to a very small number of people in order to assess the safety of the drug in humans. Side effects will also be noted. The 70% of drugs that pass this phase move onto Phase 2.

Phase 2 studies will test for the effectiveness of the medication in treating what it is designed to treat. In these studies generally a portion of the participants will be given the real drug while the rest receive a placebo. Only about 1/3 of drugs make it through this phase of testing.

Phase 3 testing involves a much larger group of patients and continues testing for safety, side effects and effectiveness of the medication. This phase of testing often lasts for many years. If a drug successfully passes through these three stages a pharmaceutical company may then apply to the Food and Drug Administration for approval. Clinical trials can be a wonderful opportunity for patients to get innovative new treatments that might not otherwise be available. However one must weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

First of all patients participating in a Phase 2 study are not guaranteed to even receive the medication but may be part of the placebo group. In this case, they will not benefit from the trial, except through knowing that they are helping to get a new treatment out to others who may benefit from it. Additionally, because these medications have not yet been approved by the FDA there is, of course, a risk of side effects.

These side effects may not show up immediately as it is often years after a drug is released into the market before some of them are seen. For cancer patients for whom currently available treatments are not working, however, a clinical trial may offer a better chance of recovery.

Understanding child heart disease

ป้ายกำกับ:

By: Mach Yam

Heart disease is a disorder, which affect the proper functioning of the heart. Child heart disease is common affecting many newborn and older children. This article examines the various child heart diseases and their treatment.

Congenital Heart Disease
Heart disease is a serious ailment and often leads to premature death. Many children can also suffer from heart disease. Child heart disease is actually quite a common worldwide. When a child is born with an existing defect in the heart, it is called congenital heart disease. Congenital heart disease is fairly. It affects almost one percent of all newborn.

Often, the first diagnosis of child heart disease is made during routine examination when the pediatrician detects heart murmur. Heart murmur is the noise that the blood makes as it flows through the heart. Heart murmurs are fairly common in children. It is not necessarily a sign of child heart disease.

If a heart murmur is due to a problem in a child's heart, it is caused either by a hole in the heart, a leaky heart valve, or constricted heart valve. To confirm the diagnosis, an examination by a pediatric cardiologist is necessary. Pediatric specializes in child heart disease.

Abnormalities of the heart may or may not be noticeable at birth. For example, a hole in the heart wall will allows blood to travel from one side to the other. In such case, the baby may have blue lips or fingers. This is one of the signs of child heart disease.

Another example of child heart disease is an abnormal heart valve, which allow blood to flow in the opposite direction. Such a problem will usually require surgery once the child is older.
Congenital heart disease must be treated promptly or it will lead to more serious complications. Hence, early detection is important. Unfortunately, many heart defects are not detected at birth resulting in more damage to the heart and requiring more extensive treatment.
Some forms of congenital heart disease are actually self-healing. However, in many cases, major surgery will be required to rectify the problems.

While there are risks associated with surgery, the chances of full recovery and a normal life are very high. So the situation is not hopeless.

Connection between Premature Infants and Heart Disease
A baby is considered premature if born before 37 weeks. Most premature babies are born with some form of heart problem. A premature infant's organs are also not fully developed, and thus require special care in a nursery or intensive care unit while their organ systems continue growth.

Although there is no sure way to avoid premature labor, one of the most important preventive measures to receive proper prenatal care. Statistics show that proper prenatal care greatly reduces the odds of premature birth and related deaths.
The pregnant mother should also maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, keep well hydrated and have at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.

Hereditary Heart Disease
Hereditary heart disease refers to heart disease, which is passed down through genes. It is not preventable. If one has a history of heart disease in the family then one is at risk of hereditary heart disease.
The risk is greater when first-degree relatives, such as your mother, father, brother, sister and so on, have heart disease.

In rare cases, high cholesterol level runs in the family. This is called familial hypercholesterolaemia. It is a genetic problem, which results in exceptionally high level of cholesterol. As a result, there is a high of heart disease.

Hereditary heart disease is caused by various factors. Sometimes, it is merely a pattern of heart disease rather than true hereditary heart disease. These are actually avoidable. For example, the family lifestyle such as poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking. All of these factors contribute to heart disease and can be the start of the chain of hereditary heart disease. In such cases, changing these risk factors will reduce the likelihood of heart disease. This means eating a proper well-balanced diet, getting plenty of exercise, as well as avoids smoking and excessive drinking.
By living a healthy lifestyle, it is possible to reduce the risk of developing heart disease, even if one's genes are predispose to heart disease.

Discover How to Stop Hand Sweating

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

By Renard Muldrake

If you're looking to stop hand sweating, chances are you've dealt with your fair share of clammy hand days, maybe even dripping hand days. It's a condition known as Palmar Hyperhidrosis and it is quite a pain to manage. Not only does it make social situations an issue, but it can even affect your ability to hold objects or perform tasks! It's for this reason that solutions are so desperately sought out to cure this condition which effects over 8 million worldwide.

So if you want to stop hand sweating there are several ways to go about it. First you can try Iontophoresis. This is a process in which you place your hands in shallow pans of water while a small electrical current is passed through it. This causes the minerals in the water to react and form a barrier around your hands, preventing excess sweating from escaping. Now this is effective in over 80% of cases, however treatment lasts 30-45 minutes and you need to undergo this every other day at first, after which you can ease up to once a week. It isn't a cure, but if you have the patience to go through the treatment, it is quite effective.

The other method you can consider to stop hand sweating is Botox treatment. It involves getting injections of Botox into the palms of your hands. How does that help? Well, the Botox interferes with your sympathetic nerves ability to communicate with your sweat glands and tell them to start sweating. This results in a drastic decrease in sweating in 80-90% of cases. Again, this isn't permanent, but it lasts a little longer (6-12 months). You're going to have to shell out about $600-$700 for this treatment though, but if you have the money, this might be the solution for you.

Did you know there is a way how to stop Palmar Hyperhidrosis easily in less than two weeks? To learn how to end your embarrassment, check out: How Can I Stop Sweating?

I Am Unable To Stop Gum Erosion

ป้ายกำกับ:

There are a lot of people suffering from gum problems. But I want you to know my story. You might be shocked knowing as to how much I lost but it would be best to let you know step by step.

My name is Jason, 30 years old, living with my wife, Terri. It was about five years back when I suffered from gum swelling off and on. I didn’t take much notice of that but that was starting to turn bad.

The gum swelling just started to turn into gum bleeding. Things were getting nastier. I checked in with dentists but with no result. I was being reassured by the dentists but then I started to lose the gum tissue.

Now that was a disaster in my life. Those of you who never had it actually don’t know what I am talking about. But those who have been through it know that its hell. The structure of the face starts to change.

It appears like your teeth are starting to pop out and giving a very odd and a long look. I left my job, I lost my insurance, lost my house, my car, but Terri stood by me and motivated me and told me that everything is going to be alright.

She was my only hope because I was so alone inside myself. One day Terri’s friend told her about Nature’s Smile and I was truly ecstatic because nothing was working for me. She told her that no matter what gum problem one is suffering from, this remedy helps.

I took this medicine for a complete whole month and believe me that to my surprise my problem started receding and I really cried because I started to get my life back.

I will strongly suggest to those people who are suffering from any kind of gum problem to take Nature’s Smile and smile the rest of your life.

Keeping Fit Includes Exercises For The Brain

ป้ายกำกับ:

When most people think of exercise, they envision working out to keep their bodies physically fit and healthy. But the brain – so important to living a full life -- also needs an ongoing exercise regimen to stay agile and alert as we grow older.

Scientists used to believe that people were basically stuck with the brain they were born with – and that individuals naturally began to lose cognitive function as they aged. This old thinking allowed people to accept memory loss as inevitable and believe that nothing could be done about it.

However, recent brain research – conducted over the past few years – has shown that the brain constantly renews itself, providing new hope for those with cognitive decline. And, we now know that the brain can learn as much in the second half of life as it did during the first half. However, during the senior years this learning may require more repetition and it may take a little longer. The key is to give the brain a daily workout so that it will constantly generate new cells and neural pathway connections, thereby creating a higher level of brain functionality.

What can you do in your daily life to challenge your brain? Activities that stimulate thought and cause you to retain information as well as problem-solve are excellent activities. It could be as simple as daily hobbies like crossword puzzles, card games, reading, Sudoku number puzzles, or art projects -- such as painting. Even planning a vacation or learning about a foreign culture will require the brain to process new information.

More challenging activities for the brain would be mastering a foreign language or learning to play a musical instrument – both will cause the brain to work hard. The end result will enrich a person’s life and help keep the memory sharp.

Good overall physical health is vital to good brain health. Be sure to get regular medical check-ups and follow your doctor’s advice. Make sure that together you review all of the medications and supplements you are taking to avoid any drug interactions. If you have any memory concerns, don’t delay, see a doctor immediately.

The brain will also benefit greatly by certain lifestyle changes that can make a tremendous impact. Constant stress, for example, can be a serious “brain drain” as can many underlying medical conditions, such as heart disease or a chronic illness. A prolonged lack of quality sleep will have a serious adverse affect on brain function.

Smoking isn’t good for the brain – or for any part of the body. Also avoid drinking to excess and overeating. In fact, a poor diet is as bad for your brain as it is your waistline. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water and focus on a balanced diet.

Your brain and your general outlook on life will benefit from positive social interactions. To avoid depression and isolation, it’s recommended that people have at least five meaningful social interactions each day. Take advantage of any opportunities to meet new people and stay in touch with friends and family. These important social interactions will help keep you alert and involved.

Finally, get moving. A brisk walk, an exercise class or a trip to the gym is essential for the brain as well as the body. Aerobic exercise increases the blood flow to the brain and will activate the repair formation and growth of brain cells. Regular exercise is one of the best activities for helping to maintain and improve brain function.

So, the next time you think of a workout, remember to include the brain. The overall health goal is to keep people physically healthy and mentally alert for as long as possible, so the quality of life is at its optimum.

The Secret to Living with Allergies

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

By:Colleen Finnegan

Part 1: Understanding the Allergy Basics

Whether you suffer from seasonal allergies or indoor allergies to dust mites, molds and pet dander, you may be regularly faced with allergy symptoms such as congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing or more. You may experience allergy symptoms while outside as a result of seasonal allergies. Or, your allergic reactions can come about due to exposure to indoor allergens while cleaning, coming into contact with pets or even while sleeping! In order to understand the secret to living with allergies, you must educate yourself about allergic triggers, environmental controls and what causes your allergy symptoms. As Part 1 of the Allergy Control Products series on The Secrets to Living with Allergies, learn some time-tested allergen avoidance steps toward living a healthier life that is free of allergy symptoms.

Step 1: Diagnose the Allergy Triggers that Cause Your Allergy Symptoms

Any allergy sufferer knows the misery that can be caused by allergy symptoms such as congestion, runny nose, headache, watery eyes, sneezing, itching, rash and even severe symptoms such as asthmatic reactions. What some allergy sufferers don’t fully know is what may be triggering their allergies, and the key to managing these symptoms is diagnosing precisely what causes allergic reactions. It may be surprising that many allergy sufferers who have mild allergy symptoms may not be able to pinpoint what they are allergic to. Without consulting with a physician to understand the nature of their allergies, these allergy sufferers are unable to proactively control their allergies.

In some cases, identifying allergy triggers is easy. For instance, if you sneeze and have trouble breathing when around cats, it’s likely that you have a pet allergy. Certain food allergies, contact with allergen sources or exposure to obvious allergy sources (such as dusty or moldy rooms) may also be easy to identify. However, many people are unaware that they can come into daily contact with large allergen sources throughout the home that cause or worsen their allergy symptoms. Understanding your sensitivity and resulting allergy reactions to these indoor allergens can have a profound impact on alleviating your allergy symptoms.

For the best understanding of your specific allergies, see your physician or allergist for allergy testing. A skin test may be performed in order to determine whether you many be allergic to dust mites, pollens, pet dander, fungi or other sources. Allergy medications or allergen injections may be recommended. Physicians can help you outline a plan for addressing your exposure to allergy triggers in order to alleviate allergy symptoms.

Step 2: Identify the Dust Mite as One of the Biggest Culprits in Causing Indoor Allergies

The top 3 indoor allergens are dust mite allergens, molds and pet dander. All three can be found in most homes and millions of dust mites can be found in even the cleanest of homes. One easy way to find allergy relief is to reduce your allergen exposure within your home. Many people who have allergies are allergic to dust mites and because they cannot be seen by the naked eye, you could be totally unaware of how much you come in contact with dust mite allergens.

Dust mites are relatives of the spider, and they thrive in the dark, warm and humid environment found in pillows, mattresses, bedding, carpets and upholstered furniture. Dust mites excrete fecal particles and it is these particles, as well as their dead bodies, that cause your allergic symptoms. In fact, “dust” is made up of dust mite allergens and other allergen particles. Inhaling these particles triggers your allergies.

Around the home, you come in regular contact with indoor allergens, but the greatest allergen exposure is to dust mite allergens. A large dust mite allergen source is your bed. If you wake up feeling congested, sneezing, with swollen eyes or a runny nose, or with other allergy symptoms, inhaling dust mite allergens while you sleep is to blame. You spend up to 8 hours a day in bed, inhaling these allergens and unwittingly aggravating your allergies. The second largest source of dust mite allergens is found in carpeting. Since many homes have carpeting, the carpet is another large area for causing allergy symptoms.

Step 3: For Indoor Allergy Relief, Control Your Environment to Eliminate Allergy Triggers

The good news is that simple steps around the home could alleviate allergy symptoms and possibly reduce your need for allergy medications and treatments. The first step is to address the bedroom due to the large amount of time spent there each day. Cover your pillow, mattress and other bedding in allergy bed encasings to create a barrier between you and the dust mite allergens in the bed. Wash your linens frequently in hot water to remove allergens. Treat your carpet with special allergy-removing carpet products, or remove carpets in favor of hardwood floors or tile. Vacuum weekly with a quality HEPA vacuum, which will contain allergens while you clean, and wear a face mask while cleaning. Keep your home’s humidity level below 50% as low humidity discourages dust mite and mold growth.

What is Osgood-Schlatters Disease? & How Do You Treat It? Some Answers Here

ป้ายกำกับ:

What really is Osgood-Schlatters Diease? Is it really a Disease?

The Osgood-Schlatter Disease is claimed by some to not actually be a disease, but is rather a collection of symptoms that involves the tibial tubercle epiphysis. (An epiphysis is essentially a bone growth center). Discovered in 1903 by Dr. Robert Bayley Osgood and Dr. Carl Schlatter, Osgood-Schlatters Disease is often found among young athletes and children, mainly affecting boys and girls between 10-16 years of age. Pain, swelling, and inflammation are symptoms that typically characterize Osgood-Schlatters Disease. Often times Osgood-Schlatters disease will subside when the individual stops growing, and the tendon becomes stronger. The sypmtoms of Osgood-Schlatters will be more apparent during and after exercise.

What is the cause of Osgood-Schlatters disease?

Osgood-Schlatters disease occurs when the patellar tendon, (which attaches the quadriceps muscle at the front of the thigh and inserts on the tibial tuberosity) is overused. The tibial tubercle is a small bump on the tibia (your shin bone) just below your knee. Inflammation can occur when the patellar tendon tugs on the tibial tuberosity. Osgood-Schlatters disease is also known as a tibial tubercle apophyseal traction injury. When children and young athletes put a greater strain on their patellar tendon, they do so usually with sporting activities such as running and jumping.

Tests & Diagnosis

Upon visiting with the physician, your child will have a physical examination of their knee. The physician will be looking for symptoms such as redness, pain, tenderness, or swelling in and around the knee joint. This individual will wish to check the ROM (range of motion) in your child's knee. Further tests, such as x-rays may be used to look at the bones that comprise the knee joint and leg, in an effort to more closely examine the point where the patellar tendon inserts on the tibia tuberosity.

What can the athlete do if they have Osgood-Schlatters disease?

Seek the advice your physician. Prior to receiving any treatment, it is very important for an individual to make sure that Osgood Schlatters Disease is causing the pain. Your physician can confirm or disconfirm this diagnosis. Treatment is usually conservative; rest and simple pain reduction measures of ice packs can be of great assistance. The use of a low profile neoprene or drytex knee brace (with or without a hinge) can also be of help. Two good examples would the DonJoy Comfort Knee Brace or the DonJoy drytex hinged knee brace. Typically, these knee braces can help keep the knee warm while also placing subtle pressure on the swollen area. The light pressure seems to relieve pain by compressing the separating physis. A very expensive / deluxe knee brace is probably not indicated for Osgood Schlatters.

If you have irritating pain or instability in your knee, and want to do something about it, you should check Dr. Brace Company out online. Do You have Symptoms of Fatigue, Shortness of Breath, or a Rapid Heart Beat?

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

Let me know if this sounds like you? You experience frequent bouts of quick onset of sweating, a sudden rapid heart rate, or all of a sudden a shortness of breath. You may think that you are having a heart attack, though the real cause may be something you didn't expect.

If this sounds like you do you skip breakfast often? Thus once you skip breakfast your day goes by with off on bouts of fatigue and sluggishness that you fix with either trips to Starbucks or the vending machine. Quickly after eating the high sugar of gourmet coffees or snacks in vending machines you feel better though it doesn't last and a few hours later you are crashing again.

What is happening is a lack of small meals during the day is throwing your hormones out of balance. Too much insulin in your blood stream from constant bouts of low and then high blood sugar is causing your symptoms mentioned earlier. This process starts many Americans on the path to diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and high blood pressure. Who would have though it was all causes when you skipped breakfast?

Most Americans from not poor diet choices, but poor diet habits are living everyday with their hormones out of balance. What I mean by poor diet habits instead of poor diet choices is that most people may think they eat too much fast food or not enough vegetables, though it is the simple act not eating small meals throughout the day that causes the hormonal imbalances.

Your endocrine system (hormones) and your nervous system control your body's rhythm which allows you to prevent disease and live healthy. Most pharmaceutical drugs mast the symptoms people feel like depression or fatigue though the only way to make a cure is to get your hormones back into balance from your diet.

The key understanding how your hormone insulin works and what you can to get in back into balance.

1. Insulin is the key hormone that controls how much fat you store.

2. High insulin levels triggers your brain to crave high sugar foods.

3. Insulin puts stress on the brain which leads to type 3 diabetes or Alzheimer's.

4. Your body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin and that process is the cause of over half the cases of high blood pressure.

5. Insulin enhances the chance of cancer cells forming.

6. High levels of insulin have been linked to depression, panic attacks, anxiety, ADHD, and insomnia.

7. Insulin makes your blood clot faster which increases risk of heart attacks and strokes.

8. Insulin can lead to lower testosterone which causes infertility, acne, hair loss for both men and women, and sexual performance issues.

Top 10 Tips to Re balance Your Insulin

1. Eat a higher amount of whole foods that have not been processed like fruits, vegetables, beans, fish, chicken, and eggs.

2. Remove trans fats from your diet. There is no health benefit to any trans fats in your diet.

3. Eat more organic foods which don't use pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones.

4. Avoid high sugar foods.

5. Eat breakfast. If you are not in the habit; start with something. Just drinking coffee doesn't count for eating breakfast.

6. Eat 5 small meals during the day or every 2-3 hours.

7. Don't eat a large meal than go to bed. This is also solved by eating 5 small meals as you loose the ability to overeat.

8. Get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep will limit the affects of any amount of health eating that you will do. You are not able to catch up on the weekends.

9. Get at least 3 bouts of exercise in during the week. Cardiovascular exercise has been shown to support stabilizing your blood sugar.

10. Ten a few minutes to relax every day. High stress releases cortisol into your blood stream which amplifies the effects of insulin.

When you embark on balancing your hormones remember it is a lifestyle not a 90 day plan. The goal is that every action you take is an action that you can add to your life that you can continue. Any solution that is short term typically only causes more problems or at least different problems.

The Ingredients Of An Anti Aging Skin Care Solution That Works

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

By: Ray Rubio

Today, we have an anti aging skin care solution. It’s doubtful that we will ever find a fountain of youth. The planet could not sustain a race of non-aging human beings. But, our faces can look younger and with very little effort.

An anti aging skin care solution should contain mild all natural ingredients derived from plants, fruits or maybe wool. A form of the protein Keratin, found throughout the human body and important in creating new skin-cells, has been found in the wool of New Zealand sheep.

A company called Keratec has patented the extraction and manufacturing processes, which allow the protein to be readily available for use by the human body. Other forms of keratin are derived from dead animal parts that are rendered through a process known as hydrolyzation. Not that you would want to put that on your face, but if you did, it would be largely ineffective, because it would not be absorbed through the pores.

An effective anti aging skin care solution will penetrate through many of the skin’s layers, repairing damage and eliminating free radicals. We know that 90% of all wrinkles, lines and other outward signs of getting older are caused by exposure to the sun.

UV-A rays depletes the level of COQ10 in skin cells. You may recognize COQ10 as a recommended dietary supplement. It is a powerful antioxidant present in every cell of the human body.

Many companies have taken to adding it to their creams and lotions. The problem is that in most cases, it cannot penetrate the outer layers and get to the places where the real damage occurs.

The makers of a new anti aging skin care solution have come up with a process called nano-emulsion. Simply put, they break up the antioxidant into microscopic particles that can penetrate deeply, through as many as seven of the skin’s layers. The new ingredient is called nano-lipobelle H-EQ10 and it is available in some of the finer products on the market.

Another anti aging skin care solution, new to the Western world, is derived from a variety of Japanese sea kelp called Wakame. In Japan, it is cultivated and eaten fresh or dried. Historically, it was believed to have health giving properties, including its ability to keep faces young and beautiful.

A secret for many years, it is now available to the world. After scientific evaluation, it was learned that the beliefs concerning Wakame were in fact true. It is "health-giving" because it contains high levels of a number of vitamins and minerals including iron, potassium and B-complex. The calcium content is 15 times higher than that of milk.

It keeps faces "young and beautiful" because it inhibits the activity of an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. The acid is like glue that holds collagen and elastin fibers together. By preventing the break down of hyaluronic acid, Wakame increases elasticity and smoothness. It also heals irritation and moisturizes.

Because of its vitamin content, Wakame is another anti aging skin care solution that acts as an antioxidant and prevents the damage that free radicals do the skin’s cellular structure. Start using these nutritional supplements for your face and before you know it, you will look and maybe "feel" young, again.

Handling the Ugly Drunk

ป้ายกำกับ:

By:Ian Asotte Esober.com

Some alcoholics become withdrawn, silent, pass out and are virtually harmless when they drink too much.

Others turn into silly jerks, the "life of the party", and often end up embarrassing themselves and others.

Still others, who arrive on the scene as Dr. Jekyll, and start out conversing politely and responsibly sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, turn into argumentative, insulting personalities from consuming too much alcohol. The Mr. Hyde-like drunk emerges without warning.

From my own experience and from what others have told me about the way I acted, I would proceed through all of the stages described above. First, alcohol made me giddy, sometimes even euphoric.

In the next stage I would become so impressed with my intellectual capabilities, I'd argue vigorously on any and all topics with anyone foolish enough to listen. I often took the opposite side of any proposition just do I could here myself talk.

Eventually, I would get so mind-fogged that I would recede into my own world as a prelude to passing out.

But how do you handle the ugly drunk at his/her peek?

First of all, if you're not an alcoholic yourself, don't assume you can reason with a mad drunk. They are exactly that, out of their mind. When you talk with a person in the throes of inebriation, you're talking to the bottle, not the real person behind it. Ever tried to hold an intelligent conversation with a bottle of Jack Daniels or Jim Beam? You'll find Jack and Jim rather irresponsive and the conversation one-sided.

If a low-voiced warning to the abusive alcoholic, telling them they are out-living your hospitality does not produce a modification of behavior, then you may have only one recourse: throw the bum out! If they become abusive, threatening and refuse to leave, enlist the help of the local gendarmerie. This service is usually provided free as it's considered part of your citizen's rights.

Oh you say, this person has been a friend or family member for many years, I really don't want to do that, I want to help. That may be true but what you're seeing is a progressive disease in progress. And rest assured that as long as the alcoholic is practicing active alcoholism, they are extremely unlikely to get better or even listen to you. The odds are they will continue to get worse as time goes on.

You may be doing the alcoholic a favor by bringing their unacceptable behavior to the front. Sometimes a socially deviant incident, properly remonstrated, can make just enough impression to awaken the need for help in the mind of the alcoholic. But don't bet on it, they don't call this the disease of denial for nothing. Regardless of whether the alcoholic gets the message or not, you have every right, and duty, to demand this kind of behavior cease in your home or at gatherings where you are the host.

It took an incident at my neighbor's house one night for me to get the right idea. I drank entirely too much wine and brandy and proceeded to fall off their front stoop, bounce off the sidewalk and roll into the street in a blackout. I remembered nothing of that incident the morning after nor do I remember anything now. The recounting of the episode, along with my inability to remember it, was just scary enough for me to ask my doctor about alcoholism. He suggested AA. That was almost 18 years ago and I haven't had a drink since (thank You, big guy).

Recently, a lady posted a comment on our Esober Blog. Here's the lady's comment and my response:

Comment from a lady in the UK:

"I just lost a friend over alcohol. While having a dinner party at my home, my friend became quite over intoxicated and began insulting people at the party, including my own mother. Did I do the right thing by ending this friendship? I am wondering if I should have stayed in the friendship to help him with the drinking problem."

Response from Ian Asotte:

"Having been an ugly drunk at times, I know how embarrassed and angry you must have been. The bottom line is you are never obligated to put up with bad behavior. Ending the friendship may have the benefit of waking up your friend. On the other hand, someone in the throes of alcoholism often can't see the problem. Embrace change in your friend if it happens, but don't expect it. Sometimes it takes years for a person to see the problem - sometimes it never happens, so don't expect it. You can't make someone drink if they don't want to and you can't make them sober if they don't want it. You can, and should choose, however, not to associate with an abusive person. You did the right thing."

No one need put up with an ugly drunk and no-one should feel guilty about terminating an abusive relationship.

Heart Disease and Associated Problems

ป้ายกำกับ:

To be told you have “heart disease” can strike fear into anyone hearing it for the first time, however it’s not as bad as it sounds.

In this article I am going to explain some of the terms, causes and remedies associated with heart disease.

Heart disease is a general term used to describe several different conditions, all of which are potentially fatal, but are also treatable and/or preventable. Heart disease is primarily a disease of lifestyle, and is largely preventable through risk factor awareness and modification.

However it is a serious condition and if ignored it is a major cause for heart attacks (myocardial infarction), congestive heart failure, angina pectoris, stroke, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), and ischemia (reduced blood flow). The most common form of heart disease is coronary heart disease, also known as coronary artery disease

Coronary

Coronary artery disease is the most common form of heart disease, it is caused by a narrowing or clogging of the coronary arteries that supply the heart with oxygen and nutrients.

Coronary artery disease and the resulting reduced blood flow to the heart muscle can lead to other heart problems, such as chest pain (angina) and heart attacks (myocardial infarction).

The risk of coronary heart disease can be reduced by taking steps to prevent and control those adverse factors that put people at greater risk for heart disease and heart attacks.

Cholesterol

If you have too much cholesterol in your bloodstream, the excess is deposited in arteries, including the coronary arteries, where it contributes to the narrowing and blockages that cause the signs and symptoms of heart disease.

High levels of the wrong type of cholesterol (LDL) can be life threatening especially because this type of cholesterol has the capability to choke the arteries and thus cause a heart attack.

What happens is that the levels of the lipoprotein, which is made in the liver and in cells lining blood vessels, rise with things that make heart disease more likely, like smoking, obesity, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Conversely the levels fall when patients stop smoking, lose weight and get their cholesterol and diabetes under control.

Cholesterol levels should be less than 5.5. If your cholesterol level is 6.5 mmol/L or greater your risk of heart disease is about 4 times greater than that of a person with a cholesterol level of 4 mmol/L.

The best defense against high cholesterol is simply controlling the risk factors that could lead to coronary artery disease, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, stress, excessive alcohol consumption, physical inactivity and being overweight.

Regular aerobic activities have a good effect on blood vessels and cholesterol.

Dietary aids to lowering cholesterol

• reduce cheese intake and/or substitute low fat varieties
• choose reduced fat milks
• substitute polyunsaturated margarine for butter
• choose lean cuts of meat and remove all visible fat
• eat skinless chicken, fish or beans
• beware of pies, pasties, fish and chips and commercial cakes (hidden fat)
• make cakes at home with polyunsaturated fat, cook chips with polyunsaturated or mono unsaturated oil
• lose weight if overweight.

High blood pressure also causes many other types of cardiovascular disease, such as stroke and heart failure.

Arteries

Coronary artery diseases are diseases of the arteries that supply the heart muscle with blood. If you suffer from CAD it generally means that blood flow through the coronary arteries has become obstructed, reducing blood flow to the heart muscle.

Like any muscle, the heart needs a constant supply of oxygen and nutrients, which are carried to it by the blood in the coronary arteries. When the coronary arteries become narrowed or clogged by cholesterol and fat deposits (atherosclerosis), the heart cannot get enough and the result is coronary heart disease (CHD).

Stroke

Other cardiovascular diseases include stroke, high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), and rheumatic heart disease. Smoking and uncontrolled high blood pressure are important risk factors for stroke.

Although stroke is highly preventable, certain risk factors such as; family history, age, sex and race can't be controlled.

People with diabetes are also two to four times more likely to die of heart disease and experience stroke.

Prevention

Although heart disease is a serious condition that requires constant monitoring, there are many things you can do to reduce your risk for cardiovascular problems and live a full, active life, even if you should suffer a heart attack.

Study results indicate that heart disease is almost twice as likely to develop in inactive people as in those who exercise regularly.

However studies have also shown that after five years of giving up smoking, the risk of developing heart disease is the same as for someone who never smoked.

As well, if you exercise on a regular basis, the chance of your developing heart disease is about half that of people who do no exercise at all.
