Sarcoidosis Symptoms And Causes

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

By: Naomi West

The immune system is referred to as the defence force of our body. It does anything it can to destroy anything hurtful that could be paining us. The immune system will protect the other organs of the body by sending out unique cells when it believes that they are under assault from a damaging substance.

When these cells arrive at the organ they will instantaneously loose chemicals that will bring some other cells to assist with destroying the disease that is making the damage. All of this healing is causing the infected area to grow inflamed. Only once that disease has been taken care of the cells and the inflammation will vanish instantly.

Individuals who have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis will find out that the inflammation has not gone away. During this medical condition the cells contained in the immune system will mold together and create granulomas that will hide within in distinct essential organs.

Sarcoidosis can damage any region of a person’s body - but it will ordinarily start out in the skin, lungs, and lymph nodes. It may also bear upon the liver and the eyes. In the extreme cases it will produce troubles with the heart and brain.

When a larger group of granulomas collect in a particular organ it will touch the way that the organ works and create signs and symptoms. It is hard to list the symptoms because they vary depending on the organ being attacked. It is possible for several people with this medical condition to not go through any symptoms while others may have moderate to severe symptoms.

The most standard symptom of sarcoidosis is listed as Lofgren’s syndrome. This syndrome will induce arthritis, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and erytheme nodosum. Erytheme nodosum is a skin rash that will appear on the ankles and shins.

Treatment for sarcoidosis will depend on the organs that are being attacked. Your physician will run a number of examinations to find what is being affected and might prescribe certain treatments and medicinal drugs to help handle the disease. Several people with sarcoidosis do not require any treatment. These people will commonly have no symptoms or very moderate cases.

Sarcoidosis is a medical condition in which the immune system is attacking parts of the body without cause or reason. For more information on this and other medical conditions visit Doctone.

Traumatic and Nontraumatic Brain Injuries

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

Many patients that we see have seemingly bizarre symptoms that they have been living with for long periods of time, resultant to changes in the way their brain is functioning. These neurologic findings are sometimes attributable to post-concussive syndromes, following an accident or other head injury, and sometimes not and are caused by other environmental factors.

The symptoms that occur often include imbalance or dizziness, tremor, headache, wincing of one or both eyes, tearing, fear of light, (photophobia), intolerance to sounds, (hyperacusis), reduced or deteriorating handwriting, (micrographia/dysgraphia), cognitive loss, personality/behavioral change, and on and on.

If these neurologic symptoms are as a result of a structural abnormality, they are usually caught long before the patient is referred to my office. However, when there is no underlying demonstrable change, i.e. on MRI, this points to a neurophysiologic problem.

Neurophysiologic problems are such that they cannot be seen on imaging studies. It would be like taking a picture of your car to try and figure out why the motor won't start. These types of problems can only be observed on clinical examination of a patient and by utilizing other non-imaging type examinations such as the neurodiagnostic equipment found in my office.

The good news is that if no structural lesions are involved, there is often a good chance of complete recovery once the diagnostic dilemma is uncovered and appropriate functional neurologic rehabilitation is utilized.

The patients that we see with these types of problems refer to my office misdiagnosed, or undiagnosed. Often they are on drugs that they have no idea why they are taking, and which are not only not helpful, but oftentimes harmful. (Whenever you are prescribed a drug, you should ask why). They have seen several doctors and have had batteries of tests. We particularly enjoy working with these types of patients, as when they get better the joy is heartfelt by all.

Pediatric Hemorrhoids

ป้ายกำกับ: , ,

By: Donald Urquhart

Yes, children can get hemorrhoids too.

Even infants can suffer from them for a variety of reasons.

However, children's bodies work quite differently from adults in some fundamental ways, so, of course the treatments change as well.

Child metabolism speeds along at a higher rate, children's systems absorb medication differently, and children's organs and immune systems are still in development.

For all of these reasons, it is quite important to work with a competent pediatrician on any child health issues, including hemorroids / piles / hemroids.

Pediatricians are a form of specialist unto themselves who specifically study how juvenile bodies work. Your child's pediatrician is your most important ally for any child health problem. He or she will be able to tell you whether a particular symptom is normal for children, the most important signs and symptoms to watch for, and what health regimen is optimal for your child's growing body.

First, check for the cause of the hemorrhoid.

Even infants can get hemorrhoids from chronic constipation or diarrhea.

If your child has problems having a bowel movement or reacts fearfully by trying to avoid toileting or distressed crying, constipation may be an issue.

If this turns out to be the cause, then you may want to work with your pediatrician to develop a suitable diet for the child.

Infants frequently get constipated due to iron-fortified formula, while older children can have a problem due either to poor eating habits or distraction.

Children are particularly prone to ignoring the need to perform a bowel movement due to distraction, which can lead to constipation in and of itself.

Supervision of the child's bowel movements and reminders to go may be in order to eliminate this problem.

If diarrhea is the problem instead, then you probably already know about it.

Follow the recommended treatment for either condition and the hemorrhoids will resolve as well.

However, child hemorrhoids may rarely be indicative of a deeper health problem, such as inflammatory bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease.

This is one of the reasons why working with a pediatrician is important.

Hemorrhoids are a fairly rare problem for children and should always be treated with care if they appear.

Never use any adult medication on a child without a pediatrician's recommendation.

If the pediatrician does recommend a laxative or stool softener in order to help with constipation, precisely follow his or her instructions.

In addition, if constipation is the problem, expect your child to be anxious and fearful of bowel movements for a while, until the painful associations get replaced with more pleasant ones.

As long as no serious underlying health problem exists, then with the right diet, careful supervision, and love, the hemorrhoids should shortly resolve on their own.

Bacterial Vaginosis - Causes, Symptoms, And Treatments

ป้ายกำกับ:

What is bacterial vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most general cause of vaginal infection known as vaginitis. Normally it is not considered to be a 'sexually transmitted infection'. It is the imbalance of naturally happening bacterial flora that causes bacterial vaginosis.

What are the symptoms and signs?

The most common sign is an unusual vaginal discharge especially after having sex which has an unpleasant fishy smell. Some women don't experience any symptoms, while many other experience intense swelling, itching and irritation (often misdiagnosed by patient or even health practitioner as yeast infection), also stomach pains, which feels like severe cramps. By contrast, a normal discharge should be odourless and vary in amount and consistency with the menstrual cycle.

The causes?

Normally, a healthy vagina should contain many microorganisms; Lactobacillus crispate and Lactobacillus jensenii are the common ones. The microorganisms involved in bacterial vaginosis are very diverse. Reduction of lactobacillus and any other changes in normal bacterial flora, due to use of antibiotics or pH imbalance or other reasons, lets the more resistant bacteria to multiply and gain foothold.

There are a variety of causes for bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis is more common in sexually active women aging 15 to 44 especially after changing in to new partner.

Although bacterial vaginosis might be related to sexual activity, there is no strong evidence of sexual transmission. But virgins can get infected with bacterial vaginosis.

Women with sexually transmitted infections and pregnant women are more at risk. Sometimes Bacterial vaginosis affects women after menopause. A study has shown subclinical anemia the iron shortage is a strong cause of bacterial vaginosis in pregnant women. Also it's proven there is a link between bacterial vaginosis and psychosocial stress.

There is a theory mentioning that sexual exchange of vaginal secretions in sex between women is a possible mechanism for acquisition.

In young girls, strep or bacteria from the anus due to none hygiene wiping after bowel movement may cause bacterial vaginosis.

What are the treatments?

Since the disease is caused by bacteria therefore treatment for bacterial vaginosis is using antibiotics. Not many antibiotics are used routinely. Metronidazole (Flagyl) is a very affective antibiotic which is taken either by oral (pill) or by vaginal metronidazole gel (Metrogel). The vaginal clindamycin cream (Cleocin) is also available.

The oral metronidazole is believed to be the best and most effective treatment but may cause minor and unpleasant side effects. Typically the gel does not cause side effect, but yeast vaginitis can happen as a side effect of the medication.

If you are looking for an antibiotic with fewer side effects then tinidazole is the one, an antibiotic that appears to have lesser side effects compared with metronidazole and is effective in bacterial vaginosis treatment.

There is the possibility of bacterial vaginosis Recurrence even after a successful treatment. Recurrence happens in more than half of the treated patients within 12 months. The reason is unclear. Due to appearance of recurrent symptoms, second course of antibiotic treatment is recommended.
