People are becoming more aware of a possible swine flu pandemic. The swine flu (H1N1 virus) is now wide spread throughout most of the country. The swine flu can be deceiving because it can have very similar symptoms to that of the regular flu. But the question we have to ask is: will swine flu mutate into something worse? There is so much talk all over the internet of people saying the swine flu can mutate into a strand far worse than what we are seeing right now. I can understand the paranoia considering there was a severe pandemic back in 1918 that started out as a nearly harmless flu only to come back months later as a severe killer that took 100 million lives.

The swine flu is currently impacting the following groups the most severely: pregnant women, children, young adults, people with severe health conditions such as asthma, heart disease, neurological problems, diabetes and immunity suppression. The swine flu does not seem to be affecting older people as much. The reason could be that they have developed an immunity to the virus from years back. Whereas the regular seasonal flu can be very harmful to an elderly person.
