From Heart Issues to Heart Attacks

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

by: Rcon Franchesca Pascua

Nothing beats the pain of having your heart broken by someone you truly, madly, deeply in love with. It is true that ending the relationship is probably the nastiest and the most hurtful scenario in a romantic relationship. Nobody wants their hearts to be broken, and no one can really tell what it feels like unless they are or have been in that situation already.

Yes, going through a bad relationship is tough, and lucky and brave are those who survive it. Unlucky, however, for those who suffer from heart attacks because of a broken heart.

According to a recent study in Europe, it has been observed among thousands of British civilians that it is possible for an individual to have a series of heart attacks due to a painful and traumatic breakup experience. Experts who conducted the study claimed that stress and anxiety brought by a painful and traumatic end of a relationship can significantly increase a person’s risk in having or developing heart diseases.

Results of the study showed that an individual’s heart condition is not just determined by means of physical condition. It can also be influenced by the emotional stability or condition of a person. Therefore, an individual who has a happy and fulfilling relationship is less likely to develop coronary heart disease compared to the ones who are unlucky in love.

To spare your already bruised heart from added pain and trauma, the following are some ways on how to avoid developing heart diseases due to emotional heart issues:

1. Talk to someone about your feelings.

When a relationship ends, the women are usually the most emotional ones. They tend to relay the whole breakup episode to their girlfriends or relatives. The men, however, are less vocal about their emotions. With this, doctors often recommend male patients to find someone whom they can share their feelings with. Support from people who can understand what you’re going through can surely ease your emotions and heart pains.

2. Slowly acknowledge the fact that the relationship is over.

It is normal to feel hurt and betrayed once a relationship ends. However, the world will not stop and grieve at your lose. Move on. Accept the fact that the relationship is over and get on living your life. Although the process of moving on is hard, acceptance helps in keeping the mind and emotions calm after a hard and painful experience.

3. Go see a doctor when the pain progresses from emotional to physical instability.

Based on the recent study mentioned above, a person who is extremely heartbroken can die because of heart attack. So, if you feel that the emotional pain and stress are too much for you to bear any longer that it comes to the point when your health also suffers, go see your doctor to confirm your condition.

Although having an emotional breakdown is not just the only factor for developing heart diseases, it is better to let your doctor know and check your condition once heartaches turn to “literal heart pains”.

Author: Darrell Miller

D-Ribose is a simple five-carbon sugar that has been shown to delay the progression of congestive heart failure in many people who have had a heart attack at some point in the past. Congestive heart failure is a condition that can occur as a result of any structural or functional cardiac disorder which impairs the ability of the heart to fill with and pump a sufficient amount of blood throughout the body. Since not all patients experience volume overload at the initial evaluation, this disease is most commonly referred to as heart failure, rather than congestive heart failure. This disease is often under-diagnosed because of a universally agreed upon definition does not exist and there are difficulties with diagnosis, especially in those with a mild condition. Even with the best care and therapy, heart failure has an associated mortality rate of ten percent and is the leading cause of hospitalization in people above the age of sixty-five.

Many studies have been done and presented at the Second Annual Academic Surgical Congress, which is sponsored by the Association for Academic Surgery and Society of University Surgeons. Heart attacks often lead to the progressive onset of congestive heart failure. After a heart attack, the portion of the heart that hasn't been damaged must work harder to compensate for the functional loss of the tissue that is damaged. The heart will eventually begin to fail, causing the chambers of the heart to enlarge and waken, which in turn causes the heart to lose its ability to pump blood effectively.

A study, which was conducted by the University of Minnesota, led by Dr. John Foker and his team, determined that administering D-Ribose will significantly improve heart function after a heart attack. The study also showed that the progression of heart failure after a heart attack begins with the fall of energy levels. D-Ribose is very unique, it serves as a foundation for many important compounds such as DNA, RNA, and ATP (the energy of cells). ATP is very important to health and for maintaining normal energy-dependent body functions. Hearts that are stressed, muscles, and other tissue lack the metabolic machinery that is needed to quickly make D-Ribose and overcome progressive energy depletion. D-Ribose has been shown to significantly increase energy formation in those tissues that are stressed. The energy level of the heart tissue that is not damaged by the heart attack is in control of the beginning events of heart failure. When ATP starts to decrease, function will worsen, which sets the progression of chronic cardiac failure in motion. Supplementing with D-Ribose is known to increase energy in stressed hearts, which slows the progression of heart failure and in some cases even prevents it altogether. Although the study is in its early stages of investigation, Dr. Foker is positive about the results. By treating hearts with D-Ribose, ATP concentration of the heart can be improved and loss of energy can be prevented, which is known to be the major contributor to this disease's progression.

How to Reverse and Prevent Heart Disease – The Easy Way

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

Mohd. Sufendi

When you read or hear stories of someone having a heart attack, what are your thoughts?

Do you feel for the sufferer? Do you learn from it? Or do you care less? And think that it could not happen to you?

If this is your response, then do consider that heart attack patients once though the same way too.

Everyone has the risk of experiencing cardiovascular diseases and heart ailments.

Cardiovascular diseases is the common name that referred to several conditions involving the heart and the blood channel.

Any ailment that causes the heart or the blood channel to fail to function well is called cardiovascular diseases.

The coronary heart disease happens when the channel that provide blood to the heart and the brain (the artery) is choked or damaged.

If the blood channel gets choked, the blood circulation to the heart and the brain reduces or completely stop.

This might cause various cardiovascular problems like heart attack, brain damage, chest pain and heart failure. The heart is a small organ, only weighing 0.25 kilogram and beats 72 times a minute.

Try clenching both fists and place in the middle of the chest. This is the size of your heart compared to the size of the body. If we are to lay them out, the blood channel will be 27,000 kilometers long. Do you think that the small heart is able to pump 5.6 liters of blood, three times a minute for that distance?

If you are thin, this task could be possibly carried out easily but for those who are obese, the heart is always forced to bear the difficult burden and work hard to so that blood can be pumped to every area of the body that requires blood.

Now count your heartbeat per minute. If your heartbeat far exceeds the normal count of 72 beats a minute at rest, it's a sign that you must do something to confirm that your heart is functioning well.

It seems everyone knows, that heart disease is one of the deadly diseases in most countries. Almost 8 percent hospital fatalities are caused cardiovascular diseases.

One might be more inclined to suffer from cardiovascular disease compared to another. The risk factor of heart disease can be divided into two; factors that cannot be reversed and factors that can be prevented.

The factor that cannot be reversed is sex and age. Male, aged above 45 years or female aged above 55 years with a family history of heart diseases. For example, if heart attack occurs at a young age, whether it happens to the father or brother below 55 years old and the mother or sister below 65 years old.

Most cases of heart attack stems from an unhealthy lifestyle which include smoking, lack of physical activities (exercise), diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure though it can be prevented.

Coronary heart disease usually takes a long time to form and it involves the following factors such as:-

- High blood pressure

- High cholesterol

- Improper diet

- Lack of exercise

- Obesity

- Smoking

- Diabetes

The increase in heart disease fatalities has prompted many health organisations to adopt advice on how to reverse and prevent heart disease.

Most people do not think that they are at risk of heart diseases. Even if they know the facts, most choose not to seek advice or medical treatment. Thus the need to know how to reverse and prevent heart disease becomes more apparent.

Everyday, many people have their lifestyles 'paralyzed' by heart diseases even if it can be prevented. The easiest way on how to reverse and prevent heart disease is by reducing weight by way of a healthy diet and consistent exercise.

These two methods not only reduce weight but at the same time increase one's energy level and have a healthier heart. This message needs to be spread throughout.

It's never too late to learn how to reverse and prevent heart disease. Age does not matter but do seek a doctor's advice before starting on an exercise regime if you are:-

- Male above 35 years of age

- Female above 40 years of age

- If you experience a problem of excessive weight; more than 7kg above normal

- If you have doubts over your health condition

- Have a history of medication or undergoing treatment and medication

- Have not exercised or only exercise occasionally

With that, it has been said that remedies from nature are much safer and more effective than prescription drugs and needless surgery as well.

Some Statistics On Critical Illness Cover

ป้ายกำกับ: , ,

By: Glen Parkin

Statistics reveal that someone somewhere in the UK falls prey to a critical illness every 2 minutes. That critical illness is most probably the heart attack. As surveys are carried out, results appear, showing that 93 percent of these people are likely to have a critical illness cover. As a matter of fact, a serious amount of people continue to fall critically ill every year without getting any financial help to match the costs of possible treatments and intensive care.

According to ERC Frankona, 1 of every 3 men may suffer from a critical illness such as heart attack, stroke or cancer before reaching the age of 65. The same thing may happen to 1 of every 5 women. Sadly many women in England and Wales suffer from one of these critical illnesses: breast cancer. 36,000 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in the year 2000 among women, that is approximately 114 of every 100,000 women suffered from this critical illness. Consequently around 11,000 women died due to breast cancer in the year 2002 in England and Wales. Thus, these figures confirm that breast cancer may be the most lethal critical illness among women.

Furthermore, The Office for National Statistics shows that 80 percent of women between the ages of 50-55 may have developed a breast cancer. The process of discovery of this disease demonstrates such an elevated result as many women may have been tested for the first time. Also, in the years 1940s and1950s the death rates among women for a critical illness such as cancer decreased. It then rose back in 1980 and lowered again in the year 1990. On the other hand, the death pattern among men was the contrary. It rose to the 1970s and then continuously lowered from the 1990s.

Another well known critical illness in England and Wales is the circulatory disease accompanied by heart disease and stroke. This critical illness caused death rates among men to rise more than that of women. The Office of National Statistics states that of every 100,000 men 312 died due to circulatory malfunctions as compared to 194 of every 100,000 women. Further researches carried out define that the percentage of death from heart failures were greater than that of stroke among both sex.

Hence a most in depth analysis was carried out by the Office of National Statistics pointing to the death rates among people of various age categories. They are as follows:

In the year 2002 mortality for people between the age of 15 to 29 resulted from injury and poisoning. That is 0.041 percent for males as compared to 0.01 percent for females based upon a population of 100,000.

Men falling between the ages of 30 to 44 died also as a result of injury and poisoning. That is 0.045 percent based upon a population of 100,000. On the other hand, 0.032 percent of women on a population of 100,000 died due to a critical illness like cancer.

People aged between 45 to 64 suffered mainly from a critical illness, the most dominant being the cancer. 0.245 percent of men upon a population of 100,000 died as compared to 0.218 percent of women over the same population count.

For those people aged between 64 and beyond, the critical illness namely circulatory disease was the main cause of death. People aged 85 or more were more apt to suffer from circulatory diseases along with respiratory diseases and then pass away.

Figures show that at some point in someone’s life he may suffer from a critical illness. When you are young and energetic doesn’t mean that everything is fine. Life is so unpredictable. Anything can happen to you. So why not secure yourself and the ones you love by getting an insurance cover. Whether it is critical illness cover of life cover, you should know that you could be taken care of during your bad days.

Smoking and Atherosclerosis

ป้ายกำกับ: ,

From Terry Martin,

Smoking is Hard on The Heart

Atherosclerosis is a disease in which fatty substances such as cholesterol, cellular waste, calcium and other substances are deposited along the lining of artery walls in a person's body. These sticky, yellowish deposits, known as plaque, build up over time, hindering blood flow.

Also known as hardening of the arteries, atherosclerosis often starts early in life and progresses slowly as a person ages. Atherosclerosis usually affects medium and large arteries in the body. Many scientists believe that damage to the innermost layer of the artery, known as the endothelium is where atherosclerosis begins.

Damage to the endothelium allows plaque to build up along the lining of arterial walls, and as it does, blood flow is contricted and the supply of oxygen to the body is decreased. Plaque can rupture and cause blood clots (thrombus). These blood clots can break away and enter the blood stream, lodging in another part of the body, sometimes completely blocking blood flow (embolus). Fatty embolisms that block blood flow to the heart cause a heart attack. If they block blood flow to the brain, they cause a stroke. If blood flow to the arms and legs is reduced, it can cause difficulty walking and eventually lead to gangrene.

Three proven causes of atherosclerosis are:

Elevated Cholesterol and Triglyceride Levels

Elevated levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood cause damage to the endothelium. Some cholesterol is necessary, and the body usually produces most of what it needs in the liver. The other source of cholesterol comes from animal fat, and is known as LDL or "bad" cholesterol.

While our bodies need LDL cholesterol, too much of it can raise cholesterol levels dangerously and put a person at risk for atherosclerosis / heart attack. Foods that come from animals, i.e. chicken, eggs, dairy products, beef and pork contain cholesterol. Foods from plants do not contain cholesterol.

More on Cholesterol:

High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the result of two forces. One is the pressure created by the heart pumping blood through the circulatory system. The other is the force of the resistance of the arteries as the blood flows through them.

When the heart pumps, it pushes blood through the larger arteries and on into the smaller blood vessels, called arterioles. The arterioles can constrict or expand, and when they do, the resistance of the blood flow is affected. The more difficult it is for the blood to flow, the higher blood pressure will be.

When high blood pressure goes untreated for a long time and the heart is forced to pump harder to get the blood to flow, the result is often an enlarged and weakened heart muscle. And high blood pressure hurts the arteries and arterioles over time as well. They become scarred and hardened, putting a person at risk for atherosclerosis.

More on the Heart and Circulatory System

Tobacco Smoke

Cigarette smoke aggravates both of the above risk factors for atherosclerosis.
    Cholesterol
The toxins in tobacco smoke lower a person's high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL or "good" cholesterol) while raising levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL or "bad" cholesterol).
    Nicotine and Carbon Monoxide
The nicotine and carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke damage the endothelium, which sets the stage for the build-up of plaque.
    High Blood Pressure
While cigarette smoking won't cause high blood pressure, if a smoker has hypertension, smoking can increase the risk of malignant hypertension, a dangerous form of high blood pressure. Smoking is hard on the heart.
More on the Chemicals in Cigarette SmokeSmokers face an increased risk for atherosclerosis, heart attack and stroke.

If you are a smoker and you're thinking about quitting, I have good news for you, and it is this:

It is never too late to quit smoking.

Regardless of your age or how many years you've smoked, research has shown that your body will begin the healing process within 20 minutes of your last cigarette.

Within one year of quitting smoking, coronary artery disease drops to half that of a smoker. Between 5 and 15 years of quitting, coronary disease and stroke risk drops to that of nonsmokers.
